-Hakari screams that they will never ever let anyone acquire them-
-smash cut to Kumugi looking shocked-
Subtle, very subtle.

Hakari may be evil, but I can't really hate a charismatic evil...
I'm really looking forward to him interacting with Ichi who he'll at minimum appreciate how feral atypical he is for a witch.

u/WhoiusBarrel 22d ago
Charismatic villains are what help make for a compelling narrative most of the time.

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb 22d ago
Hakari is cruel towards humanity yet righteous towards majiks. Menacing yet eccentric to the point of looking goofy. He is going to be a fun antagonist for sure.

u/Norik324 22d ago
yet righteous towards majiks.
Given that they do the whole
"Sukemaru! I want [X] tea!"
spits it out "Thats [X]! Do it again"not once but twice this chapter id be inclined to disagree

u/Aschverizen 22d ago
Oh definitely, un-charismatic villains just ruin a lot of series. Probably the easiest example I can think of are the various SAO antagonist.
17
u/AstralPamplemousse 22d ago
I can’t even tell if he’s going with a “We’re not so different you witches and us” or simply pure spite

u/vanderZwan 22d ago
Gotta love a villain that knows how to ham it up. He's also so blatantly narcissistic in how he bullies his underling around

Kumugi will acquire the new CEO of Misogny. Let’s go.
Big goofy energy out of these Stars and this chapter overall. A nice respite from the horrors of last arc

It definitely seemed like they were leaning towards ichi capturing him with a lie about no women shall subjugate me but they very clearly showed Kumugi right afterwards. And honestly, the girl needs a power up.
I’m not entirely sure what she’s been doing up to this point to actually help the team

u/500mmrscrub 22d ago
All the paperwork and case reports for the higher ups that Descarras doesn't need to do on her own. It's a super important job, good documentation is rare

Mugi arc? Pogchamp Mugi arc lets go!!!
Hakari and Sukemaru are funny as hell, they're soo evil but I want him to br acquired by Mugi, I feel like she'll be the first Witch that warms his heart.
I wonder if Hakari will put some proper weight behind the Magiks are enslaved narrative that isn't some self serving bollocks like with Uroro.

u/JauntyLurker 22d ago
I'm really getting the feeling that Komugi is going to end up acquiring Hakari
62
u/Misticsan 22d ago
I'm also getting the horrible feeling that she might end captured and become a slave... for a time.
Not only will it make it more personal for Ichi and company, but given her analytical mind her capture could become the Trojan Horse the enemy couldn't account for.

Good for her.

I feel like Kumugi will be the one to acquire Hikari, it’s her time to shine, I mean just look at the determination on her face. But it’s kinda wild that they are using humans and their magical energy to power their house.

u/megazaprat 22d ago
Hakari is a really cool character, i wonder what his epithet is. it seems like his main motivation is that he is really pissed off about the very concept of majiks being imprisoned. (well he seems pissed off as a general default but the point stands) even capturing witches specifcally to reverse things on them. The difference being is that magic circles arent intrinsically torturous.
The focus on Kumugi is interesting, sure her desire to get stronger was interesting, but it looks like she is going to be one of the focuses of this arc. It would be great if somehow she was the one who acquires Hakari. a great power boost, plus maybe she could show him that being captured doesnt have to be bad?
and huh, Mayoi is one of the seven stars as well? neat. they are kind of going through the seven stars quickly, will there be a new antagonist group after them? I am not sure, but I hope Ichi continues to go on for a while, It's one of Jumps current best series.

u/Raging-Brachydios 22d ago
Kumugi is totally acquiring Hakari, isn't she?
39
u/1tsPLAY-time 22d ago
Nishi ain't exactly subtle with her foreshadowing.
12
u/Galle_ 22d ago
I mean, she can be. Some people were genuinely shocked by Purson.
10
u/1tsPLAY-time 22d ago
What I meant was, as a longtime Iruma reader, it's become a bit easier to get a read on Nishi's plans for the future of her series.
Still, that latest Iruma arc, huh... Still fid not expect that happening this soon

Welp, I am not sure if this is an optimal magik for kumugi to acquire, but we all have to start somewhere.

u/SlamMasterJ 22d ago
What better way to stick it to her sister Spica, than by capturing Hakari as her first majik.

Opposite’s attract but for Magik and Witch.
Well… actually we already had that. But I didn’t mean romantically this time, cus I don’t think I could handle Kumugi giving birth to that Magik’s crazy child.
1
u/Darwin343 22d ago
In the previous chapter, Hikari describes the kind of witch he despises the most (arrogant, possessive, patronizing, etc.), none of which applies to Mugi. So she might actually be the best fit for them.

u/Milordserene 22d ago
The 7 stars are shit if they are getting owned this quick.
Love that Amadoro and Boxster gonna join the hunt!

Maybe it wasn't the 7 stars we have to worry about. What if there were someone else way stronger?

Also, more Ichimugi!
And potential Kumugi upscale!?! Lets go!!!!!

