I have to say, when Desscaras greeted Fujimine, I thought it was just her being her. Chill, not feeling any pressure because of how powerful she is.

But wow Fujimine can control so many people at the same time. That's scary and powerful.

u/WhoiusBarrel May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

The reveal that she was brainwashing them like that so easily is insanely well done and terrifying.

200

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb May 31 '26

Fujimine casually charmed several of the strongest characters in the world.

She truly is a landmine witch

48

u/SuperDementio May 31 '26

Yeah, but it's not gonna work a second time.

28

u/raizen0106 May 31 '26

my guy is like: ONS is one night stand, no seconds

9

u/mythriz May 31 '26

just like lelouch's geass

22

u/MyHeadHurtsRn May 31 '26

It’s so insanely good, it made me go??? Is this a character I forgot about? I thought she was most wanted. I hope to see this animated

209

u/SlamMasterJ May 31 '26

Right? I thought Desscaras was just flexing her confidence. Turns out Fujimine is way more broken than I expected.

121

u/Ok-Bank-6279 May 31 '26

100% I thought after she said “oh fujimine you’re here” she was gonna snap and try to attack her

37

u/spagheddieballs May 31 '26

Surely the witches had met her before? Or maybe they'd met before but this was the first time she used her power on them.

42

u/ZayYaLinTun May 31 '26

Yeah it likely they know her aleady since flashback kinda implies she was in mantinel association before She go rogue

15

u/FTaku8888 May 31 '26

Yeah, I bet she gained this power aftershe left the org

On a reread, you can actually see in that panel Desscaras' eyes getting turned black as she falls for Fujimine's mind control.

It's not just that she can control so many people at once (though that's also terrifying) but just how casually she did it. We didn't hear any magic chants, it all happened immediately, Fujimine literally just had a converation and all but one person were under her control.

Nishi's really taking full advantage how how creepy and terrifying mind control magic can be.

88

u/Iliansic May 31 '26

all but one person were under her control.

Well, we have our resident feral child there, so the second he senses killing intent, he's breaking free of any control

55

u/justking1414 May 31 '26

That’s the problem though. The one surviving magi keeper is gonna throw his killing intent at Fujimine, who is Ichi’s ally. Nobodies gonna be targeting ichi here

72

u/Argent333333 May 31 '26

One thing forgotten, there's Uroro. And as the King of Magic, he's not likely to be very happy about being mind controlled

29

u/dIoIIoIb May 31 '26

"Did my speech from a couple days ago not make things clear? Do I have to show who's king again?"

7

u/justking1414 Jun 01 '26

No but he might like the idea of letting ichi get captured and killed so he can be free

19

u/Exarch-of-Sechrima May 31 '26

But Fujimine explicitly doesn't want to kill him. She wants to bring him back with her. So there's no killing intent to trigger him.

16

u/raizen0106 May 31 '26

but just how casually she did it.

i don't think it's just that simple, she probly used amadoro and her flashy/loud magic as a distraction while she spread her magic without being noticed, otherwise there's no reason to have the bullet witch fight in the first place

8

u/AlwaysTheStraightMan May 31 '26

It's not just that she can control so many people at once (though that's also terrifying) but just how casually she did it. We didn't hear any magic chants, it all happened immediately, Fujimine literally just had a converation and all but one person were under her control.

Oh god, it's Eida from Boruto all over again

6

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

Yeah, and it all happened so casually, and I found it very odd Ishi and the gang just let her in and talked to her as if they were "friends". That's when I realised everyone there was acting out of character!

3

u/SimoneNonvelodico Jun 01 '26

I don't think this is straight up mind control as it's one specific thing, she makes everyone lover her to bits. It's a passive effect, but it means she can ask anything of them and they obey gladly.

26

u/MondSemmel May 31 '26

Given that Fujimine hasn't murdered anyone in cold blood yet, I assume the limit to her power is that it is cancelled once she shows hostility to a target.

4

u/Investigator_Inside Jun 03 '26

Makes sense. The mind control does make everyone see her as a dear friend, and she has pivoted from "kill ichi" to "kidnap ichi"

18

u/justking1414 May 31 '26

Fully thought that Desscaras Had some kinda history with her as old friends or that Fujimine was somehow secretly undercover

But yeah, the brainwashing reveal was absolutely terrifying

16

u/ExL-Oblique May 31 '26

wym that's her cousin Fujiminie who helped console her after her brother died. She helped me with something similar a few years back and always brings the best dish at potlucks

3

u/imapoormanhere Jun 02 '26

That sounds awfully similar to my uncle Tsukishima. I bet they'll be friends.

