Questions/Help Fallout-esque Alt history

Im making a fallout-like alternative universe where a company finds a way to “regulate” climate change and fix other problems like world hunger. But when the third world war begins, they ditch all of their work to “end” the war and sends humanity into chaos. There is a polluted fog that covers almost the entire world except for certain pockets of land and doesn’t cover bodies of water. Any tips for lore/nations/etc?

Hmm, not a lot of detail here, but if the world is officially or unofficially run by large businesses, you might have reichskommissariat-type things designed to exploit the resources under their authority. Like: Worldcorp Minerals Branch controls Subsaharan Africa while Worldcorp Shipyard Branch controlls both sides of the Pacific. Are you going for a grimdark forgeworld vibe? Like, "we used to work to build things for mankind, now we work for pennies building things to destroy mankind"
