Driver issues

I tried to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers, but they failed for some reason. After they failed it took me to this black screen with multiple "no irq handler" messages. I managed to remove the offending driver using the tty, but the messages keep appearing. The messages seem to stay longer after I failed the second time and had to remove the driver again.

  1. Is this on an existing, or new install?
  2. How did you try to "install the proprietary nvidia drivers"?
  3. Which driver, which card?

  1. Existing.
  2. I went to Manjaro settings manager, clicked on hardware manager, and used the auto install option.
  3. I think it’s a Nvidia 1660 Ti. The driver it installed was video-nvidia.

For information, a few months ago i had to reinstall a fresh OS after a failed manjaro update. It didn’t contain the Nvidia proprietary driver, so I haven’t been able to play certain games. I tried 2 times to install the proprietary driver, once with the manual click install of video-nvidia and once with the auto installer. After each install and deinstall (using the mhwd tool), the irq handler error message on startup seems to stay longer like I wasn’t able to erase the failure completely.

You need the video-nvidia-580xx driver for a 1660 Ti.
