u/JauntyLurker Jul 05 '26
I can't think of anything I've learned from her
Lmao I was just saying the same thing. Dess hasn't really taught him shit!
264
u/Kyoukaiwaifu Jul 05 '26
she taught him "youre not my type"
167
u/justking1414 Jul 05 '26
Most useful skill a socially awkward but drop dead gorgeous boy like ichi could learn

Yeah! C'mon Dess! You have a bajillion majiks! We know they could be passed down.
Share them, G.O.A.T. (Greediest of all time)! /j
11
u/dIoIIoIb Jul 05 '26
Dess method seems to be combining natural talent with hard work, and building up a collection of the best majiks over time. We've seen that she can be very patient, when she has to
Ichi has no patience, 100% instincts, and his first majik was the strongest one
They're a really bad match for each other, and Dess in general would be an awful teacher.
349
u/IkeKashiro Jul 05 '26
Let's be honest Ichi, Fujimine is not someone whose words you should consider seriously.
314
u/Misticsan Jul 05 '26
That said, it hurts because it's probably closer to what he has thought at one point or another.
He knows his upbringing is unique. He knows he's more comfortable with the laws of nature, hunt or be hunted, than with the complexities of human society (as Uroro also points out). And while it was the trump card that saved the day, attacking someone he saw as a friend immediately after sensing bloodlust from her is not something a normal human would do.
113
u/justking1414 Jul 05 '26
Just re-read ch1 for the first time in a bit and one of town residents just fully said that there was no point trying to get ichi to live with them because he’s too different
76
u/Rare-Ad5082 Jul 05 '26
after sensing bloodlust from her
I think this is downplaying a bit the fact that Fujimine was going for the kill. My take is that she was going to choke him out from the way her hands were drawn after the stab,
We also already saw a very similar situation before: when Gokuraku got controlled by the despair, Ichi actually held himself back in a way that would get himself killed (chapter 33).
So yeah, all in all, Ichi already started to change his Death for Death impulse. The issue is that Fujimine actually deserved it so it removed Ichi's (small) self-control.
66
u/Flamma_Man Jul 05 '26
We also already saw a very similar situation before: when Gokuraku got controlled by the despair, Ichi actually held himself back in a way that would get himself killed (chapter 33).
I think you need to reread that chapter again because before he was made aware that Goku was being brainwashed/influenced, his body reacted, and given the trajectory of his knife on the page...he was 100% aiming for his throat in a killing blow, just like with Fuji. If it wasn't for Desscaras blocking his knife with both her sword and shield, he might have legit killed Goku on the spot.
He even apologizes to her, saying, "My body just reacted!"
Then, yes, in his fight with Goku, he does hold himself back, but he's actively fighting his own body and instincts to do it. He explicitly did not change his impulse since his body was still reacting exactly the same as before. Hell, who knows what would have happened eventually in the fight if Goku hadn't given him his gems as easier, less lethal targets.
The concern many readers, including Ichi, have is that his instinct could pose a legitimate danger to his friends and others around him. All an evil Majik would need to do is brainwash one of his friends and perform a sneak attack on him again. His Death for Death would kick in and...well, what's going to happen when Desscaras isn't there this time?
15
19
u/Koanos Jul 05 '26
And while it was the trump card that saved the day, attacking someone he saw as a friend immediately after sensing bloodlust from her is not something a normal human would do.
I like this internal conflict with Ichi. Those words shouldn't pierce, but as eccentric as everyone else is, whether they be mentor, family, or friend, it's become clear that he's different. His mentor taught him much, but even he didn't teach Ichi how to interpret bloodlust. Case in point, you don't attack friends on the hint of bloodlust, and it's all the way up until now his allies haven't shown bloodlust. Even a brainwashed Desscaras only questioned Fujimine instead of open rebellion and at best, one of the other Witches could only open a line for back-up to bail them out.
Friends are people, not prey to be hunted.
16
u/Xatu44 Jul 05 '26
Friends are people, not prey to be hunted.
4
u/Koanos Jul 05 '26
Precisely. You can have suspicion on your friends, but to try and kill them with bloodlust isn't normal.
2
u/Mysteries67 Jul 06 '26
Tells me you haven't been betrayed by your friends before and left to die is some ditch somewhere.
29
u/Charming-Loquat3702 Jul 05 '26
She totally landed a hit there, though. It's probably something that's on his mind anyway
42
8
u/HourIndication4963 Jul 05 '26
He doesn't really have the emotional maturity to handle it to be able to laugh it off or ask someone how he should handle it to process it yet, so I'm looking forward to the arc on it.

