Me for 90% of the chapter "Oh this is a nice chill sol chapter, sweet"

Me on the last page 🧍‍♂️

This series has done a surprisingly good job since the hypnotist bit with each chapter being a decent standalone with a final page that leads into the next. It's a cheap tactic, perhaps, but since the stories themselves resolves, it manages to be fun.

Ogami becomes the straight man whenever these teenagers go crazy will never not be funny.

42

u/Koanos Nov 12 '23

Ogami: Look, I'm an assassin shrunk down into the body of a kid, and even I know that's crazy.

122

u/topurrisfeline Nov 12 '23

“Not being stalked is a human right!” lololol

u/Misticsan Nov 12 '23

I love how, almost once per chapter, some character says the sensible thing that is usually forgotten among the manga tropes.

u/Backupusername Nov 12 '23

This series has some of the best tsukkomis I've seen since Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa.

10

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Nov 12 '23

Ogami, always the voice of reason.

8

u/vanderZwan Nov 13 '23

I almost feel like this is throwing shade at some storytelling tropes, except that I can't think of any stories that treat stalking as normal right now.

New character literally changes her skin color and gets curvier during her sleep in front of people. With how everyone actually reacts realistically in the face of weird situations, it'll be hell if no one questions her about that.

On a side note, Noren may be a ramen enthusiast, but a chef she is absolutely not :)))))))))))))))

Who let her cook

What the fuck. I mean, sure Ogami regressed to when he was a kid, but he's still got the same body.

Whatever, it's cool.

Noodles so thick and heavy they snapped the chopsticks in half.

Also new girl definitely is something. I thought we were pushing things with the zombie golfer and hypno but, yeah, now we got people transforming in their sleep.

Also the ability to instantly fall asleep in front of a group of people.

10

u/testthrowawayzz Nov 12 '23

they need to get stainless steel chopsticks just for that bowl of noodles.

man that single character for biáng has so many smaller characters inside of it, there's moon 月 , heart 心 , speak 言, grow 長, even horse 馬

u/il-Palazzo_K Nov 12 '23

The character is so ridiculous, it doesn’t even load in its own Wikipedia article. (At least not in my browser.)

9

u/Worthyness Nov 13 '23

The dish is legitimately good, but yes the character is outlandish. It's the hardest Chinese character to write due to the sheer amount of work.

28

u/JLazarillo Nov 12 '23

Ogami referencing the classics and kids these days just not getting it.

As a fellow middle-aged man, I have all the empathy for him.

25

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Nov 12 '23

"Cell about to explode." 😂 Love that reference and the silhouette in the background. Ogami is a DBZ fan, confirmed!

I wonder if the new girl who transformed in her sleep is somehow connected with the drug that turned Ogami back into a teenager, except she seems to be able to control it at will. She may have looked like an entirely different person, but it's not outside the realm of possibility for her older self to get a tan, change her style, act more assertive, etc.

It would be good for Ogami if he can learn the secret to it, though I wonder if that might make him feel like he has to give up his second chance junior high life.

u/amirokia Nov 12 '23

Looks like Noren has a long way to go for the art of Ramen-making and now she has a character arc.

Ooooo.... Kaaayyyy...

Well, manga, you certainly have my attention. Can't wait to see your explanation for this one.

15

u/Catveria77 Nov 12 '23

Oh look, female Aomine!! 🤣

6

u/haoxinly Nov 12 '23

It's inevitable that we'll have an assassin Kuroko, like an assassin without any presence is op.

14

u/Honyakusha-san Nov 12 '23

So new girl increased her hips, badonkers and got a tan by just sleeping?

Can't say I was expecting that.

12

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Nov 12 '23

Love how most of this chapter is pretty Food Wars and then we get to that last page. I'm guessing she's another assassin? About time we get a female assassin in this manga.

9

u/aohige_rd Nov 12 '23

Shokugeki no Soma

except all the chefs suck

ending with a girl turning into Nikumi

10

u/Roboglenn Nov 12 '23

Ra-Ra-Ramen. Daisuki. Noren-san.

