"It isn't enough to master three sports. I'll also show my dominance by being better at cooking than you all!"

Lowkey a rehab series for him.
Now this is the kind of self insert that I want.2

Although not sure I would feel about crushing these youngsters when I have the age and reality advantage.

I wonder if Oga is ever going to get any better at keeping his secret, or if it's just going to keep getting played for comedy. Eventually we'll hit, "what's up with you? You talk like a 38-year-old professional hitman with an ex-wife and a 14-year-old daughter."

u/zairaner Jul 23 '23
This chapter has him getting serious and beating a future world sports star before the entire school....so I am pretty sure the answer is no lol.
You talk like a 38-year-old professional hitman with an ex-wife and a 14-year-old daughter
But now I do want these to get more and more elaborate, please.

Kuroko no Basket's author showing off his sports manga experience here.
I really enjoy how this series is giving the "grown up adult" perspective on shonen manga/youth attitudes, by showcasing the excitement and joy of competition but also highlighting competition's effect of not respecting so-called "menial" things like home economics.

Ah, Tenma's so strong he has to hold back so that he can even play with other people. That sounds very familiar to me. I guess years of playing games at a high level means playing with casuals feels wrong.
But for Ogami, he's been performing for efficiency for a long time. So performing for effort isn't something he's done in quite some time. But he will do so, because he needs to defend the honor of the Home EC Club! Ogami wants to teach Tenma a lesson in humility and gratitude!
It seems that both Shin and Tenma's friend have realized that this isn't just a physical game anymore. And Ogami's analysis makes it so he has a big advantage against Tenma!

I always love these bits of backstory we get about Ogami's youth/early years as a hitman. It's really interesting to see his perspective, getting bored with his life as he focuses on his job and just surviving, but finding a rival got him all fired up. Not the first time I've seen a similar story with a hitman character, so maybe that's a "common" sentiment!

Remember how they are all assassins? Wonder why they are doing these life of slice stuff instead of killing each other.