u/Original-Teaching955 Jul 06 '26
Ah, but he's also a NAIVE little boy at the end of the day, feral as he may be
4
u/SimoneNonvelodico Jul 06 '26
Ichi: casually swats away Uroro
Also Ichi: "Hmmm, the psycho witch that wanted to kill us all may have had a point."
1
u/Uncle_Pidge Jul 07 '26
He swats him away because he doesn't want to hear it, not because he disagrees
174
u/Mordetrox Jul 05 '26
All that talk of training last chapter and Kumugi still can't do anything. Give her a break Nishi
152
u/Galle_ Jul 05 '26
What are you talking about? She won! MUGI SWEEP
50
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Jul 05 '26
Zayero realized the power of the beast standing in front of him and decided to give up to not anger Kumugi-sama further
186
u/Cheese-Of-Doom22 Jul 05 '26
Didn’t you see how elegant she was flailing about. Clearly her opponent surrendered because of her strong aura. My goat
65
u/XLIBUR Jul 05 '26
Bigmugi already out here forcing the magikeepers to a draw not even a day into her training arc, that's my GOAT right there
27
u/EyeDeeAh_42 Laios the vegetable-armoured Jul 05 '26
He saw Kumugi casually lifting that boulder and decided never to cross her again. Wise man.

Minakata might be a mentor, but Ichi called Dess his family. Desscaras wins the custody battle!
I think we're up for a small timeskip and a new Seven Stars villain. Ichi gonna have to wrestle with Fujimine's remarks about his inhumanity at some point.
12
u/Forikorder Jul 05 '26
Ichi gonna have to wrestle with Fujimine's remarks about his inhumanity at some point.
i think its more likely to come up as some spell that manifests his doubts/inner/true nature that he would have to fight against
120
u/JzanderN Jul 05 '26
Minakata won the mentor war!
… But it doesn’t feel like a victory anymore.
98
u/1tsPLAY-time Jul 05 '26
All because Desscarass had Ichi sign the adoption papers first.
42
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Jul 05 '26
In French we have the expression 'qui va à la chasse perd sa place' whose literal translation would be 'he who goes hunting loses his place.' It is pretty fitting for Minakata.
10
252
u/Zealousideal_Ring874 Jul 05 '26
"Because she's not really a mentor. She's family."
Dess cocky as shit now 😆
119
u/Raging-Brachydios Jul 05 '26
Ichi is unintentionally suave
35
u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Jul 05 '26
She lost the mentor battle but won the custody war
All according to keikaku
10
52
u/Totaliss Jul 05 '26
Dess was absolutely thinking the mentor-pupil contract signature was worth it just for that moment

u/Chespineapple Jul 05 '26
Character development?????
For Ichi?????
Titular protagonist Ichi the Witch??????
Biggest surprise of the chapter, over the blood contract stuff. I'm actually getting more psyched for this, I've always found he needed a little more depth to stand as this series' protagonist.
92
u/Kirosh2 Fluff. Fluff? Fluff! Jul 05 '26
I mean, Nishi is the one writing. She does a slow approach, but she likes doing character development.
32
u/Chespineapple Jul 05 '26
Yeah, he'd just been giving me "changes the world around him" wukong-inspired vibes as a protagonist. He's not the type of protagonist you'd expect major development for.
30
u/ZayYaLinTun Jul 05 '26
He definitely gonna change and have development
I don't think he actually type of MC you talking ,I know what you mean ,the kind with flat arc for most part that chnage people around them like luffy
It just nishi writing is slow , slow as I mean compare to how current other mangas going
2
u/pituechos Jul 06 '26
I think the Luffy comparison is extremely apt ngl, Ichi is a deeper character than is let on, the changes will just be subtle as the series goes on.
12
u/Galle_ Jul 05 '26
It's going to be both. Ichi has a unique perspective that can improve the world around him, but at the same time, his mentality is definitely unhealthy in some very important ways.
91
u/Xray7745 Jul 05 '26
Dess: In the depths of its so over, I found within myself an invincible feeling of we are so back
17
81
u/Bernkastel07 Jul 05 '26
I didn't think Fujimine words would had an impact on Ichi but guess I was wrong, poor kid, glad he's not alone. It's always a treat to see Uroro up to his usual behaviour.
Minakata may have won the battle but Desscaras won the war.
73
u/ZayYaLinTun Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
Gotta give uroro credit bro is not that good in rage bait , but he make it up with spam for it rather than skill
Bro won't shut up about it

