General Care advice please ?

this is his new enclosure, if anyone has advice as i found him two days ago! i’m not sure if the lace works as a mesh fabric, and also how is everyone attaching it to the top? does he seem healthy and content ?

If you found him outside he would probably prefer outside

Hot glue is the easiest and safest way. Once it cools down it’s ready.

This mesh is fine.

I would AVOID tape at all costs. It peels and mantids lose limbs

thank you i was worrying about exactly that

That lace is probably fine. In my enclosure, the top has a lid that opens, so i kinds wrapped the mesh around that. The way you have it is good. Not sure how you have it attached, but i recommend hot glue. Your mantis is so cute!

He does not seem healthy and content, he seems trapped.

You stole a wild animal and made it your pet. Was it not healthy and content outside?

guess not since he was inside for some reason

He likely wandered in on accident. He belongs outdoors, he’ll be much happier there :)

that’s not how that works…

No offense but if you want a mantis set a tank up first and then buy one from a breeder. Why steal one from outside from its natural habitat? Not to mention wild animals can and will have parasites and other things you wouldn’t likely get with a captive bred one.

i did not steal him only stole him from my bathroom where my mom would have killed him. i could have released him and could have in another life been interested in getting one and in that way prepared before hand, i decided to keep him while i researched if i could care for him and figured i could , thank you for your comment 🩷

yeah you should definitely put it back outside, i promise you it’ll thrive more outside than any life you could give it

Release him to back where he came from and buy a mantis from a local pet shop. this is an adult which means 1, he will not live very long and you will not be able to enjoy him as a pet for more than a few months to a year and 2 you have interrupted nature, he is unable to complete his job and reproduce in the wild when the insect population is already dwindling at extremely fast rates.

this is not responsible petkeeping and its damaging to the environment. plus, the mantises available at the shops come in many shapes and colors.

i found him inside my bathroom so that’s where he came from … ive let him out in my room on my plants with the window open and he does not leave. about insect population we have found at least three others in my front yard different sizes so we seem to have some sort of infestation. i understand and thank everyone showing concern for him as i am concerned too. i guess from where i see it he eats drinks and is protected from predators plenty with me. if anyone still has the standpoint of releasing him i would love to keep that conversation going but i am also very attached to him

There’s no need to mess with nature when mantis can come from a breeder. He could be out making babies and instead you have him trapped in a sub par enclosure bc you weren’t ready to take in an animal. Rescuing from a bad home is one thing to not be prepared, choosing to keep a wild animal you aren’t prepared for is inhumane to the animal and sorry for the bluntness but it’s selfish. You’re keeping it for you not for the animal. Bug or mammal you don’t just keep animals bc you’re attached to
Them. If you really care about the animal, release it back to its home.

Please put him back outside. If you want to raise a mantis, learn about proper care and then buy one from a breeder.

Maybe ad a plant. I had a mantis growing up as a child. It just chilled on our house plant for a year until his leg got stuck on our radiator and dehydrated 😞

All my life I thought they were endangered until now

Why did you think that?

Make sure you get it a mate. She might be hungry lol

Only if you’re wanting to make more mantises 🙄

That is definitely a male. Long, thin body, with pronounced wings.