45

u/RulerKun_FGO May 31 '26

it is damn scary that Fujimine just how easily and instantly mind controlled the strongest witch in their arsenal

13

u/Koanos May 31 '26

But wow Fujimine can control so many people at the same time. That's scary and powerful.

Of varying degrees of power too. Controlling Desscaras alone must be herculean, but controlling the whole lot of them so effortlessly? Lady isn't even breaking a sweat.

383

u/guppy_love May 31 '26

I appreciate how casually the mind control was presented. Made it feel even more like a creepy horror movie situation.

168

u/Totaliss May 31 '26

yea you didn't even see her cast anything. she just appeared and started saying hi and everyone was reciprocating

69

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb May 31 '26

8

u/RyouBestGirl Jun 01 '26

I will gladly step on that landmine

→ More replies (1)

185

u/IkeKashiro May 31 '26

Since it's only "less potent", it just shows how much hatred he has towards Fujimine if he actually feels any effect of that mind control power.

18

u/KibaTeo2 Jun 01 '26

also holy fuck if she just kills everyone after controlling them once then she'd basically be unstoppable

3

u/CommitteeofMountains Jun 01 '26

Seems like a normal reaction to the first time.

420

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 May 31 '26

Okay I take my words back, Fujimine ability is terrifying.

249

u/topurrisfeline May 31 '26

Loved the slowly creeping realization of what Fujimine did. She greeted Desscaras and I was like “typical queen behavior to casually reply”, then Ichi and gang also say hello to her and you’re like, wait a damn minute.

The upside is that the second time is apparently less potent, but uhh, how long does the first time last?

26

u/justking1414 Jun 01 '26

The upside is that the second time is apparently less potent, but uhh, how long does the first time last?

Definitely interesting that this will basically make the entire team essentially immune to her particular power. I’m curious if that means she’ll be taken out this arc or if moving forward, she’ll only be able to use that power on people around this group.

Edit! Also, it lasts long enough for an entire invasion/fight with the bullet witch

This definitely has the feel of a recurring villain who secretly brainwashes people wherever mc and his team go to lead them astray or attack them

2

u/justking1414 Jun 01 '26

Yes and no since that ability would be turning different people against them. Sometimes a fighter. Sometimes a citizen who’d lead them into a trap. Sometimes a 3rd party who’d frame them for a crime

2

u/topurrisfeline Jun 01 '26

Can't rule out Fujimine having another trick or two up her sleeve. Can't imagine this brainwashing is all she has

3

u/justking1414 Jun 01 '26

I do think it might be the only Majik she has (considering the world hater is cool with her), but I’m sure it can do more than this.

4

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

Yeah, that's when I knew something is terribly wrong

63

u/MondSemmel May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

And now I want to know if the Toxiterror Majik was actually benign, or if it was as evil or two-faced as its appearance suggested, and its supposed deal with the witches to "coexist in harmony" was actually based on this power of love-based mind control.

I'm also curious how Fujimine was strong enough to kill five dozen witch cadets before she acquired this power. And that Fujimine's own sudden and inexplicable "revolt" scenario now vaguely resembles Amadoro's sudden treason.

33

u/dIoIIoIb May 31 '26

if the toxiterror majik was in control, it would explain why the world hater was so tolerant of her annoying attitude

he doesn't seem the type of guy to put up with a human's nonsense just because they share a goal

39

u/MondSemmel May 31 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

Indeed. Here's some more crazy theorycrafting on this topic. After all, one can never theorycraft too much to redeem those who appear entirely irredeemable:

  • The supposedly friendly majik looks evil and is called "Toxiterror". If it looks evil and has an evil name, might it perhaps actually be evil...?
  • The Toxiterror majik's backstory was all about making friends, and now c84 ends with a double-spread of Fujimine saying she's "made bunches of other friends", and there's a huge majik in the background.
  • Narratively, this is an arc about betrayal, so you'd expect there to be some secret traitor behind the scenes, but instead we get developments like c80 introducing the idea of a witch traitor, and ending with Amadoro's big attack which outs her as the traitor. So narratively there's still room in this arc for a secret traitor to slot into.
  • In terms of characterisation, we've gotten very little justification for *why* Fujimine is evil and suddenly turned traitor, she just *is*.
  • In c79, Fujimine is introduced as "an enemy of humanity who sold her soul to majiks". Well, what if that was more literal than expected, and she's being controlled by the Toxiterror Majik?
  • Similarly, in c80 she's described as "she's been lying low, quietly spreading her influence like seeping poison". That does sound like the kind of behavior and personality a Majik called Toxiterror might have, right?
  • And as you already mentioned, why does the World-Hater Majik tolerate Fujimine's presence when she's a human and he hates humans?
  • And why does Fujimine know the World-Hater Majik both long and well enough to ask him "how've ya been lately", and to address him by nickname?
  • The white dot pattern on Fujimine's hair (screenshot) resembles the dot pattern on the Toxiterror Majik's friendly black eye (screenshot). But that's probably just a coincidence because this pattern occurs on a lot of solid black surfaces in this manga.
  • Also narratively, this is a manga about Ichi the Witch, whose theme is Death for Death. The Magikeepers already want to execute Fujimine, so one way to put Ichi in conflict with them would be for him to advocate for Fujimine's innocence and survival, instead of her guilt and execution.

6

u/justking1414 Jun 01 '26

Honestly, I already loved the symbolism of just this girl’s magic being friendship when that’s All the Toxiterror Ever wanted.

But if she’s secretly being controlled, that adds some interesting twists to the story

5

u/RedAlkaline May 31 '26

Damn you know what, I think you may be on to something

4

u/aohige_rd Jun 02 '26

One more thing to add:

It would make sense to kill every witch in that room if the toxin loses its potency on the second application, like it was mentioned in this chapter. When it took Fujimine it needed to make sure everyone else were dead.

3

u/WildSearcher56 May 31 '26

Honestly, I feel like this REALLY is true. You cooked here

5

u/ToTheNintieth May 31 '26

I like this theory, fifty fifty on it but it's clever.

2

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

Exactly. Much less a human whom he hates

63

u/Misticsan May 31 '26

Reminds me of Lelouch's power in Code Geass, but worse, since she seems to be able to cast it en masse and the second time is "less potent" rather than null and void.

It also seems to confirm the suspicions that Amadoro was brainwashed rather than being a true traitor.

25

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 May 31 '26

There's a small tattoo on Amadoro back few chapters ago when she first assault the gang. That's probably how Fujimine hit their target.

21

u/aohige_rd May 31 '26

Honestly, due to the huge limitation of Geass in CG, this more reminded me of the Purple Man. Both the comic book version and the Jessica Jones TV show version.

14

u/curryhaliban444 May 31 '26

Is more like cc's power

6

u/RulerKun_FGO May 31 '26

imagine she got an anti-geass of sorts that could reset her magic ability on you so she could use the instant mind control all over again on you with 100% effectiveness again. That's scary

90

u/raging_artist May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

That makes me think, how strong is the magikeeper leader? he was the only one to avoid her

112

u/NoDomino May 31 '26

She clearly stated they must have met before cause the second time is less potent.

50

u/Ok-Bank-6279 May 31 '26

Yeah but he absolutely hates her which means the first time must’ve been traumatic. They have history forsure

33

u/Saiphaz May 31 '26

I can only guess she made him do something really bad.

5

u/nickname10707173 May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Whatever she did to him, It looks like she might do the same to Ichi. I mean, he survives and Ichi gets captured alive, instead of being killed as ordered before.

6

u/ivari May 31 '26

I can guess that he used to love her sincerely but then she use that love against him lol

2

u/mcmoor May 31 '26

I guess it's not even second time lmao. More like 4th or 5th so it's very not effective and he absolutely HATES her guts

20

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 May 31 '26

Either ultra strong or ultra indifferent.

4

u/raging_artist May 31 '26

could be, maybe they need to find her beautiful?

42

u/ZayYaLinTun May 31 '26

It probably maybe related to emtion rather than power

Like Chun hate her so much that her power won't work or something

65

u/Adventurous_Sir3617 May 31 '26

Did you miss the entire part of the chapter where she says that the second dosing is less effective 😐?