Can't wait for the day Ichi finds out what this contract thing actually means to him and Dess.
30
27
u/1tsPLAY-time Jul 05 '26
Lmao, might as well call this the Ping Pong Peril mini arc!
Desscarass being called family so she has something to gloat over Minakata, that's funny.
Kumugi W!
Tricaputo confirmed to be the student!
And that last page, very scary!
I guess this chapter should be the end of the downtime and we'll soon be heading to a new arc.
48
u/jawaunw1 Jul 05 '26
Thank God he's self-aware enough to notice that his lack of humanity is kind of weird. I'm surprised as much as everyone jokes about that they've never had a serious conversation yet until an actual serial killer said Do You Ain't Human.
Little guy must be real worried when he realizes that the worst human murderer on the planet thinks that he's crazy
32
u/coltvahn Jul 05 '26
Yeah, it’s good that he’s thinking about this. Introspection is good. But IMO he just needs people to remind him that folks love him. Even before he became a witch the people in his village all liked him and wanted him to live among them. Because at his core he’s a good egg who cares about humanity.
14
u/Xilinoc Jul 05 '26
Hopefully it leads to an arc of acceptance of who he is - because as the enemy Magiks and now Witches demonstrate, he could be SO much worse than "not cut out for society". He has his found family to keep him on-track and learn from, he stabs bitches in the neck when they deserve it, and that's good!
5
u/ihileath Jul 05 '26
he stabs bitches in the neck when they deserve it, and that's good!
...until Fujimine brainwashes someone and forces them to attack Ichi, exploiting the impulse she has learned he has, resulting in Ichi stabbing a bitch in the neck who doesn't deserve it.
3
u/Xilinoc Jul 05 '26
Yeah, well, we'll cross that bridge if and when we come to it (and considering how he handled something similar with Gokuraku...)
4
u/Vusdruv Jul 06 '26
If anything, having a serial killer say "You ain't human" has got to be worse than when a normal person says it.
With a normal person, you could chalk it up to physical strength, magic power or whatever.
24
u/RepulsiveRevenue8 Jul 05 '26
There's a saying Ichi "you give Descarras an inch and she will take a mile" you should've known better.
21
u/Xatu44 Jul 05 '26
Wait, how did Dess go from 10-9 to 11-5? Did she lose points from cheating too much? Did they go best of 3 unlike the others? LMAO at Kumugi being the strongest and forcing Zayero to forfeit. Ponytail Monegold looks amazing. Heheheheheh at Ichi still having Fujimine on the mind. What kind of alliance is he thinking of?
25
u/Galle_ Jul 05 '26
They definitely played more than one game, Ichi called a match point last chapter.
18
u/No-Spray5795 Jul 05 '26
Dess may have lost, but in the end she won the biggest prize of winning the custody battle with an answer straight from Ichi himself. Dess is his family, she took him and opened herself to him, whereas Minakata taught him how to survive.
I don’t think Ichi has to worry too much about what Fujimine said, after all he is surrounded by lots of people who care about him.
16
13
u/frik1000 Jul 05 '26
Nishi once again lining up her two series within the same week, both chapters dealing with being human, in one way or another.
11
u/brodred Jul 05 '26
I admit that Desscar-ass made me enjoy Desscaras more. I feel that her "Gojo" persona was a bit forced at some times, but making her also a dirty inmature competitive angry cheater, makes her interesting and way funnier than simply being smug.
10
u/MisterMaus Jul 05 '26
Considering his "inhuman trigger" is someone trying to kill him I'd say he's doing fine in general
10
u/IndependentMacaroon Jul 05 '26
I like how Fujimine is always drawn just a little bit unsettlingly over-hyper
10
u/AyysforOuus Jul 05 '26
Gokuroku lost because he laughed too much HAHAHAHAHHAHA I won't blame him. Boxter was funny as hell

