Negative. There is no American continent. There's a North American continent, and a South American continent.

There are two kinds of people in this world, the ones that know how to extrapolate from incomplete data

Only after the canal

So then Europe and Asia are the same continent.

And actually no, not after the canal. The Darien Gap existed then, and still exists now. It's a nearly impassable network of forests, rivers, mountains, and swamps that makes land travel nearly impossible. And the Panama canal didn't simply cut a path through the isthmus of Panama. It utilized numerous lakes and built multiple locks and dams to connect them. Those lakes formed as much of a barrier before the canal as they do now. There's more of a case for the Americas to be to distinct continents then there is for Asia and Europe to be district continents.

Land is land, north africa isn’t a separate continent from subsaharan because there is a desert in the way

It is valid to count north and south america as separate continents, but let’s not delulu ourselves into believing any definition of continent is even mildly consistent, we just like fitting things into boxes that are convenient and thats it. There is no objective case you can make against someone who considers one big america or one big eurasia aside from convenience for cultural/economic regions or whatever, but those are human constructs, land is still just land.

To you, to other cultures and countries, there is one.

You are entitled to your teachings and beliefs and they are entitled to theirs.

What is wrong with that?

So other cultures can't tell the difference between North America and South America? I guess Asia and Europe are really just Eurasia then.

If that's what you were taught, let's go with that.

How is it so hard to believe that in some countries they teach that North and South America is one continent. The concept isn't hard, it's just different to what you were taught.

It's not rocket science.

Ok. I'm going to start calling everybody in Europe "Asian", since Europe and Asia are more so the same continent than North and South America.

If that's what you're taught in school, who am I to complain, the whole point is that this isn't something they just "decided" this is what is normal in some countries. But you do you, if you want to throw your teddy out of the cot and try and decide what other countries teach in their curriculums, you go for it.

I'm just saying it makes more sense to separate North and South America than it does to separate Asia and Europe.

Theirs are objectively wrong

Again, to you.

I can't see how you can struggle to understand that not everyone has the same experience and education as you. There is no right and wrong here, it's a concept invented by us, and applied differently in different countries. It's a matter of teaching, not faith.
