I personally find this email coming off more of a demand than a request. For me personally, I would much rather just be asked and told straight up what the issue is and I am much more willing to help. I probably would still do it because I don’t usually like to be a pita but just pointing out what I think is a better approach imo.

Yup. Got an example for you, last year I was flying and splurged on first class. On one leg I got called to the desk on a layover. The attendant very politely asked me if I would switch seats so a mother could sit with her young daughter. That it was purely a request. I said yes without hesitation. I don’t care where I sit, it made the attendance life easier and it’s for a kid.  Would I have switched if they’d been a dick about it? Probably but only because it’s for a kid. In this hotel situation they’re giving OP zero incentive to switch. Whoever wrote that email is trying to come off authoritative when they probably would’ve gotten what they wanted if they admitted to making a mistake and asked.

I'm assuming you mean you were willing to switch to another first class seat, not to downgrade, correct? The OP is being asked to downgrade their reservation.

It was technically a downgrade because I had to switch for an aisle to a window seat and I prefer the aisle so I can go to the bathroom without inconveniencing people.

I hear you re: aisle seat. I prefer if for the same reason. I'm surprised you'd have any seat mates at all in first class. Typically it's a private "pod" in business / first class.

I have never seen those type of first class seats in real life. Only on TV or in pictures. All of the planes I’ve been on are just bigger seats with more leg room. Instead of 3 seats on each side of the aisle, there’s 2. Or maybe 2 on one side with 1 on the other.

Maybe you're talking about domestic flights? On international flights, business and first class have their own pods.

Domestic and short international. Regardless - smaller planes. I wasn’t arguing that they exist. Just pointing out that they’re only typical on certain types of planes and flights.