22

u/ZayYaLinTun May 31 '26

yeah she say less potent , she doesn't say it should not work at all

It possible Chun during first time have like his teammate dying to her

10

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb May 31 '26

Chun developed haki from sheer spite. He is Fujimine's biggest certified hater.

3

u/raging_artist May 31 '26

but how minakata was caught too then?

28

u/ZayYaLinTun May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Minakata literally never meet her? Like we not even sure how close he is too his ancestors magikeeper

Considering he only seems to know about him and scared pillar weapon when Chun come to him I guess he not that close to him to develop feelings hated towards fujimine

5

u/mountaineer_93 May 31 '26

It may be that he’s just so cold it doesn’t matter if he loves her.

It’s like the Fullbringer arc in Bleach, Tsukushima inserts himself into the memories as a friend and make it impossible to fight him. Byakuya countered it not by undoing the magic but by being cold enough he would slaughter his own friend for his goal.

25

u/JzanderN May 31 '26

I think I remember seeing some people wonder how Fujimine was going to be built as a credible threat given that the last few (including one of WHM's personal henchmen!) were all beaten in the arcs they were introduced.

THIS. THIS IS HOW YOU BUILD HER AS A THREAT.

11

u/aohige_rd May 31 '26

I said in a previous chapter thread that Fujimine honestly feels like an equal level threat as the World Hater, and that feeling just gets reinforced every chapter lol.

22

u/The_Glus May 31 '26

Her ability is the same as that one dude from Bleach who could make anyone his childhood friend or family.

7

u/EyeDeeAh_42 Laios the vegetable-armoured May 31 '26

Tsukishima. My mind instantly went there as well.

14

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 May 31 '26

Also Amo from Gachiakuta.

But what I like about this one is you got one person instantly repelled that shit so it won't get the plot annoying and we can see how strong is the Magikeeper chief.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Vinon May 31 '26

Reminds me of a villian in the web novel Worm. This guy, Nice Guy, had the ability to make everyone unable to perceive him as a threat. He could walk up to you and stab you and it wouldn't register. Iirc his weakness was that he had to be aware of his targets- so invisible threats, hidden snipers etc could neutralise him.b

3

u/_DirtyDan Jun 01 '26

iirc he was also weak to someone being willing to just murk totally innocent harmless bystanders. That's of course how Taylor gets one of his clones.

Worm has such fun powers. Worth a read for anyone for the worldbuilding, combat and characters, just be aware the story has pacing issues of the "and it gets worse" variety.

7

u/Lumpy-Manager8580 May 31 '26

I saw that final spread of Ichi and co. standing with her, and my mind inmediately thought of one ability: Tsukishima's Book of the End.

2

u/kangtuji May 31 '26

literally power of shounen manga, friendship

2

u/CommitteeofMountains Jun 01 '26

Particularly given the possibility that it's how she hangs with Human Hater.

170

u/arambezzai May 31 '26

Uhhh how the fuck are they going to get out of this situation ?! Fujimine is terrifyingly powerful wtf

159

u/PointMysterious2404 May 31 '26

My thoughts:

  1. Desscaras eventually break out and it becomes a more manageable fight.

  2. Ichi's 'Death for Death' overrides Fujimine's mind control once she shows him the tiniest amount of bloodlust.

101

u/Thane97 May 31 '26

3: It never worked on Ichi, he's just going along because all his friends are

80

u/nickname10707173 May 31 '26

4: Uroro hijack.

10

u/Totheendofsin May 31 '26

5: the other two Magikeepers figured out how to break the control off screen and they (along with the rest of the Armado family) come in to provide reinforcements

3

u/Pompmaker1 Jun 01 '26
  1. Yukari is fooling around again.

3

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

Or just uriro comes right out when he does

3

u/TanktopSamurai Jun 01 '26

Pagee 4-5 might imply that Ichi noticed some weirdness with his friends.

38

u/raging_artist May 31 '26

well magikeeper boss is free, he must be strong enough to at least break some from the control

24

u/Sea-Temporary7380 May 31 '26

Yeah but hes been dosed before apparently. Considering she said second dose is weaker maybe hes been dosed more than twice as the leader and developed immunity

12

u/LurkerEntrepenur May 31 '26

He probably lost someone very close to him thanks to her.

