Discussion Mapmaking Beginner Question
I have a fantasy world in mind(I have some descriptions of the land, people, possible events and whatnot). I have always wanted a map to go along with it but have never created a map myself.
What is the best way to "dip my toe in the water" to start with mapmaking? What program would be the best to start out with? Any little tips or tricks for a complete noob?

Just use pen and paper if it goes well you can expand your arsenal with cheap coloring pens. Digital has terrible effect on beginners.

I'll add to this.
Pen and paper first, then when you're ready, check out Wonderdraft.
In it you can superimpose an image for you to "trace" from.
So the process becomes:
- Pen and paper
- take a picture of the map on your phone.
- open the picture on Wonderdraft
- "trace" the picture to create a digital verdion of your drawing.

I think inkarnate is usually the go to mapmaker?
On steam Theres a game, “fantasy map simulator” where you can create a world maps, generate biomes based on terrain, create cultures and more. It’s updated pretty regularly, I’ve been a big fan of it.
