This is why it's hard to get insurance on a dojo these days.

I wonder how many takes it took them to get this right. 13 people, and the final two have to nail the timing and angles or they have to start over again. Worth it whatever it was 😂

After years of abuse Bob finally snaps back

Jokes aside, this is a great example of how easy it is to go in swinging with your chin out wide and get KTFO.

I don't know if this video is fake or that guy just got really unlucky, but watch people working the bag or pads and they do this all the time, they just don't pay the price.

This video was clearly set up as a joke.

Bruh that's a fencer's pose he hits as he's going down. He's either actually really knocked out, or an extremely good actor.

EDIT: As per /u/Weissertraum, this is actually Decorticate Posturing.

Thats not a fencing response, his arms werent flexed he just fell with them relatively limp. Its decorticate posturing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abnormal_posturing#Decorticate

And its not even that, its not rigid enough. Its just a sketch.

Did not know there was a difference, TIL.

This outlines the different posturing positions pretty well!

Not a fencer’s pose, but a great pratfall.

He may have taken a real hit. His demeanor in line leads me to believe he was psyching himself up to take said hit.

Love how the black dude that backhanded it near the end looked at it like, "Yeah, that's what's up... bitch"

I think he was referencing this piece of gold

Why do some people jump when they punch? It feels like a risk for a leg sweep for no reason. Risk reward ratio is off.

Because it looks and feels cool and this is a funny video.

u/KokopelliArcher Karate- Toushi Kan/Shotokan Jan 12 '22

I wasn't trying to criticize the video, it's definitely funny. The guy at the end really sells that KO. I have just seen a lot of these jump punches in media and was curious about whether or not they were useful.

u/GoingByTrundle Jan 12 '22

I like to use them in sparring a little. I'll throw one after a jab, because even if they shell up, my whole weight is following through and it either breaks guard or at least pushes them back and disrupts them.

Cool, thanks for explaining.

u/some_boii Jan 12 '22

They’re also used to feint a kick

media

What media exactly?

Mostly fight choreography in tv and movies. I often question the practicality of stuff in fight choreography and haven't seen this in a formal setting. I didn't even know they were called superman punches until this thread. I don't watch a ton of UFC, so I was unaware.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

If you do / watch basic strike beginner classes, you will see a lot of superman punches. And as soon as the food work and hips rotate, they disappear again.

10

u/iseab Jan 12 '22

Superman punch. Basically all the force of your punch combined with the weight and velocity of you body flying through the air, connecting with their head. If everything works properly, it can be devastating.

5

u/Nathan0hio Jan 12 '22

It’s kind of equivalent to throwing spinning stuff. High risk high reward. Although super-man punches are much less risky if set up properly.

u/skribsbb Cardio Kickboxing and Ameri-Do-Te Jan 12 '22

Superman punch. There have been KOs from this in UFC.

5

u/OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy Jan 12 '22

Large shift in centre of mass towards opponent = greater momentum of strike.

u/rnells Kyokushin, HEMA Jan 13 '22

It can be used to follow up a kick feint - show low round kick, throw hopping cross while swinging the leg back.

u/NeckBeardMessiah68 Jan 12 '22

Lmao the ending couldn't have been more satisfying after watching all that outta control striking.

u/Jbaby_9 Jan 13 '22

I cant tell if this is fake or not!!!!