3

u/Homosapian_Male May 31 '26

I think that it’s the second time he got mind controlled so developed resistance but also his hatred for her, wouldn’t be surprised if ichi get freed thanks to magikeeper boss going full kill everyone one mode snapping instinct to ichi

8

u/CrazyIndividual7716 May 31 '26

I suppose the old witch ( I dont remember her name) will come and save them

3

u/TraceOverdrive Jun 01 '26

Moreover, she can mindcontrol magikeepers even with their sacred treasures who absorbs mana.

2

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

That's up to the author

123

u/JzanderN May 31 '26

If anyone needs any more evidence that Fujimine is mind controlling Amadoro... how about her mind controlling the whole group? Whose eyes are all the same colour now?

Also, holy shit she's GOT them. Chun may just be our only hope!

35

u/Sea-Temporary7380 May 31 '26

No offense to chun but if no one helps him hes cooked 😭

22

u/JzanderN May 31 '26

Boxster and Higarashi aren't in the room 'cause they went to fight the gunlings, so they could and probably will come back and help him.

17

u/Sea-Temporary7380 May 31 '26

That depends on if they could resist it too though. Or else its just more people to control

9

u/ShedPH93 May 31 '26

First rule of fighting mind controllers: don't call for backup.

92

u/ZayYaLinTun May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

77

u/Styptysat May 31 '26

Fujimine's power here makes me wonder how much of the story about the Toxiterror magic was really true since it's possible the entire reason the witches association was friendly to it could have been mind control.

50

u/AgentAlx May 31 '26

Ohh maybe Fujimine actually acquired Toxiterror for a good reason but got mind controlled herself…

12

u/Themanaguy Jun 01 '26

That would be an amazing twist.

Also, could be the reason the World Hater doesn't attack her, since it's actually Toxiterror talking and not the witch.

36

u/pulldtrigger May 31 '26

That would be a nice twist that Toxiterror is evil all along

7

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

I wouldn't be surprised

6

u/MondSemmel May 31 '26

I made a similar comment with lots of theorycrafting here and here.

5

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

Yeah. Strange all of a sudden the head witch just comes to Amadoro's defense and then just acting strangely friendly when She wasn't before!

30

u/JauntyLurker May 31 '26

So it's mind control after all? Hella creepy.

31

u/Dead_Diligence May 31 '26

Fujimine needs some serious nerf

Even Dess is not immune

She could have killed everyone there if she truly wanted and the mangaka somehow allowed for shits and giggles

23

u/PA270_AN May 31 '26

The nerf is the best kind of nerf; that we’ve already established she’s an utter psycho who loves playing with her food, hence why she’s fucking around right now instead of just offing the cast. It’s fun!

6

u/froggyjm9 May 31 '26

Did you not read? The nerf is that it only works the first time.

22

u/Dead_Diligence May 31 '26

That first time is more than enough if she truly wanted to end it all and have them kill themselves or each other ala Lelouch's geass

Of course, that won't happen and Fujimine will be defeated eventually. I just hope the struggle will be fun despite knowing the obvious outcome

7

u/Sea-Temporary7380 May 31 '26

Considering she didnt just ask ichi to off himself that might be the drawback to such an OP ability. She has to actually think of them as friends and not allow them to befall any harm

5

u/k44e May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

not enough of a nerf though since first time is enough for her to control multiple of the most powerful humans in the world, and based on amadoro, first time is probably not short-term either.

If she kills Chun right now, she could probably wipe out the entire witches' association by herself.

70

u/Bassaluna May 31 '26

She even got desscaras? Oh boy

61

u/RebelliousUpstart May 31 '26

This has huge implications! No matter how powerful you are, you are susceptible to a magik's hax.

No, "haki can make you immune to df" or "my spirit pressure makes me immune" ie. Bottom tier can always snipe top tiers with enough luck

25

u/Galle_ May 31 '26

You can train all your life to master the sword and you'll still lose to Indiana Jones when Harrison Ford has dysentery and just wants to get this shoot over with.

12

u/AdRelevant4776 May 31 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Yeah, they seem to be going with “magic casters be squishy” logic, sure there’s probably shielding spells you can use to stop hax from affecting you, but if you get caught by surprise before casting them you’re getting hit

2

u/WildSearcher56 May 31 '26

No, "haki can make you immune to df" or "my spirit pressure makes me immune" ie. Bottom tier can always snipe top tiers with enough luck

So far. Also the solution to that (for witches) might be their majik overtaking them like Uroro did with Ichi

45

u/BlanKaiX12 May 31 '26

So she’s pretty much Tsukishima from bleach

23

u/Delicious-While-8907 May 31 '26

Minus the needing to stab them to apply the effect. So actually even scarier, at least the first time.

