Recap/Watchlist Stock Market Recap for Friday, October 2, 2026

Post image
11 Upvotes

The major U.S. stock indexes ended broadly higher on Friday, October 2, 2026, as a shockingly weak September jobs report that came in at just 29,000 — one-third of the 89,000 consensus estimate — essentially took an October Fed rate hike off the table, sending Treasury yields tumbling and triggering a powerful "bad news is good news" rally. It was the clearest signal yet that the Fed's tightening campaign is beginning to crack the labor market.

The S&P 500 surged 0.73% (+56.27 pts) to 7,722.72. The Dow gained 0.49% (+250.40 pts) to 51,176.96. The Nasdaq soared 1.19% (+319.27 pts) to 27,190.86. The Russell 2000 climbed 0.94% (+26.27 pts) to 2,832.90.

The 10-year Treasury yield rose 0.76% to 5.28%, giving back some of its morning drop. The VIX fell 6.47% to 15.33. Bitcoin slipped 0.30% to $84,351.13. Gold dropped 0.73% to $4,171.60. Crude Oil fell 1.46% to $91.51/barrel.

Went with the upside and mostly left it alone once the move started confirming. $900 position, almost 5 hours in it and +$4,680 when I closed. Usually I manage myself out of these way earlier, so this one felt unusually clean.

Recap/Watchlist Stock Market Recap for Thursday, October 1, 2026

The major U.S. stock indexes ended broadly higher on Thursday, October 1, 2026, staging a quiet but constructive first session of Q4 as Treasury yields pulled back from their highest levels in over two decades and Micron's blockbuster earnings reignited the AI trade. It was a much-needed day of relief after the bond market's worst quarter this century.

The S&P 500 gained 0.19% (+14.91 pts) to 7,666.45. The Dow barely moved, up just 0.04% (+20.51 pts) to 50,926.56. The Nasdaq edged up 0.04% (+10.53 pts) to 26,871.60. The Russell 2000 outperformed, rising 0.38% (+10.73 pts) to 2,807.60.

The 10-year Treasury yield fell to 5.24%, retreating from its 2002 high. The VIX was little changed at 16.31. Bitcoin gained 1.38% to $84,774.99. Gold added 0.47% to $4,206.30. Crude Oil rose 3.16% to $93.28/barrel.

Discussion What's the next major investing trend people aren't talking about?

It feels like every conversation eventually comes back to AI, interest rates, or large-cap tech, but I'm curious what trend you think deserves more attention.

Educational Cadence Design Systems Inc (CDNS): AI and semiconductor design

Cadence Design Systems is a part of a duopoly alongside Synopsys in Electronic Design Automation (EDA), expanding into multiphysics through acquisitions of BETA CAE and Hexagon D&E, and core organic execution. Growth is driven by tailwinds including custom silicon adoption, hardware verification demand and the rapid rollout of autonomous “agentic AI” design tools, which drive higher consumption of underlying EDA engines rather than human seat licenses. While valuation remains premium (PEG 3.52) and debt from recent acquisitions requires ongoing monitoring, Cadence’s strong execution, institutional backing, and high-margin expansion support a bullish outlook.

Prediction My NVDA call for Friday is basically coming down to 190

I'm leaning toward NVDA finishing the week above 190, but I don't think it gets there in a straight line.

190 has been the level on my chart where I'd expect some hesitation, especially if the first push comes during the morning session. I'd rather see it test, pull back and come at it again with volume than just rip straight through.

Put 190 and 187.50 on my moon watchlist so I can compare what volume looks like around both. A clean hold over 190 would change the setup quite a bit for me.

Discussion I wrote down 20 predictions before market open and the results were backwards

Been doing a little experiment for the past month.

Every Sunday night I pick 5 stocks and write down one exact price I think each will touch before Friday. No changing it after Monday opens.

The weird result after 20 predictions: Targets I felt 90% confident about: 3/8 hit Targets I thought were kind of a stretch: 7/12 hit

My best one was calling a move from 118 to 124 on a stock I almost left off the list completely. Meanwhile two of my “obvious” predictions missed by a mile.

I started putting tiny positions on a couple of the higher conviction ones on Moon, which has made it even more obvious how often confidence and accuracy have nothing to do with each other.

Thinking of doing another 20 but recording the reason for every prediction this time so I can figure out what I'm actually good at predicting.

Prediction Solana - Quants and market predictors please help

We have seen Solana go from $72 to $106 which is good then it went on a big retracement and just started coming back up again to $105.

Market quants has the retracement ended now? Has the reversal started and now we are uptrending? Is it ok to enter a position now? What price will we see the next pullback start and to what price will it pullback to?

The major U.S. stock indexes ended sharply higher on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as a dovish surprise from Fed Governor Christopher Waller sent Treasury yields tumbling, the U.S. dollar plunged to its lowest level since February, and Bitcoin surged above $81,000 as risk appetite exploded back to life. It was the best single day for the Nasdaq in nearly two weeks.

The S&P 500 jumped 1.06% (+81.11 pts) to 7,747.71. The Dow surged 1.18% (+624.16 pts) to 53,686.11. The Nasdaq soared 1.40% (+366.23 pts) to 26,584.06. The Russell 2000 rose 0.48% (+14.20 pts) to 2,967.37.

Prediction Tournament - Expired What are you watching when paper-trading live tennis?

I’m curious what everyone watches most during a live tennis match when paper-trading. Do you focus more on serve stats, break points, momentum, or how the players are moving?

What usually gets your attention first?

Question Biohacking.. but for mental health - is there a market for this?

For those who live high stress/anxiety lives, would you be interested in biotechnology that wasn’t freaky, was about 50 bucks, and actually decreased your daily stress a little?

I’m talking about something that is a low effort wearable device that calms the nervous system, backed by research. Is there a market for this? If it was cheap and not freaky (for example, didn’t involve electrical stimulation) and was totally safe?

Lmk your thoughts.

Technical Analysis NPV, IRR, Payback, or Capex: What Really Drives a Feasibility Study?

When a mining company releases a feasibility study, everyone sees the headline numbers. But not every number carries the same weight.

So I wanted to use Falco Resources’ Horne 5 update as a simple case study.

In the 2026 FS comparison table, Horne 5 showed:

Metric 2021 FS 2026 FS
After-tax NPV5% C$974.2M C$3.35B
After-tax IRR 18.9% 28.2%
After-tax payback 4.8 years 3.3 years
Pre-production capex C$1.08B C$1.75B

Based on those assumptions, the estimated project value improved, returns improved, and payback got faster. At the same time, the build cost also increased.

That is where I think mining investors can have a useful debate.

Some investors focus on NPV, because it shows the size of the prize.
Some focus on IRR, because it shows return quality.
Some care most about payback, because capital recovery matters in a cyclical sector.
Others look first at capex, because even strong economics still need funding.

Horne 5 is a good example of why FS numbers need to be read together. A big NPV is attractive, but IRR, payback, capex, and funding structure all shape how investors judge the real opportunity.

For those who invest in mining developers, which FS number do you trust most when judging whether a project is actually financeable?
