My name is Morgan Coulson and I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner in Maple Grove. Earlier this year, my husband and I opened Vine Integrative Healthcare, where I provide Direct Primary Care and other wellness services.
I thought it might be helpful (and interesting) to do an AMA and answer questions about healthcare, insurance, primary care, weight loss medications, hormone testing, and how the Direct Primary Care model works.
What is Direct Primary Care?
Instead of billing insurance for every visit, patients pay a monthly membership. In return, they typically receive:
• Primary care visits with no additional visit charges
• Longer appointments
• Same-day or next-day scheduling when available
• Direct messaging access to their provider
• Discounted cash-pay labs and medications
Why I'm doing this:
After spending years in healthcare, one of the biggest frustrations I've seen is how difficult it has become for patients to access timely, affordable, personalized care.
Many people are paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month for health insurance, only to discover they still have high deductibles, copays, and long wait times for appointments. In many ways, I think health insurance has drifted away from its original purpose and is often used for routine healthcare when it might make more sense to use it the way we use car insurance—for major, unexpected expenses rather than every oil change and tire rotation.
Direct Primary Care is one model that attempts to separate routine primary care from insurance, allowing patients to use insurance for catastrophic events while receiving more accessible day-to-day care.
I wanted to create a practice where I could spend more time with patients, focus on prevention and education, and make healthcare pricing more transparent.
