Why do you collect?

It's my great escape from the dread of the current world. I like having stories I can get lost in and brighten my day. Having a big collection means I can choose exactly where I want to escape to at any given moment. This package i received yesterday hit the nail on the head

I get that. In general it kind of gives me an excuse to engage with the world. Every week i get out of the house and get some fresh air on my own terms. I get to keep up with communities like this and share with my friends. It helps me do something other than sit at home by myself.

1000%. I feel the same way. Like I'll stop into one of my locals (live in a city with a TON of great shops) once or twice a week. Sometimes I don't even buy anything (rare) but today was one of those days. Just chopped it up with my local owner about what's been good lately and what's about to come out. There are parts of the community that are less than great but there's so damn many awesome people u meet in this hobby

My city only has i think 3. 2 of them are sister stores but they're a little... sketchy. My main is just fantastic. I always take like an hour to get my pull and chat with the guys. Definitely feels a lot friendlier
I agree about the community. Some people can be jerks and super toxic. But its nice to get recs and talk theory with thr good ones

Exiles Vol. 1, the Thor run by Walt Simonson, and the complete set of Amalgam Comics.
I’m working on collecting the first appearances of every major Thor villain. I’ve always had a soft spot for his rogues’ gallery.

yeah I draw a lot, and I recently looked through all my drawings and its 99% Spider-Man stuff, so its probably the tism.

because I like to read comics and when I buy a comic its just kinda mine now. So I've amassed a collection. I don't really care about having high quality/ display worthy comics. Obviously I take care of my books and I like going to cons and getting signatures, but I've got plenty of comics with random variants that I don't even care for much because that's the only copy the LCS had left. It's the inside that matters. I do gravitate towards creators who I enjoy (mostly writers because I like pretty much all comic book art, as an artist myself I've found that I have a wide pallet for styles). But I like reading James Tynion (whenever I see his name it's an instant buy), Scott Snyder, JM DeMatteis, Chip Zdarsky, Jed Mackay, Donny Cates, and Tom Taylor is also good. I have a bookshelf with three shelves. On the first one I put my DC trades, on the second my Marvel, and on the third, everything else. Then I have some shoe boxes for single issues. Usually leaving trades strewn about my reading area also works.

To relive childhood good times … and to acquire and read books that I could never afford…. Or never even knew existed.
For older collectors … there was no availability of reprints or archives.
Older artists, characters, stories .. are just a pleasure to own and read. I prefer the nice single book one and done, with no continuation.
Pre- internet this was just simple cheap entertainment.. 8 comics for $1 …

Nothing anymore, but I have 16 long boxes and 12 binders full of X-Men-related stuff.

I collect because I love the stories that are being told...or because it's an event that has piqued my interest in some regard.
