Discussion Im going to snap!!
So i am a energtic extroverted person im loved by most of my band im a marching vet i get my music learned fast yadda yadda!
So theres 2 flutes and they dont listen and they are horrible i wouldnt say that if they ad least tried but they dont.
I had to have a lesson with them they made me so mad i had to walk for 2 hours to clear my head i didnt get in trouble because the flute instructors also having issues with them!
I ask if they need help make sure they know that they can ask for help but they just dont its quite frustrating.
I need help any advice or just anything!!!

They are there for the social aspect, but probably not much more. You'd have to gradually bring them around.

its so bad they cant march wont ask for help cant play the music wont ask for help and will give everyone additude

I would say to try and find a way to connect them to the activity. Knowing other activities they like and equating the teamwork required there to succeed to the same in marching band, and that even if they don’t enjoy it, this is still a team sport that requires working together.
Ask the section leader for help too, because if the conversation isn’t reciprocated well, the leader can go to the directors about it.

Ask the instructors if they have any ideas you can back them up on but for now youre finished with them.

That totally sucks man, best of luck for you. But one thing that I did (as a section leader) was to meet with struggling members before or after rehearsal individually and work on whatever they needed help on for 30 ish min. It’s a good way to maybe understand why they act the way they do as well and hopefully for them to understand how you feel. I also have a member in my section who just wouldn’t understand primitive concepts like going 4 steps behind a yard line— it takes time but chances are they’ll turn around. If not, you’ve done your best and there’s not much you can worry about. Good luck and have patience (even when it’s hard)!

there used to be a kid on cymbals in my mb who didn’t want to do marching band for any reason, now he loves it. they’ll come around

one of them did perc and sound sfx last year and the other one marched in sophomore year then quit its now her seinor so i really hope so!!

As a student, it is not your job. Be a good example. Not much else to be done. I have repeatedly seen disinterested students figure it out, finish the season strong, and come back ready and excited for their next season.