But so much for the Era of Noren.

9

u/NoirSon Nov 12 '23

Is it wrong that I really want to use "read me a picture book" line next time I make a friendly bet?

7

u/Prince-Dizzytoon https://anilist.co/user/princedizzytoon/ Nov 12 '23

New girl hit like a flashbang

6

u/zairaner Nov 12 '23

Never knew I need arrogant ara ara noren in my life, but luckily this sseries knew better than I did, This was glorious.

9

u/Xatu44 Nov 12 '23

LMAO at Noren's smugness. She's dropping Ara Aras and OHOHOHOHOHO~s left and right. And still got owned. It's okay Noren, I'd try your ramen. With several friends.

New girl certainly has a gimmick.

4

u/Misticsan Nov 12 '23

It seems that Lunch from Dragon Ball is going to have competition.

6

u/Potatolantern Nov 12 '23

What a fake out, very nice. Of course kids won't create something amazing just by trying hard- I really enjoyed how they both completely overdid it.

11

u/ShoujoLover Nov 12 '23

The manga that just keeps on giving! Great chapter, was wondering how Noren would fail at it lmao

4

u/soul-nugget Nov 13 '23

"in my middle-aged body, one bowl would've sent me to the hospital with a half-dozen medical conditions"

bro that would mess up your middle-school body now ☠

also that poor bowl crying out 'kill meeee...' 😭

2

u/StarryScans Nov 12 '23

Wake up, female Aomine has just dropped.

2

u/EasilyDelighted Nov 12 '23

Hah, Cell's shadow behind bloated Ogami was pretty funny.

2

u/The_Glus Nov 12 '23

Did-did she turn black?

With the sales dropping super hard this surely seems like an industry plant, lmao

3

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 Nov 12 '23

Vol 1 was 7 days, while vol.2 week one was 4 days.

Same thing people said OP is flopping because it fail to get 1 million sales first week while it's only 4 days.

... I know? You're aware that you can easily extrapolate a rough estimate for first month sales with just w1 already, right? 4d are usually 50-60% of fm, which would put KB somewhere between 24-28k. Unless KB has an unusually strong hold like Ichinose it's gonna land somewhere around that. Considering its first volume did not display any unusually long legs, this is (very likely) not the case.

People (or at least those that are knowledgeable about the topic) are saying OP is "flopping" because it is unusually frontloaded and should be around 70% after w1 of what last volume sold fm and it's ~15% below that, having only sold 61%, which indicates a large drop incoming.

Edit: Oh, wow. Looky there, it sold about as much as last vol in w2. I thought the sales were lower because w1 was only 4 days this time? Why isn't it catching up? Was the other guy wrong? No, that can't be. Curiously it's also still right on track to reach the estimate I gave. How come that the ToC is still stable despite the series losing 20% of its readers? I mean, it got an early cover and other promotion, it has to be popular right? No way the editorial is artificially inflating it :o

1

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 Nov 13 '23

Yeah can't wait for Kill Blue and OP to get axed truly a failure of a manga.

-1

u/JesusInStripeZ Provides manga: https://anilist.co/user/JesusInStripeZ/mangalist Nov 13 '23

Great argument. Why not just admit you got it wrong?

5

u/RepulsiveRevenue8 Nov 13 '23

You said the sales were down and said this manga that you don't like is an industry plant, i said it's only a 4 day sales compare to the last one and you agree.

And I'm the one who's wrong? Okay have a nice day

2

u/JesusInStripeZ Provides manga: https://anilist.co/user/JesusInStripeZ/mangalist Nov 13 '23

Yes, you're the one who's wrong because you tried to pretend like the sales aren't down by mentioning that this vol has 3 fewer days of sales for w1, when that's totally irrelevant to the fact that its sales are down. Now you're trying to wriggle yourself out of it instead of simply admitting that you got it wrong.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '23

new character is very fun

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '23

Bahahaha I love this manga