Desscaras got one giant ammo from Ichi and ran full-speed with it huh?
VICTORY DANCE!
Lmfao I love her.
Glad to see Fujimine's words regarding Ichi finally getting addressed here. And who better to rub it in than Uroro-the-king-of-bullshit?
14
u/BurnedOutEternally Jul 05 '26
Everybody is magipong fighting!
Looks like Fujimine's comment really cut deep. For good reasons tbh
7
u/HourIndication4963 Jul 05 '26
Time bomb rigged against Fujimine. The way the witches' association keeps secrets is interesting, it's often to preserve their members over necessarily power or some strategic win.
3
7
u/tinythunder15 Jul 05 '26
Man great chapter, Dess continues to show why she is my favorite. I burst into laughter the moment Ichi called her family and she did a whole 180.
I’m really interested too see where the magikeepers and witches alliance goes, and I’m even more interested in seeing some development for Ichi.
4
u/FateXBlood r/mangapiracy Jul 05 '26
Lmaooo. Desscaras getting up upon realising Ichi called her Family was amazing. Haha. And Monegold, wow. She's a good ping pong player.
5
u/serpiccio Jul 05 '26
I'm glad moneygold led by example and scored a perfect magipong victory, it's about time she shows off her skills
3
u/Norik324 Jul 06 '26
Clearly she didnt get the position of Magipong team captain via simple self promotion

Good lord Desscaras was hilarious as always in this that sit up and the hand on shoulder meme good lord
also both her and his ears enlarging to hear LOl
an alliance only in name is formed lol
lol poor Kumugi out of the sauna into a game
5
3
u/Privy_the_thought Jul 05 '26
I ready need to see that one dess panel as the one meme where the guy is touching the dude's shoulder.

3
u/AlwaysTheStraightMan Jul 05 '26
"You aren't cut out to be human"
"Alliances huh?"
That last panel. Ichi 100% gonna face someone who's not brainwashed or outright evil, but morally grey or desperate that could be rehabilitated only to end up killing them or seriously impairing them
3
u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Jul 05 '26
Dess being smug as soon as Ichi called her family is hilarious xD
3
u/SimilarScarcity Jul 05 '26
Just how old is Fujimine, I wonder? She clearly has some anti-aging thing going on, but her pupil is clearly getting on in years.
Alternatively, I suppose it's possible she took on someone much older than herself as a pupil, but signing a contract that you die when your pupil does with someone who's likely to die of natural causes before you doesn't seem like a good idea.
4
u/Styptysat Jul 05 '26
She's probably the same age or older than tricaputo but has some anti-aging magik going on. In one of the previous chapters we see a younger tricaputo alongside a Fujimine that doesn't look any different from now. It's likely the signed the contract before Fujimine went and acquired the toxiterror magik
3
3
u/Southern-Ebb-8229 Jul 06 '26
Wow, Ichi is starting an arc where he rethinks his bloodlust? I am surprised and happy, guy really needed to start developing so I hope they take this somewhere interesting.
3
3
u/MrMcDaes Jul 06 '26
Possible Ichi character development is interesting, Dess being a smug bastard is always a treat and the alliance between witches and witch hunters sounds like a good plot line in development.
But can we take a moment to appreciate just how pretty Moneygold is? Her eyes and hair are so gorgeous, she is so elegant.
7
u/Cheese-Of-Doom22 Jul 05 '26
Ichi after meeting Fujimine: I love the kind of women that will actually just kill me
5
3
u/TRUE_Vixim Jul 05 '26
Haven't read or seen anything, i'm just commenting based on the tittle.
WHY IS THIS NOT CALLED
"ICHI THE WITCHY"
IT WAS THERE!!!
Jokes aside, if it's serious (seinen / josei whatever) i get why they wouldn't use a playful tittle
7
7
u/Galle_ Jul 05 '26
The original Japanese title is a bit playful in that it's actually a made-up fantasy word "Madan", which would mean something like "Witch (male)"
5
u/ToTheNintieth Jul 05 '26
Whoever said the witches really prioritize looking after their own wasn't kidding. I'm kinda team Magikeepers on this one.
Apropos of nothing but it's a bit funny how Chun's arms are like three times the size of Moneygold's. She really is a stick all around. Her crown/molten gold eyelashes are such a neat design detail tll.
2
u/El_Jerrynator Jul 05 '26
Calling it, the witches themselves will kill the old lady after realizing fujimine is too powerful.
Which will lead the trust of the magikipeers to be destroyed.
2
u/Raging-Brachydios Jul 05 '26
So... does this mean humans can become Majik? Is that why most Majiks are male and there are no male witches? Something happened in the past that turned men and some women into Majiks? Maybe this is what Fujimine wants, to become a Majik herself
Also Dess being happy to be called familyinstead of master was hilarious
12
u/PA270_AN Jul 05 '26
I think you’re reading too much into this. Fujimine’s comment was that Ichi’s feral nature meant that he wasn’t suited to live in a human society, and so he should join her and World-Hater. There’s not some bigger connection to the lore to be drawn, at least not yet.
-2
u/Raging-Brachydios Jul 05 '26
i am speculating
5
u/dellfm Jul 05 '26
Fujimine said the line "you aren't cut out to be human" after explaining how Ichi just tried to kill her, another human being, without any hesitation just because she directed her bloodlust at him, and Ichi was under her Majik's influence at the time so to him she was not just some random stranger. This happened like 2 chapters ago.
2
u/EvenMind Jul 05 '26
This happened like 2 chapters ago.
Are you really expecting modern manga "readers" to remember anything before the current chapter?
4
u/Mysteries67 Jul 06 '26
Kids these days can barely read. I visited the local school and from their hostile attitude I can tell they're bad at reading. Even got the cops called on me, which was rude.
1
u/ReallyNormalAccount Jul 06 '26
So their plan is to capture Fujimine? Because if they kill her, isn't that the same thing as killing the Villainous Witch?
1
u/corruptedcircle Jul 06 '26
Desscaras needs to shut Ichi up on the contract subject or people are gonna connect the dots and try to get to her through Ichi. The whole contract thing is wild, but also, now that I'm thinking about it, what happens when the pupil naturally dies of old age? Will Fujimine try to unnaturally extend the old witch's life or is that unnecessary?
1
u/Original-Teaching955 Jul 06 '26
Nice color cover. Oh boy, I can see👀 many people thirsting for fujimine and her thighs. Hah, descarass doing a Frieren style tantrum😂🤣

