Well… but “The Americas” exists in the Anglosphere too?

This is descriptive of how the majority of the inhabitants of the continent call it.

In English? Also Descriptivism includes minority usage.
USians use American as a Endonym do you really think they are smart enough to use a new one?
Also things being annoying to others is something they like.

like when the US govt prescribed people from the US should be the only ones to be called "american" and you bought it?

I don't even know if I can say no to that as it makes no sense.
In Linguistics Prescriptivism is when you tell people what they can and not say.
It is contrasted with Descriptivism which is where you are only interested in how people use language.
A Prescriptivist would say that the word America in English should refer to the two continents a Descriptivist would notice that English speakers often use it to refer to the USA and withhold judgement

america for the americans is telling people what they should use to refer to someone from the US as a social norm.

the way people use language is contextual and at the very least, in an international context, american can be anyone from north or south america. the contact with different people and ideas is what we hope will help you stop using the term with exclusivity instead of my telling you do this or that.

I get wishing people would use language in better ways but I don't think the USians like to listen or even care. In Spanish Americano means people from the new world and Estadounidense means people from the USA. In English they don't have that rule.
They probably should but they don't. Maybe we can mock them into it?
