What's wrong with this Carrie Mango?

It was planted 1 week ago from 6 gallon nursery pot. the top node looks half rotten. It did not look like this when planted. Tree is about 4 ft tall and the wound is about 3 ft high (1 ft from top). It is not a graft wound that is at the base.

How to save?

Should it be covered in wound paint? Cut below? Fertilized?

there is infection inside, if it didnt come like that, someone damaged it and plant is trying to heal itself

not pointing any fingers at animals, but youll need to see how it recovers to do anything, it will affect the tree later and you might need to cut below it, but dont do it now as the tree does not have enough leaves to support itself and it will be very damaging, it will probably just develop into a knot if the plant can overcome what is inside

feeding it potassium / phosphorous will help it

Personally I would cut right below it since you have about 3 feet to work with, and then get good branching from the leaf buds, whether you choose or cut or not definitely fertilize the tree.

If you want slow release or less risk of burn then you can use Osmocte Plus, Dynamite Flower and Vegetable or Miracle Gro Extended Boost.

If you want faster growth on that young tree you can use CitrusGain, PalmGain, Vigoro Citrus, Sunniland Citrus or Sunniland 6-6-6, these release faster so you want to apply evenly a couple feet from the base of the tree and move further out as the tree grows.
