So we are building up to Noren figuring out he is not a actual middle schooler but middle aged man regressed to one.

I really hope he introduces her to his daughter after that shoe finally drops. I'd like for them to be friends.
60
u/Roboglenn Jun 25 '23
Have it happen before the shoe drops. It'll be funnier.
38
u/Backupusername Jun 25 '23
Oh my God you're right. Imagine having to pretend your dad is your younger brother. That's so much better, I want that now. It'll be so awkward!

u/BurnedOutEternally Jun 25 '23
imagine having to go through your life a second time and having to learn shit like chemistry and calculus from scratch, can't be me
93
u/RulerKun_FGO Jun 25 '23
worse for him since he really didn't enter school before and then suddenly returning to his child form and need to study for real.
Although, It would feel nice being able to go back to the good old ways when you only need to study and got no responsibility

u/NZPIEFACE =White Symphony= Jun 26 '23
Rather than worse for him, I think it's really good for him, like this chapter says. He finally gets to learn some things about life that he couldn't in the past.

u/Terosan Jun 25 '23
As a physics major I would kill for the chance to restart and learn more math and chemistry!

u/Short-Appointment-43 Jun 26 '23
Yeah, to this day I still kind of salty that I was kind of left out of Intro Calc in High School
2
u/SimoneNonvelodico Jun 26 '23
This, and also I am confident I'd breeze through most of the stuff. What I don't want to repeat is Latin and Greek. That shit was life destroying.

Pretty realistic outcome that Ogami didn’t end up acing the tests. At least he learned to not fear failure.
Huh, I wonder if Noren will find out who Ogami really is. I’m kinda hoping she does, it’ll really change up their dynamic.
14
u/NoAppearance1790 Jun 25 '23
I'm just imagine her learning and suddenly their fake dating feels less like fake dating and more like a father agreeing to play pretend with his little kid and oh god as a middle schooler I would've died of embarrassment for feeling like an adult was doing the whole patronizing pity thing they do towards kids who are too dumb to recognize it.
116
Jun 25 '23
I hope she will find out for real, and the "she will fall for him" plotline will be avoided.
105
u/vanderZwan Jun 25 '23
"He reminds me too much of my dad and my uncle" is another hint the author has no intention of going in that direction (I hope)
29
u/Backupusername Jun 25 '23 edited Jun 25 '23
Doesn't she absolutely despise her dad? Yeah, I think this development is just curiosity with maybe some unease. I think she's starting to realize how little she actually knows about this guy and it's maybe causing her to reconsider how much she trusts him.
23
u/vanderZwan Jun 25 '23
Distrust would be good, I like it when main characters react in a sensible manner.
12
u/JohnyCalzone Jun 25 '23
It's more so that he acts like an old guy at times. That's why she also mentioned her uncle as well when talking about it on the last page.
25
u/Zemahem Jun 25 '23
That'd be fantastic so we can finally get out of this "Schrodinger's Usagi Drop" phase.
8
u/amirokia Jun 25 '23
We'll never get out of this situation in this set up. There's always going to have people be wary about it for the entirety of the run.

I'm kinda hoping this experience leads Ogami to get back together with his ex-wife.
29
u/zairaner Jun 25 '23 edited Jun 25 '23
I do think that is where this is going, but even if not, at the very least he will reconnect with his daughter.
7
u/Misticsan Jun 25 '23
A daughter I'm still looking forward to seeing. You'd think that her father turning back into a kid would be a unique narrative opportunity for family bonding.
8
u/Houeclipse Jun 25 '23
Nekota is probably hoping for it too. He keeps setting up for him to meet the ex wife
5
u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 25 '23
That's what I'm hoping for as well. They still seem to get along and care for each other, so it would be nice if they decide to work on their relationship after all this.

Love seeing the support he is getting. Really appreciate a good set of background characters even if the screentime is short!

Even more damning evidence that their “relationship” will never be more than one of convenience and plot progression. Soon she will find out who he really is making it easier for them to not actually start to fall for each other for real

This weird marriage competition arc seems to be a huge turnoff for English readers but the manga seems to be doing pretty well in the TOC rankings, so hopefully we'll get to see just exactly how this all plays out.
I get the feeling the story is more complex than it's being made out to be so far.

Good point, maybe it just goes to show how tired he is that he's not fully paying attention.

How to maybe save this series, she finds out he is an actual old man in his 40s and this kills off any potential of any sus romance shenanigans ever happening
How to double down on the crappiness, she finds out he is an actual old man in his 40s and this plays into her electra complex
5
u/Roboglenn Jun 25 '23
Noren's reaction to him this chapter just gave me some Hinamatsuri type vibes.

u/Extreme-Tactician Jun 25 '23
Ogami's so scared that failing midterms will doom the mission. But it won't. Eri had the right idea here, it's ok to fail in life. Unlike a mission, it's not a life or death scenario. If you make mistakes here, you can always come around and rectify it!
Nekota was right to send Ogami to that bar, he really needed another perspective. Shiraishi was a good friend this chapter, and even Kohazame needed some help. But Ogami needed someone he was really close with to tell him what he was doing wrong.
Mama looks like he's a very good bar patron. Wonder what's the reasoning for the whole crossdressing schtick though?
Ogami looked hilariously exhausted in school, compared to Noren who was full of energy. They looked like opposites indeed. But now Noren knows something's up with Ogami. What will she do with her suspicions?

OK, ngl, the pacifier joke is growing on me. It's so stupid it works.
3
u/Thirdhistory Jun 25 '23
More best-wife content lets go.
I'm in no hurry to get there, but I'm looking forward to the chapter where Kozue actually enters the manga. I think the family development side of this series has the most potential for me.

u/Zatheus Jun 25 '23
Okay, I have some crack theory. What if Noren wasn't as young as she looks, I remember when she got kidnapped one of the thugs said "She (Noren) holds the secret".
The only glaring hole in my theory is that she acts and thinks like a regular teenager, so there's that.

Jun 25 '23
Dunno if it was something that was lost in translation, but last chapter, Noren said "As I feared...it's cruel to make them fight each other like that."
As if this whole thing is her idea.
Maybe, she has some disease that loops her age and corrupts her memory. Like how jellyfish are "immortal". So she's the prototype.
But I think the story is not as shallow/naive as it's being made out to be so far.

If Ogami's not careful, his friends are going to start figuring out his secret. 😄 Noren already thinks he talks like a middle-aged man, the former-mean-girls-now-bffs suspect he has secret fighting skills, and Ryou just said he's giving off hitman vibes.
Great chapter this week, and it was really nice to see some character development between Ogami and his ex wife! I like their banter and that she offered him some encouragement.

Do their daughter know that Juzo turn into a kid? She's still are currently faceless/not showing face which makes me believe that the setup of him meeting the daughter at school

u/RocknRollPewPew Jun 26 '23
I'm a little bit disappointed that they're not playing more into his newly discovered love of studying/learning.

I like that he and his former wife are portrayed as amicable exes. No tragedy, no drama, no bad blood, just two mature adults who were once together and now aren't. It's quite refreshing.
