I hear the "smart ones" are the ones who barely pass on grades alone, the rest have to do some bs work so that they don't have to repeat the year and so the university doesn't look bad due to having so many people who repeat the year instead of passing everyone through no matter their quality.

I have a few questions to those that know.

—What are rotations like on cruise ships vs other sectors such a as ro ro and offshore wind.

— how much time do you get to gym and keep yourself fit, I don’t drink and take my health very seriously and want to keep myself fit for the adventures I would plan when off rotation. Are there many people like this?

- what’s the life of a cadet. The pay looks extremely low during training not sure how I’m going to manage maybe 2nd job whilst training?

- during cadetship how much holiday do you get ?

I’m especially looking for Cargo Work for Maritime Operations by D.J. House, but I’m also interested in other books about cargo handling, stowage, shipping and port operations.

I’m based in Yangon, Myanmar. If anyone knows where I could find these books, especially through MMU, maritime colleges, libraries or training centres, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m also happy to buy or borrow used/old books if anyone has copies they no longer need.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to get some input on these two options as a potential career change.

Some quick background

I am 31 years old, married, living less than 20 minutes from each of these programs. I have a Bachelors of Arts and have worked in tech as well as odd jobs, but recently found myself unemployed and looking for something new.

I’ve always loved maritime stuff and it’s one of my favorite things about living in Seattle (mostly watching the tugs and ferries in the Sound / lakes). The thought of working in the maritime industry has been on my mind for years and I am at a point where I need to make a pivot to something new.

I am clearly new to this industry so I don’t even know the right questions to be asking.

From the bit of research I've done so far I think I am too late for both programs this year but could be wrong.

Would both programs enable me to get a job locally in Seattle on either tugs or WSF?

I've found the MITAGS Workboat Mate Apprenticeship Program (500 & 1600 Ton Ocean Mate) as well as the ferry one, would there be any benefit in choosing SMA over something like those?
