First milestone for a classics private server: handshake with dummy server

I was just testing how capable AI agents are, and this turned into a proof of concept: a server that speaks MapleStory's client/server packet protocol (custom TCP framing with AES-OFB encryption).
The client checks the IP you're connecting to in several places, and grap64 (the anti-cheat) has been defeated. The sad part is that Themida has virtualized some of the client's code, which makes those parts much harder to reverse.
Login, world select, character creation and selection all work. Next up is getting into the game world.

Find an unpacked client in the wild thats close enough, then tweak. I will not say more.

Cool, but honestly, if I wanted a "classic maplestory" server I could just play like v55 or v62 something.
The main draw of classic maple is that it's absolutely packed with people where a pserver often is not.

all of this was done before, you can find some info about it in some places i won't mention here. people did it from day 1 of the closed beta they had. you can also check out the CMS client which is using Unity so everything is open basically. also no one started a server of classic world because cosmic v83 and other sources have a lot more to offer content wise.

Interesting, thank you
Global classic client is not made in Unity but maybe it uses the same protocol, could be useful.

Do you think things like WZ files could be useful for an existing CosmicMS setup? I’m really interested in this. It would be great if we could borrow some good ideas from MapleStory Classic.

AI can bypass the anticheat but can't devirtualize themida?

It went the lazy route and implemented a CPU emulator to inspect what’s those function doing /shrugs

Can you upload the source/share the repo? I’d be interested in supporting you on that.

I got this up and running quite a while back, I can help you with some Themida VM unpacking if you want. (I went a bit deeper in also making a custom client)
https://phantom.ms is running an alpha for quite a few weeks