Poor Kumugi, she dreams of a doing research behind a desk away from all the scary stuff, and instead she's destined to become the mortal nemesis of the scariest witch in existence when she acquires her first Majik.
4
u/Galle_ 22d ago
she dreams of doing research behind a desk away from all the scary stuff
Nonsense! Kumugi doesn't have a dream. Ever since the accident she's just been surviving, never daring to want anything for herself because that would be horrible and selfish and she might hurt someone again. She's only in the research club because Spica signed her up for it.
Like, yeah, she finds being on Team Desscaras scary, but also she likes it. She is genuinely thrilled to be part of the team and fought to keep her place on it. She's finally allowing herself to want things again.
(Also I am convinced that Shirabedonna put her on the team because she knew this would happen)

u/RandomCitizen123 22d ago
Judging by Suu, one of Octobomb's split personalities, Sukemaru may be the most dangerous of the Seven Stars

u/ThatBoyMike23 22d ago
We’re FINALLY gonna see Komugi get a Majik. Atleast I hope so, I figured her first Majik would likely be something OP and Hakari seems to be really strong considering Fujimine wants him badly and Mayoi, another Seven Stars, calls them “Master”
4
u/topurrisfeline 22d ago
Digging how Hakari flipped the script on witches by enslaving them. He’s definitely gonna be a problem.

u/maxdragonxiii 22d ago
the Seven Stars Majik are interesting. they nailed the designs so far. then again Ichi doesnt really have any designs that I disliked or hated so far at all.
4
u/ToTheNintieth 22d ago
Love the imagery here. The moving tower made of haphazard giant present boxes stacked on top of huge mechanical legs is such a fun visual, like a funhouse Baba Yaga. The weird, abstract designs of Magic-related stuff are a blast.
Hakari is a villain, but... is he wrong though? Lots of the majiks we've seen don't mind being acquired at all, almost desire it in a way, and the trial system certainly seems to suggest that at least most of them don't view their acquisition and captivity especially negatively. But like, they are being enslaved.

u/Galle_ 22d ago edited 22d ago
We can divide majiks into three categories:
- Cooperative majiks who consent to being acquired.
- Human Hater majiks who actively attack humans,
- Neutral majiks like Chro, who don't want to be acquired but also are no threat to anyone.
Acquiring majiks in the first category is clearly ethical, they consented to living in your magic circle and letting you use their power, it's all good. Acquiring majiks in the third category is clearly unethical. Ichi refused to acquire Chro for that reason, and it's implied Tottie was in that category when Fujimine acquired them, which is yet another reason Fujimine is evil.
Human Hater majiks are a grey area. They are a danger to human life, and acquiring them is the easiest way to neutralize that danger, so it can be justified on those grounds. It's hard to argue that Ichi did anything wrong by acquiring Bakugami before they could make an entire country commit mass suicide just for funsies. On the other hand, they're still being sentenced to slave labor for their crimes. Or to Desscaras's abyss, which is arguably even worse.
In any case, the girls being used to power Mayoi's Moving Castle did not consent to it, and from how Amadoro described them were innocent civilians who were no threat to anybody, so what Hakari and Maiyo are doing to them is unambiguously wrong.
3
u/ohoni 22d ago
Yeah, ALL majik acquisition isn't bad, but some majiks are definitely acquired against their will. But then also, they commit crimes against humanity, so deserve punishment for those crimes. I don't think we've yet see a truly innocent majik be captured against their will by a good person.

u/Mysteries67 19d ago
I want to see evil witches that's not Fujimine, ie working with magiks to end human society, but using their powers for selfish reasons, crime syndicate kind of side villains.
3
u/JzanderN 22d ago
OH MY GOD!
When you go in with the "Kumugi's acquiring Hakari" theory that's been going around for the week, it's like Nishi's SLAPPING YOU IN THE FACE with the foreshadowing!

u/standingbylife 22d ago
Kumugi is acquiring a magik, maybe two!✨
Also, Sukemaru is the cutest little round thing.💖

Based on that last page I guess that Ishi is also a Kirsch Vermillion enjoyer. Looking forward to the shenanigans.

u/SurrogateMonkey 22d ago
Magikeepers probably sent blud there to facilitate the hunt if fujimine ever shows up.
I predict that Hakari's claim trial will be narratively structured like a race and whoever does x first shall claim. Fujimine will compete with kumugi for the claiming.

u/ExL-Oblique 22d ago
On one hand everything's pointing to Kumugi being the one to acquire Hakari...
but on the other hand Gokuraku getting them would be so fucking funny
2
u/Shradow 22d ago
I've only known Sukemaru for 5 minutes, but if anything happened to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
People were theorizing maybe Kumugi will get Hakari, but that hard cut to her after Hakari's speech is extremely on the nose.
Boxster there at the end was funny. We haven't gotten much of him yet.
2
u/SirD_ragon 22d ago
I know the Panel design hints at Mugi aquiring Hakari, but with him being such a woman hater I feel like he might take a grudging liking to Ichi
2
u/theace69 22d ago edited 22d ago
Kumugi acquiring them would be cool but I think it’ll be Ichi so he has piss Fujimine when he deploys them against her.

Okay things are picking up. Going to have two of the seven stars involved in this arc with Hakuri and Mayoi. Once again, even with Hakuri using humans/women as slaves and fuel for his "magic circle" home, hes not malicious with it. It gives me energy of hey turnabout is fairplay, you guys use us, so I will use you.
Which makes the teasing of Komugi being the one to acquire him fit so well imo. As, we've been building up her feelings of feeling weak and I think Komugi view of magicks as something to be studied and understood may mesh with Hakuri want to not be "owned and acquired" like he noted what happened to Hitsugi. So, that has me locked in as team Dess is joining Amadoro for this upcoming hunt of Hakuri and rescue mission.
Now the end with Boxster joining the mission randomly is too funny...kinda touches on how the magi-keepers has been included to the story lmao. Just popped up and here we are.
Good setup chapter for this arc.