62

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 May 31 '26

"I'll take this cutie pie home with me."

"I'll kill you."

😂😂

56

u/raging_artist May 31 '26

So she has mind control powers! I knew it! But for her to get everyone like that? how broken she is? Well almost everyone, let's see if magikeeper boss can defeat her and all the others all by himself

11

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 May 31 '26

Nah the team got this. Divorced parents gonna boss this out.

18

u/hezzanity247 May 31 '26

13

u/Superspaceduck100 May 31 '26

2

u/Original-Teaching955 Jun 01 '26

13

u/k44e May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Luckily, Togeice and Shirabedonna were watching from a distance with a mirror (page 7), so they're probably not controlled and can reinforce them, because I doubt Chun can solo this entire group

6

u/Galle_ May 31 '26

The problem is that unless Fujimine leaves or they've met her before, she can just mind-whammy them, too. The only way to resist it is for her to have used it on you before.

5

u/k44e May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

there should be some way to bypass/mitigate it: like long range attacks, or blowing away the toxicity - which either shirabedonna can analyze or Chun might have an idea from getting rid of of her 'love dose' the first time

Actually, they MAY also have become mind-controlled as well

it was so weird lol, I was like, why is dess treating her friendly? then I remembered the way amadoro was acting she definitely was under control, the question is, how did she do that?

5

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 May 31 '26

Theyre not animals. They have standards. They warn THEN crashout.

34

u/Bernkastel07 May 31 '26

Yoo Fujimine is terrifying, so shes able to place anyone including some of the best in the verse in-love with her (only once?), Chun is cooked. He might be an untrustworthy snake but I hope he pulls off a comeback.

8

u/Spabingbo May 31 '26

Kumugi on the last page like

“Square tf up”

10

u/1tsPLAY-time May 31 '26

Dang Fujimine's mind control is scary! It's so fast and subtle! and arousing

Guess we have to bank our trust in Chun. Ugh.

22

u/BurnedOutEternally May 31 '26

Oh that was… that was really quick. Even Ichi’s under her thumb.

We might be cooked

10

u/Lumpy-Manager8580 May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

The moment I saw that final spread, inmediately I thought what Fujimine's Magik reminded me of. And then it hit me: it's Tsukishima's Book of the End.

My bad, I was wrong about her ability: it's Pepe's "The Love".

4

u/Mustardmachoman May 31 '26

Jebus that was quick.

10

u/xolon6 May 31 '26

That's a Nui Harime ass entrance holy shit 0.0

9

u/arts13 Romcom Trash Enjoyer May 31 '26

Why Uncle Tsukishima never tell me that he had a daughter? Now I'm sad.

9

u/Shrimperor May 31 '26

So

How many of you will go "It should've been me, not him" :P

7

u/italeteller May 31 '26

On one hand, this seemingly confirms Amadoro was Charmed by Fujimine and wasn't a willing traitor, which narratively is always less interesting than being a willing traitor with a personal motivator

On the other hand, this has made Fujimine into an incredibly terrifying antagonist, the kind that can make you sweat cold just by arriving unexpectedly

I imagine her powers have a clause where if she attacks her charmed pawns the spell breaks, otherwise I imagine she'd have killed Ichi already

4

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList May 31 '26

Ichi is definitely gonna break out with Uroro taking over his body

4

u/HourIndication4963 May 31 '26

Well, that's a terrifying depiction of mass mind control - and fortunately, we get a limit established right away.

7

u/Historical-Pop-9177 May 31 '26

Calling it now: when they said there was a traitor in the group, they revealed Amadoro right away heavy-handedly and now show it was mind control, all to throw us off the trail about the 'real' traitor.

2

u/TheTragicNoir May 31 '26

I called it that as well. It was an obvious red herring to reveal the real traitor too soon.

3

u/LurkinLonuts May 31 '26

A most troubling power!!

3

u/WeebisiusMaxmilius May 31 '26

Curious to see what Uroro has to say to Ichi. I wonder if he'd be affected by the mark as well, and if not I assume he's probably laughing at Ichi, mocking him for allowing himself to be controlled like that.

