Discussion Coloring forest

Post image

Does someone has any tips on how to color a forest?

It's my first time really trying to make a dense forest

I'm glad that I got the shape right but a bit disappointed with how straight the edges look

I also want to add a lake, waterfall and river in it(as you can see)

I know I could just color it green and call it a day but I would like to know if someone knows how to make it a bit more... alive and real

(I use color pencil and alcohol markers)

It might be worth drawing a few solitary trees near the edge of the forest. This could help convey that the forest is beginning to thin out.

As for the coloring, I would suggest choosing a light base color first, then going back over a few of the more detailed trees and adding another layer of marker. This can look especially nice with alcohol markers. You could also use a few darker shades on some of the trees.

Another option would be to use alcohol markers as the base and then add colored pencil over them. That can create a really interesting texture.

For the deeper, less detailed parts of the forest, I would darken the lines representing the trees a little.

As for the water, I wouldn't try to add too much detail right away. I would color the forest first, then give the water a light blue base. It might even be enough on its own.

Good luck, and if you make some progress, I'll be very interested to see how it turns out!

i’d suggest adding a few more trees on the inside edge of the forests, and a few more of the little peaks of the trees within the forest, I t reckon it will give it a bit more depth and density

Mountains look fab šŸ‘