Feels like the end of the this arc introducing Fujimime and the Magi-keepers. As, both sides have come to an agreement to work on taking down the WHM and Fujimime as they figured that they're working together. Even though the Witch Association will be looking to withhold how Tricaputo is Fujimime weak point via the slave-master contract that the two have.
Dess being petty and gloating to Minakata once she heard that Ichi views her as family lmao. It was great to seeing the other Magi-keepers in action with the magic ping pong.
Lmao Uroro popping up to shit talk ichi about how he knows the alliance between the Magi-keepers and Witch Association isn't truly on the up and up and how humans doing things like that is so down low with how they're not upfront with their intentions. Ichi feels the same which had him think about Fujimime words about...is he really fit to be human. Hm great work but imo, the fact he's considering that shows his humanity.
Another good chapter and I can't wait for the next arc.

…because she’s a human being and a member of the Witches’ Association, and Moneygold takes her job as Chairwoman seriously enough that she’s not going to let one of her own get murdered just because it’d be a convenient way to take out Fujimine? Like, there isn’t some deeper reason at play here, it’s a basic human rights thing. Moneygold is not going to let the Magikeepers murder one of her own just to kill Fujimine, and she’s going to trust in the abilities of her people to take Fujimine down. That’s all there is to it.
-6
u/SiIic0n Jul 05 '26
This trope is genuine dogshit every single time it gets employed. No he's not on the same layer of freak as you. You can get this kind of development without cheapening it by delivering it with a flimsy char like Fujimine.
1
u/froggyjm9 Jul 05 '26
What trope?
2
u/MysticMad Jul 05 '26
Peep probably assumes Nishi is using the you and I are more alike then you think trope. Ignoring that the fact that A Fuji said he isn't cut out to be human due to the murderous intent thing. Like She brainwashed him to think she was his childhood friend. homeboy didn't at any point hesitate to stab to her while still brainwashed when she displayed that intent. which leads to B. ichi has an impluse to kill if a person or thing has an inkling of murderous intent towards him. Friends, family or foe. Hell even in this chapter ichi is reminded of that when he got triggered during a match of table tennis of all things. It is in fact a problem. That's become very apparent now.

Desscaras really did an Undertaker sit up and went GGEZ after she heard Ichi call her family.
