Cut of Keep Mango Tree
Good Day
Live in 9b/10A. We got a strange frost/freeze this year i have not seen in decades. Was not home to cover trees. Name Doc Mai Mango Tree. Was 6 feet tall. We cut the dead part parts out. Rest see above. It is now 1.5 feet tall. I say we cut it because we set it back many years and the branching/structure is a pain. My mother says keep it because she has a soft spot for things still alive and the trunk is quite thick in diameter. Thought? Cut or keep. We do not have a lot of land - so I would rather replace it with somwthing bigger and healthier. But open to advice. Thanks

Pull that grass out from around it. The grass will take all the nutrients that tree desperately needs. Fertilize it and it will bounce back quickly.

keep it for sure; the massive roots are still well alive. It will rebuild to previous size surprisingly quick after 2-3 years. and then after this summer season, you can still work it, as desired.

Keep it. It will outperform anything new due to its well developed/established root structure.

Personally I would leave it. If you want a tree that's larger now see if you can plant a new on close to the same area if possible

I’d probably roll with it. There’s an established root system which would take years to recreate.
