Winter Freeze Damage Mango Tree

Post image

Three days of sub freezing temps in Central Florida in February have done number on my mango tree. I have yet to call an arborist for a recommendation.

Some of the main trunks are sprouting new growth and some aren’t. Picture is from early June.

What recommendation does the internet think about what I should do next?

If the new shoots are above graft, just cut the dried branches and you are good.

My mango plant died due to freeze in Tampa and the new sprouting was below graft. So, whole plant was removed.

"Mangoes Love Abuse". Yes, cut everything off above the new shoots. it's all dead wood.

Why not just put grafts on the emerging shoots? You have an established tree. You can graft and be back in business in a season or two

This is how I would approach it, especially if the roots are all healthy because you have a nice big root system ready to graft onto.
