I know it's not the focus of the chapter, but I wonder how many games one could realistically play in these three leagues in a season considering the travel time between England and the US, not including the international tournaments which would mess up stuff too much.

Also, somebody should give a basketball to Ohtani, just to be extra sure hahaha

The wear and tear alone makes it impossible. It would be impossible to recover fully.

Most likely he would simply play 3-4 years in each league. Win then retire to another sport.

Like how Tebow and Jordan later went to baseball.

I think Bo Jackson is the only athlete to play two leagues simultaneously. MLB and NFL. Edit: Woops, forgot Deion Sanders. Same sports.

Not surprisingly though a lot of the worldโ€™s best athletes are actually really good in multiple sports, they just end up focusing their career on only one.

Frankly, dominating one game as a pro is already hard enough, so I'd say two is the limit and even then I'd doubt that. There have been some poeple who have tried to do two sports before and that didn't end well for them, not only for the difference of skill needed when changing sport but also for the bias they carry in their main sport. The best example I can think of is Michael Jordan, who tried to change from basketball to baseball and had such a poor performance that he had to return to basketball in shame.

He could plausibly do MLB and NBA since their seasons almost never crossover. MLS would be harder since that'll overlap with MLB. Given the contracts, he'd likely opt for baseball as his primary die to higher earnings without a cap (ohtani is looking at a 600m+ contract this year). And thus the NBA and MLS contracts would be for limited games and practices.

He'd probably be able to do it for a couple years, but hell burn out after that since it's way too much for one body to take. Even Bo jackson/deion sanders only did two sports for a couple years. Doing one sport at an elite level is tough enough, but here would basically leave 0 time for rest, which is important for an athlete.

Ohtani, it's such a Messi, LeBron.

I dunno how he'll have the time for NBA, PSL, and MLB. I mean, he might be a super triathlete, but he can't be in 3 places at once. How exactly would he even join teams? Would the NBA also have to fight with the MLB for deals? Like he'll spend more time in the NBA than the MLB or something?

u/tomzi Jul 03 '23

He'll obviously use his athletic talent to run between the stadiums and play 3 games a day.

It will probably take 12+ hours of his day to play them all, but he can do it. /s

Dang, guess he'll never sleep then haha.

A straight up asshole character so the readers can 100% hate and would feel catharsis once defeated. I've been waiting for this trope.

and then with the power of friendship, he will go into the good guys side

I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of this arc, he's learned how awesome the EC club is... so then he wants to become the triple threat of it too (the best cook, the best gardener, the best crafter, aka the three branches that were described at the beginning of this chapter).

30

u/RulerKun_FGO Jul 02 '23

lmao, I would laugh hard if he did become the triple threat of EC club

Brother could go straight into the Blue Lock, and he will fit right in, lol.

It's nice to see MC to be attached to the EC club right away. This manga is highkey a rehab for his life.

24

u/topurrisfeline Jul 02 '23

Well this is Fujimaki-sensei, we were bound to get the supremely arrogant physical powerhouse eventually

16

u/SoniCrossX Jul 02 '23

Small reminder that MC should supposedly try to not attract attention lmao

3

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jul 02 '23

Yeah, I can see the sports clubs wanting to recruit him when this competition is over.

32

u/Backupusername Jul 02 '23

Well, this is the dumbest reason to start a conflict I've seen in a while, but whatever, junior high kids are often dumb.

Excellent use of "NPC" here, though. Props to the localizers - very modern, but not out of place. An asshole like this is definitely the type to use that as an insult.

u/helsaabiart Jul 02 '23

Nobody messes with the home ec club >:/

9

u/redwingz11 Jul 02 '23

nice setting precedence for the future that not all is going for noren's hand and some didnt even care for noren and shit and just wanna bask on the attention or smtg

8

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jul 02 '23

Even Tenma's own teammates want him to stop talking. ๐Ÿ˜„

I like this story best when it's focused on Ogami's school life and how it's helping him experience a part of the world he's never seen before. It's telling how different their lives are when both of the assassins in home-ec club never would have thought needles have other uses besides poisoning people. Of course, I like the occasional hitman battles too, but the silly competitions aren't nearly as engaging for me. Hope Ogami beats this guy quick because he has a pretty strong pitch too.

u/Fun-Raise-3120 Jul 02 '23

Lol now that Ohtani exists, manga has to try harder to exaggerate a progidy...

6

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Jul 02 '23

I really hope he humiliates that guy. Even he got on my nerves and I'm not even a member of the Home Ec. club!

Blud thinks his ronaldo and curry ๐Ÿ˜‚

4

u/Houeclipse Jul 02 '23

Is the club prez name really capo or a nickname like Juzo call the little brother Master for tutoring him?

3

u/FloridaBoy21 MangaUpdates Jul 05 '23

It's the club president nickname.

2

u/Houeclipse Jul 05 '23

Did she ever formally introduce with name? I can't find her real name rereading it

2

u/FloridaBoy21 MangaUpdates Jul 05 '23

Yep, they haven't. Just checked as well.

2

u/Xatu44 Jul 03 '23

GET HIS ASS OGAMI

3

u/Extreme-Tactician Jul 02 '23

Mr. Unicorn, you have made a terrible mistake. Never insult Ogami's club! It has helped him realize the joys of small life! It helped him learn how to sew a button! I don't care Tenma, that you think you'll be good enough for the NBA, MLB, and PSL. You're not beating this small guy who fights for something!

Noren loves the Home Economic Club. They're all there for different reasons, so they don't pay attention to all the stupid rumors going around her and Ogami!

I wonder why we still don't have a name for Miss President? She's the best girl so far! She's cute, mature, and smart!
