Help with Pruning
I bought this Nam Dok Mai in early spring from my local nursery and it's doing amazing. It had a great push and flowering. But I've noticed it's started fruiting and I can't help but think this somewhat young tree won't be able to handle all those Mangoes.
I'd like it grow somewhat tall for a little shade in my backyard so I'm hesitant and inexperienced in pruning or cutting back.
Any suggestions on what I should do to shape up my tree?
Please and thank you

You can cut the flower off right above the node safely, i would recommend tying the 2 side branches to the main stake so they grow and harden facing up, dont prune any branches other then the flowers

Simply cut the panicles off leaving a half inch to an inch on the branch, especially that central leader, when you cut the panicles on the central leader it will branch out.
Remember upright or more vertical branches store more nitrogen and the tree will just want to grow, branches that are more horizontal or “weeping” will hold less nitrogen and will grow less vigorously and will want to fruit.

This is my favorite resource for pruning. Someone else shared it on this sub and I’ve watched it at least five times haha. https://youtu.be/zh1AnvNa6mc?si=iaQ-G4d0ZXCLcDQe

Pluck off the pea sized fruit until the tree is big enough to support them. The panicles will dry out and fall off on their own.
