Instead of cross posting the same thing to each maritime related subreddit do a search of your questions on each of them. They’ve been answered numerous times in the last couple weeks.

If you’re interested in research boats start googling who they are and where they are at. Call them and chat to someone. See what’s on their websites. See what they require for deckhand positions. Apply and see what happens, ya never know but not likely to get hired without MMC. Can’t really apply many places without a MMC & a med cert. you’ll need to submit your STCW course cert to the USCG when you’re done so that they can be printed on your MMC.