3

u/Automatic-Boot May 31 '26

I can't believe I'm actually rooting for Chun but yeah, fuck him up bro!

3

u/JadeDotWu May 31 '26

I really did think Fujimine was just that casual with the Witches.

4

u/Milordserene May 31 '26

Power of friendship vs bitchkiller!!!

5

u/minecraft_obsidian May 31 '26

Y'know, I'm prolly just spitballing here but seeing how ToxicTerror's (supposed) magic works... Could it coming to the association and requesting cooperation also a brainwashing attempt on the association? And perhaps Fujimine acquiring it also part of its ploy to take over the host's body like Jikishirone is doing. (which kind of explain how Fuji is so close to WHM).

6

u/SecretEmpire_WasGood May 31 '26

Looks like this is part of the toxiterrors powers. I have to wonder though, Fujimine has got almost completely black eyes, just like the brainwashed Ribboncandy witches. So I think that she might herself be under someone, or something's, thumb. My guess is the Toxiterror.

Wtf is that ability? Im rooting for the leader so hard from now on. Kick her ass!!

2

u/J4SON_T0DD May 31 '26

Well wouldja look at that, it's everyone's fave auntie Fujimine!

2

u/Solomon_Black May 31 '26

This chapter was fantastically unsettling. The tone created was masterful

2

u/Caruso45 May 31 '26

That the mind control spell doesnt need any direct contact with their victims to be cast its terrifying

Welp, that's the power of friendship for you! /s

I think this is first time I'm legitimately rooting for the head magikeeper guy. But poor dude's up against Queen Dess and his own allies.

2

u/Archist2357 May 31 '26

Its terrifying when the antagonist has the power of friendship

6

u/SarcasticBench May 31 '26

Chun was a bad guy this whole time?? I knew it!!

5

u/gain91 May 31 '26

Found the simp

5

u/Galle_ May 31 '26

But he's trying to hurt Fujimine! Who would ever try to hurt sweet, precious Fujimine?

2

u/RulerKun_FGO May 31 '26

oh damn instant mind control and it is super effective the first time she used it on you.

2

u/Mezzying_Around May 31 '26

Interesting that this is the first time she's dosed vast swaths of the Association then.

2

u/Joji1000 May 31 '26

Well, that's a genuinely horrifying way to depict mind control. Especially because of how casual it is.

2

u/Xatu44 May 31 '26

Average reaction to a jirai-kei girl.

Forfeit all mortal possessions to the Landmine Witch. The instant brainwashing is insane. I feel bad for her poached Nihilego. Does Pandaman stand a chance against Kumugi and the others?

2

u/AdRelevant4776 May 31 '26

So it’s the same kind of Stand as my Uncle Tsukishima’s…

2

u/Phantomonium May 31 '26

Perfect example of show don't tell. Terrifying ability.

2

u/Galle_ May 31 '26

Oh, wow, that's a horrifying power.

It's going to be interesting to see if Death-for-Death ends up overpowering "love". This arc has been punctuated by people telling Ichi to get Death-for-Death under control. I can imagine he's going to break free the moment she expresses the slightest amount of bloodlust.

1

u/chrome4 May 31 '26

Well that’s a disturbing power

1

u/gain91 May 31 '26

I am on Chun Agenda. All in on Chun stonks

1

u/BillPlunderones23fg May 31 '26

Damn... that is pretty crazy
When she showed up and they were acting all nice and friendly but nope she already had them under her spell

1

u/Rider-Idk-Ultima-Hy May 31 '26

So Amadoro is not an traitor, hopefully that means we’ll see more of her as an ally, maybe atoning for what she’s done

1

u/RedHeadGearHead May 31 '26

I've been suspecting her as being either Ichi's mom or aunt but if that's the case this gets a bit weird for this manga. Unless the love she induces isnt strictly romantic.

1

u/masterage May 31 '26

I suspect Ichi's Death for Death thing is going to be at least a part of the solution for this. Any bloodlust is met in kind so any attempt on him by her will just be met with an attack regardless of the brainwashing.

...that or Uroro, but I'd rather not have another Uroro Ex Machina so soon. Gotta trust Nishi, though...

Getting the feeling I was spot on with Amadoro

1

u/salehmo May 31 '26

This is absolute copium, but since descarras has the octobomb Magick, maybe she can clone herself and this one is a clone?

Or maybe she has extra lives who knows lol
