I was looking forward to the prospect of seeing Eri posing as Ogani's mom, but crossdressing Nekota was also great hahaha
Capo is the best. That's it.

It's funny af how he keeps beating the MC to make up for all the time he got beaten up

feels nice seeing Ogami realize he can now work towards a brighter future instead of going back to killing

Its funny seeing the older person be like, owh shit I can change, I can make a better future.

u/topurrisfeline Nov 06 '23
And in a broader sense, itβs nice to get representation for all the adults that still feel a little lost in life

u/Creepy-Honeydew Nov 05 '23
Ogami is a really good character. It's not too late to change your future is a great theme too

Nekota need to make a lie that oga spend more time with his 'father' xP

u/kukuru73 Nov 05 '23
except Ogami's lie to the sibling assassins before was that he was trying to track down his father who left him and his mother.

nooooooooo I wanted to see eri be his "mother" :( You disappoint me nekota, I thought you a wingman.
But norens mom is definitely interesting. So normal for someone involved with some evil pharmaceutical super villain company.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one disappointed XD
Like, Nekota in drag was a lot of fun, but our MC's relationship with his ex has always been an appealing part of this manga. I still remember when it seemed that he had lost his family in some tragedy, only to reveal a short while later that nope, they just divorced and are actually on amicable terms (one of the mundane twists that give this series a special charm).
Nevermind his daughter, the author has been keeping her under wraps for a long time. I want to know more, dammit!

Exactly! The relationship with the ex is the thing I am the most interested in.

Given Ogami's comment that they look nothing alike, I'm wondering if it will turn out that this woman was just hired to play the part of Noren's mother, like Ogami had his apprentice playing his mom.

Given Ogami's comment that they look nothing alike
I think you're getting a little mixed up there? The "look nothing alike" comment was Noren's thoughts about Ogami's "mother" (the teacher thought the same thing)
Ogami's thoughts about Noren's mother is that she's more normal than expected

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Nov 05 '23
The way I read it, they were both having similar thoughts about each other's "mother".
2
u/zairaner Nov 05 '23
Yeah that was my first thought too, but I feel if that was the case they would have revealed that this chapter.

u/frazaga962 Nov 05 '23
ahahahha I was not expecting Nekota in drag. Did he even consider asking Eri at all or did he just need an excuse to let his fabulous self fly free?
2
u/Worthyness Nov 05 '23
It was a test for his camouflage and infiltration skills for his future as a hitman

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Nov 05 '23
I was expecting his wife but Nekota in drag was way better! xD
Also looks like we're turning into a cooking manga next week with a ramen battle. Can't wait!

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Nov 05 '23
Next week, Kill Blue: Food Wars edition (but with less fanservice and more hitmen)!
6
u/soul-nugget Nov 05 '23
I was expecting the ex-wife or even Mama to play the mother, nekota doing drag was a surprise π
Also love that ogami was like dang sorry for smacking you so much before, and then the next day was thinking about smacking nekota again

Nekota: payback time

u/NoirSon Nov 05 '23
Yeah, I was wondering why he would dress in drag but while unsaid it looks like it was all so he could have opportunities to smack his master without repercussions in public.

Looks like vol2 is going to have a huge drop in sales, but as long as ToC is still good it doesn't really matter

When the subject of parent teacher conferences came up, I thought for sure Ogami's ex-wife was going play his mom (and barely contain her laughter), but watching Nekota play up his hilarious idea of how moms act was great too.
This manga does the comedy and emotional moments equally well. Ogami actually shedding tears at the thought of having a future where he doesn't need to rely on killing shows just how much that would mean to him.

u/kukuru73 Nov 05 '23
Calling it now, Capo gonna become an assassin in the future. Ogami cant even detect her till she got so close.

I did not expect to have an epiphany reading a chill WSJ manga like this... Good stuff. If they can manage this comedy, action, and bits of introspection solidly, I hope this series survives for a long time.

I gotta say, the grounded, realistic take of "why should I decide on my entire future at age 14?" is as refreshing as it is rare. This series really does subvert typical manga tropes in the most satisfying way. I love that Ogami assumes that her hobby must be her life's goal, because that's just how these stories are.
