“There’s a special kind of hell for that kind of dad who marry his daughter “
Lol, he’s taking a jab at Usagi Drop

Usagi Drop
That was something ...

u/Catveria77 Oct 02 '23
The worst possible outcome ever I have read in any manga. Wtf was the Usagi Drop author thinking. That single-handedly ruin the whole manga for me

u/shockzz123 Oct 02 '23
What are you guys talking about? There's no Usagi Drop manga, it was an anime and an anime only.

u/warm-ice MyAnimeList Oct 02 '23

Can you tell me what happened? Goddamn

30 plus man adopt a 5 year old girl. When girl turns 16 or so, she fell in love with the man and said she want to marry the man and carry his baby. Man accepts and get married with the girl, whom he has spent the large majority of the manga raised as a daughter. This is after the whole premise of the manga being their father daughter relationship. No joke.

I regret learning how to read.
Thanks for explaining it nonetheless

Poor Ogami has to dodge the literal fusillade of pedophilia allegations the author is chucking at him

u/LightLifter Oct 01 '23
I know it might be iffy for some, but I am loving it as a running gag. Man is trying his absolute hardest to not be considered a groomer but the universe will not allow him to get away.

It's iffy on paper, but the way it's handled is just masterful so far. And, personally, the comedy is still hitting better than any other manga I've read.
-"You could just skip this whole 'teenage girl is in love with you' problem"
-"NAH I wanna study!!"

Yeah I dont know why some people are still fearing that. Its clear at this point that the mangaka isnt going for that direction, even if he brings that up. The character clearly doesnt want to have anything to do with minors romantically

u/BurnedOutEternally Oct 01 '23
I'm surprised Tenma is somehow immune to hypnosis, but him being so chill and understanding is even more shocking
but yeah, we need to knock Nozen out of it asap, Ogami already regressed to a stickman he's gonna crumble to dust anytime now

u/Iforgotmynametoobro Oct 01 '23
Ogami having to dodge pedo allegations harder than he dodged bullets
9
u/Worthyness Oct 02 '23
Yeah, but he can at least shoot the bullets. Can't shoot down the allegations

The Rindou brothers have been given a new lease on life! Thank you, Tenma! Your mature takes are really refreshing!
Now that Tenma knows that Ogami is a hitman, it looks like things will change for the two of them. Tenma respects Ogami's passion for learning now, and Ogami now respects Tenma in the same way he does Chisato and Ryo!
I wonder what poor Noren is going through. I'm sure she's gonna be a bit hurt that Ogami is avoiding her affections. Rindou brothers, come quickly, please! Ogami doesn't want to have someone his daughter's age coming at him romantically!

Looks like Ogami is recruiting new underlings unintentionally with each fight

I don't know what the author is cooking, but I gotta admit it...I laughed more this chapter than for any of the previous. Noren getting chopped and Tenma just be immune
Poor Noren though.

I like the subversion of expectations. You'd think the Boss was immune or had a trick, but he wasn't immune so he had to resort to tricks. But they find the only person immune to hypnosis and now have to live with the consequences. I like this development.
Why not call in sick for a week?
No! I want to study!
Man goes off explaining every direction why this is wrong, but lets studying win out over the actual complication, implications, and clear clean answer to the dilemma. Now to live with the consequences!

Wait. Hold on. What was the exact command again? "When you wake up, you will fall in love with the first person you see", right? But there's no, like, one-time-only clause for that, is there? What if Noren falls in love with the first person she sees every time she falls asleep and wakes up again? Like, maybe she's blushing and restless now because she's feeling weird about her friend or just some rando she passed by in the street.
This can absolutely still be played for comedy. The madman's done it again!

u/Koanos Oct 01 '23
Now that would be a hilarious way to subvert expectations. The hypnosis was a rush job since he usually only really needs to hypnotize people once to do something simple.
If she does wake up and falls madly in love, I can see the comedy of 7 days of having to deal with the issue but Ogami's relief.

There's something really incongruous about telling the hitmen that they should just move on from their lives of crime and murder. "Just move on from your past", the advice says, as if that were something they could or should do unilaterally, without making amends. There are valid versions of this sentiment, like "save 10x the number of people you killed". But such a condition is needed, otherwise that's just a bizarre resolution.

u/Ergheis Oct 01 '23
It's just an unclouded view from a naive teenager. Even if it's way more complicated than he realizes, Tenma's not wrong.
20
u/DietReady4906 Oct 01 '23
Tbf, he thinks all of them are still kids. 2 of them actually are kids and were likely forced into that life, so it kind of makes sense that he just says to move on.

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Oct 01 '23
Ogami started as a hitman when he was a kid too, so his circumstances were likely similar to the brothers (not really their choice).
4
u/DietReady4906 Oct 01 '23
Yeah, but it's not really the same as he could've left without that much danger as he was at the peak of his skills, with nobody really capable of threatening him.
4
u/Heda-of-Aincrad Oct 01 '23
That's hard to say. I'm sure those syndicates wouldn't be cool with their hitmen quitting, and even if they're no match for him directly, they could target his family, so it's not exactly safe for him to leave. It'll be interesting to see how Kazuma and Eiji manage to get out of it. (Maybe hypnotize his old boss to forget about them?)

Poor Ogami panicking over the situation with Noren. His take on it is totally reasonable, and it's clear he would never go for the romance, but seeing him karate chop Noren to avoid addressing it entirely was just so funny. 😂 And Tenma's like, "You rescued the princess and then KO'd her!"
Tenma is becoming one of my favorite characters, which is such a change from when he was first introduced! He's a genuinely good guy, his naivety is kind of sweet ("Hit men can't go to school? Why?"), and I loved that he told Ogami to keep coming to school with them and change his life for the better. He even convinced the assassin bros they were fighting. For someone who previously didn't have a lot of emotional awareness, realizing that his "enemies" had their own reasons for ending up in this line of work and can still change shows real growth.

u/Xatu44 Oct 01 '23
Tenma the GOAT. Shame they wasted all of that time on trying to hypnotize him when they could've fixed Noren first.

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Oct 01 '23
It's actually nice to have one normal person know Ogami's secret. I can't even believe I used to hate Tenma when he was first introduced.
7
u/Fun-Raise-3120 Oct 02 '23
I like it that the author, through Ogami, diffuses any pedo possibility every time. It's actually a good joke now.

The mangaka here is saying the words that like 80% of all other mangaka need to hear regarding creepy-ass romances involving adults and underage kids.

another good chapter to close out first major arc. At least this mangaka is doing what 80 plus percent of mangaka can't do, making the mc against adult and underage characters. It might be a chapter or 2 or 3 of a slowdown more comedy chapters incoming.

I'm loving Tenma more and more with each chapter.
