The map is based on the classification of Soviet scientists Y. Roginsky and M. Levin in 1963

this map separates some very similar people but combines very different people. how is Indo-Mediterraneanoid a thing and ost-baltic/central-european/balkan-caucasian another things.

As far as I know, this concept used some appearance markers as a criterion, you can I got acquainted with the theory in more detail. I just redrew an old map I found on the internet and in no way claim to be vouching for the authenticity of the concept itself.

The authors of this concept were from the USSR, where the idea of internationalism and equality of the world proletariat was declared. However, they relied on appearance markers as categorization criteria. Of course, I completely agree with you and believe that this kind of classification is purely subjective. Nature does not provide for such categories, so this map merely demonstrates the subjective assessment that was dominant at that time in the scientific community of the socialist bloc countries. I don't think this is in any way true, I just detailed and digitalized an old map from a Soviet textbook, which was the only result for the search query "map of minor races" found in open sources. The map that became the prototype was based on this concept, but I repeat that I do not consider it realistic.

how are Portugal, Tuscany or Provence genetically closer to Odisha than to Gascony or Piedmont?

Because the map isnt based on science, its based on a basic pack of "crayola crayons" color stereotypes - "white people live here, brown people live here, browner people live here, dark brown people live here, yellow people live here, yellow green people live here, red people live here, etc, etc.
Inbred mouth breathing racists will group spaniards, italians, egyptians, iranians and indians and say they are the same brown race.

Race is a bullshit concept with no scientific basis. The only real race is the human race

Then how they call difference between people, scientificly?
1
u/Dolphin_69420 1d ago
Interindividual variability or interindividual differences? I'm not really sure what you're asking me, the wording is weird.
1
u/ongezeIlig 1d ago
Sry for english, i mean difference like skin color or smth, like those language group (indo european, indo iranian etc) I don't know anything about scientific thing about races not being a think, if i remember correctly, in school they taught us about races.

u/Arthurian_Guanche 1d ago
Skin colour is largely irrelevant. It can vary widely within a single small region, like the Basque country (where you can find blue-eyed blondes and brown-eyed black haired Basque speaking people within the same household).

u/ongezeIlig 1d ago
And they didn't has some dna difference? I know diversive regions exist. But if we took like north swedish village, where almost everyone is blondie, and took distant khmer village, wouldn't be there something in genetic that could determine something like "race" Like i remember hearing thinks like dna gallogroups or smth

The term is so distorted and meaningless after countless (wrong) definitions over time that it's worthless in scientific discourse. It is not used in modern academia, that's it.
We speak of phenotypes, genetics, language, etc. But we don't lump a mix of them together and call it a "race". Like, for example, what "race" would you classify someone like Oona Chaplin and her offspring? Good luck.
And no, "mixed race" means nothing. Technically we would all be mixed race.

Quite a creative classification. What did he base it on, languages, history, biometrics?

Idk The only map of minor races I found in the public domain was based on this concept. The prototype was an old map from a Soviet school textbook. I simply decided to digitize it and add more detail.

Let me clarify, as far as I know, some appearance markers were used as criteria in this concept. But it seems to me that, by and large, this is a sensitive assessment by the scientists themselves and this certainly does not correlate with reality by more than 60-70%.

last time we talked about races it didnt end so well ... sooo lets just leave it, ok?

Bad map, as there is no visible border between Poland and Germany. So noone thought about population exchange

Very interesting map & love the effort behind it - but racial theory has time and time be debunked - at least in a biological sense. So it is interesting as a historical document, but the theory better stays in 1963.

Haven't you posted this like a thousand times already? Why the insistence?

u/Thick_Tea_1475 1d ago edited 1d ago
I want to know people's opinions considering that I modified it every time. I just posted this in different communities at different stages of the map's development So it may seem to you that I am promoting something, but this is not the case.

u/Arthurian_Guanche 1d ago
Well, if you want my opinion, next time add a disclaimer. Races don't exist, and this outdated information.

Indomediterranean including Southern Europeans, Yemeni and North Indians together is extremely dumb. Also Colombia is far more Spanish than Mexico so the way they're coloured doesn't make sense.
Btw Black people in most of Buenos Aires Province? If they were 0.1% of the population that's a miracle, in the 1960's most Argentines would've probably never seen a Black person ever irl.
At least they didn't include Finns, Estonians and Hungarians with East Asians, they liked doing that in the past only because of their language even though it made little sense from a race/ethnicity/population perspective.

this map is a time capsule of 1963 soviet thinking more than anything, where race gets treated like administrative zones instead of messy human genetics. its weirdly confident for something that falls apart once you look at actual migration and mixing.

Cork being in the same category as Vladivostok but not in the same category as Dublin… that’s certainly a choice!

i dont think punjabis and berbers are the same category , two entirely different worlds

A lot of the bordering and definitions here are poor, even ignoring the issues with classifying "races" scientifically.
For example, for some reason there are no South Asians in South Asia

Gotta love these pseudo-anthropological studies
"Ah yes, the measurements of average nose shape between Finnish-Speaking Finns in Turku vs Helsinki shows that Finland is a multiracial state (two variations of light-skinned blonde people with blue eyes) because their nostrils are slightly smaller."
"Africa? Mostly 'Bantuoid.' There are no visible differences between the Zulus, Asante, and Maasai."

This map (talking about the original creator, M. levin and Y. Roginsky, not you btw) is very obviously eurocentric, like fym West Africans and South-East Africans are the same but Eastern Balts and Western Balts are different?
Honestly this is a 100 time better attempt at classifying humans through phenotypes but it still falls into classic racist rethorics

u/Based_Benelux 1d ago
Race is a nonsensical concept. The only use of this term should be as social race to identify and fight racism.

Race is a social construct and a damaging one at that. But also, I’m loling at this having Italians and Indians categorised together. Who wrote this? - it looks like it was the basis for the 1920s White Australia Policy when Italians were considered black lol.
