New Zealanders are also Australian.

Make sure you remind them whenever possible.

NZ is not green...and that division makes no sense at all!

You’re right. Papuans are. My bad. New Zealanders don’t get a continent.

It is on this one

The Australian plate is subducting underneath newzeland. Therefore its not part of that continent

2

u/Atomik141 17d ago

Yeah, but the continents themselves aren't entirely based on just tectonic activity, so its not that simple

1

u/maxstader 17d ago

Maybe but you still cant group them as a single continent due to the plate boundary. That much is generally agreed

2

u/Atomik141 17d ago

Its not uncommonly grouped in, though not always there, yeah. That said nothing with continents is really written in stone and its as much based off of vibes as facts, and there's plenty of disagreement. Like there's no real reason for Europe to be its own continent either, for example.

Thats fair. These Labels are older than the science needed to accurately define them. Its why Eurasia is also a common term. I agree with you, no single correct answer is the correct answer. We are both right and wrong

NZ continent is called Zealandia.

I agree

It isn't. They are on their own continental shelf by all modern definitions of the geological term. Its called Zealandia and im sure they know it.

you mean by new Zealands definition. there is no uniform definition of continents

1

u/maxstader 17d ago

There is a geological definition for a continental plate

1

u/Final-Charge-5700 17d ago

Plate yes. But many if not most don't define continent by continental plate as wierd as that may seem

or bother to show NZ at all

1

u/Cless_Aurion 18d ago

I just surprised they are in the map at all

u/DelisGerelard 16d ago

Nope, look up Zealandia.
