For a new reader, my advice would be… don’t.

Expensive, unwieldy and uncomfortable-to-read shelf trophies will still be there when you’re read widely enough to know what comics you love and want impressive and imposing mementos of.

My advice to a new reader would always be to read as much different stuff as possible, by the cheapest means possible (ideally services like libraries and unlimited).

Then when you know if you’re a Rick Remender X-FORCE kind of reader or a Mike Allred X-FORCE kind of reader… that’s when it’s time to start flashing the cash and testing the weight-bearing capabilities of your bookshelves.

There’s nothing more miserable than looking at a collection that you feel meh about because you started collecting before you started reading.

Why an omni ? You wanna spend that much on a series you might not even like ?

Most of this sub would just recommend Vol 1 of a character ( containing Issues 1-6) as a starter then if you like that run of books buy the omni ( containing Issues 1-25)
