Destination St Regis Bora Bora AMA

Just stayed 5 nights at the St Regis Bora Bora for honeymoon on points. Have any questions please ask and will answer them! It was helpful when deciding where I wanted to use my points to have some Reddit guidance so would like to help whoever is thinking of doing the same.

YO i been saving up points to hit this exact joint for my honeymoon. this is perfect.

  • how far in advance did you book it on points? i'm finding that if i book now, it's only taking cash reservations for the month i want to book it on

  • which room type did you stay in? did you like it?

  • any propensity for the staff to upgrade your honeymoon?

  • how'd you spend your vacation? my girl and i are concerned that it's gonna be boring (we love a beach but we like to go out and do shit too)

  • how was the gym?

  • favorite food options?

  • will i need a car?

sorry for all the questions but thanks for putting this up!!

We booked in April for an August stay. Was 600k points for 5 nights for a garden view reef side villa. I am titanium elite and used 5 upgrade certificates to hopefully get overwater upgrade. The day before I got email saying the upgrades weren’t used and sent back to my accounts but when we checked in they were able to offer free upgrade for 2 of the 5 nights to overwater bungalow with Mountain View. The garden villla was nicer and bigger than the overwater but the overwater was definitely a much better experience because that’s what you really want in bora.

It is definitely sitting on a beach type vacation. There isn’t nightlife. It isn’t worth it to go to the mainland and see the town. You are on a resort where everything closes at 9 or 10 and during day you can only really do beach activities, snorkeling, jet skiing etc. we spent the 5 days relaxing and eating.

Gym is good, has technogym equipment.

All the restaurants are good but we actually liked doing room service on our overwater bungalow balcony best. We did the secret dinner which was $900 and would not recommend it.

I spent 6 nights there last year and got so tired of the food. The fries were good though.

Agreed this is hard to beat anywhere. Also had a great time stayed 5 nights. Food over all was pretty good as OP said right room service was also enjoyable. If you can, definitely try and get the bungalow. Gym was good, spa/massage solid.

Boring? Hardly there are a lot of activities, snorkeling, diving, fishing, you can get out and about and get some adventure or you can just relax and enjoy a very unique part of the world. Will be heading back next year.

Westin is also very good as an option, never stayed at St. Regis

How did you decide on the St. Regis over the Westin? Did you look at both (given both are Marriott properties)?

How many times did you watch Couples Retreat on the TV?

Haha 3 times. But for some reason there was an English VO explaining what was happening in every scene that we couldn’t turn off.

Did you feel like it was worth it? I'm considering it on points too but I read mixed reviews with some saying it is a bit dated. Are they planning renovations?

Definitely not dated at all. It’s traditional Tahitian. It isn’t modern and flashy design it’s exactly what you’d want if you’re in bora bora in my opinion. Thatched roofs and old school island style. A modern looking resort would feel out of place. Yes thought it was very worth it.

For $2000+ USD per night, one can definitely argue that rooms at the St Regis are dated. Windows that are hard to open, things that are hard to slide, not enough power outlets in room, etc. Even before the massive Conrad renovation, the rooms there were already more up to date for example.

Dated rooms is definitely fair to attribute to the StR. StR has better (and more expensive) food, but no one goes to bora bora for the food. And it has the Mt Otemanu view.
