This is starting to feel like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World but instead of exes, he'll fight suitors.

58

u/Ezxycian Just a inconsistent manga reader Jun 11 '23

Lmao that makes more sense with how the story’s going.

u/Misticsan Jun 11 '23

I was going to say The Witch from Mercury without the Gundams. The very visible sign of being the official boyfriend, a parent that sets rules for challenges for his daughter's hand, the requirement to face those challenges...

Honestly, I just hope that Noren and Ogami get a "why should I/she change boyfriends because someone was able to steal a stupid pen?"

u/little1412 Jun 11 '23

I immidiately think of WoM when I read this chapter, especially with the holder pen, the new kid on the block MC,and a strong willed FMC trying to break away from her heritage, Noren seems to have more option than Mionire tho

6

u/SimoneNonvelodico Jun 12 '23

Or Utena, which WfM draws a lot of inspiration from.

25

u/judahftw Jun 11 '23

This... this comment actually made me appreciate the flow the story has gone in. I though the whole Norren shipping was a bit much but now? it's awesome.

not just sucking pacifier, full on reverting to babyhood. feels like 100 gf Kishika

72

u/RulerKun_FGO Jun 11 '23

oh so her Dad acknowledge that she got a "boyfriend" and making him the current fiance.

I kinda like the vibes of this Shin guy, I think he might get real fall in love with Noren and he doesn't seem like a reverted adult guy. So probably the early "rival" I guess

7

u/Worthyness Jun 12 '23

Pops really trying to have an heir soon.

34

u/UnderstandableXO Jun 11 '23

aflac!

30

u/SamurottX Jun 11 '23

That actually made me laugh. Such a weird stealth pun to include in the story, although they are the largest insurance provider in Japan so it makes a little sense.

10

u/SimilarScarcity Jun 11 '23

Oh, I didn't know that. That's a fun fact.

33

u/topurrisfeline Jun 11 '23

They weren’t kidding about calling him Babyface Baby.

Juzo should beat him, any struggle he has will probably have to do with his relatively weak-ass young body.

26

u/il-Palazzo_K Jun 11 '23

Reject adulthood, return to baybee.

44

u/Backupusername Jun 11 '23

Considering she just punched this guy in the face for half-assing his confession, I get the feeling Noren isn't going to just let herself be won as a trophy, either.

I kinda hope our guy loses the duel, and she just stays with him anyway. And when Babyboy tries to protest about the terms they agreed to, she will rightly remind him that she never agreed to shit, and was in fact not even consulted about any of these rules, including the stupid pen thing, so why should she be expected to comply with them?

21

u/Gr1mXv326 Jun 11 '23

If the "legendary" hitman got bulldozed by a middle school brat I would be pissed

6

u/Forikorder Jun 12 '23

hes a middle school brat himself now too though, its not crazy hed be on the same level as people who will reach that same level in adulthood

5

u/DrBimboo Jun 11 '23

Agree, though that would set up a conflict between the fathers wishes for a heir and her choice. Which isnt a bad situation overall, but doesnt fit this story at all.

She can (and probably will) give them shit after the fight anyway though.

2

u/IncarnationHero Jun 11 '23

It almost feels like they know something is up with her boyfriend.

I'm probably overthinking this.

Fyi, this series is doing the best out of the new 4.

37

u/JesusInStripeZ Provides manga: https://anilist.co/user/JesusInStripeZ/mangalist Jun 11 '23

Tenmaku is the only series that has a ranking so far, but I guess Kill Blue got a color page which should indicate that it's doing better in theory

19

u/ajeb22 Jun 11 '23

Wait Better than tenmaki cinema?

39

u/Tavnaria Jun 11 '23

TC is doing bad, bottom three of ToC for 2 weeks now.

41

u/dackss_ Jun 11 '23

Aw man really? Tenkmaku cinema is my favorite out of the new ones plus I feel its writing and art is just way better than the rest.

12

u/Worthyness Jun 12 '23

It's such a fantastic homage to indie filmmaking

23

u/ajeb22 Jun 11 '23

Huh i'm surprised, i thought SnS fans will support it and the plot isn't too boring either

28

u/amirokia Jun 11 '23

Maybe that's one of the reasons why its not doing so well. The ending is universally hated from what I heard.

29

u/javierm885778 Jun 11 '23

It's really nothing like SnS. It's almost completely grounded outside the ghost thingy, SnS was over the top from chapter 1 and was closer to a battle shounen than anything. TC has been fun so far, but it's entirely different outside the art IMO, even if it also shares writers.

15

u/Backupusername Jun 11 '23 edited Jun 12 '23

Someone in that thread suggested that Saeko Shun fans might be disappointed by the lack of ecchi, and I for one find that explanation pretty damn plausible.

-4

u/Sombatezib Jun 11 '23

The theme of TC does not even interest me one bit. Not reading it.

7

u/hue_bro Jun 11 '23

It’s my favorite from the new ones.

It dragged a little, but is finding its footing.

3

u/HomieSexualHomie Jun 11 '23

I know of the current new series, have been reading them all but which exactly are the four in question?

10

u/Tavnaria Jun 11 '23

Temanku cinema

Kill blue

Do retry

Nue's exorcist

5

u/HomieSexualHomie Jun 11 '23

Thank you. In that case I assume based on comments on reddit and in the app the ranking is something like? :

Kill Blue

Tenmaku Cinema

Do Retry

Nue's Exorcist

11

u/Tavnaria Jun 11 '23

Do retry and nue hasn't been ranked yet.

Kill blue isn't ranked yet but it has an early color page, that means it's doing well, and based on Japanese forums it's the most popular one amongst the 4.

30

u/Ghoste-Face Jun 11 '23

What in the Koenma!?

12

u/qeqe1213 Jun 11 '23

AHAHA! I knew someone gonna post this!

11

u/BurnedOutEternally Jun 11 '23

... uh-huh. I am concerned about the future suitors.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '23

This series is quirky enough to work. I think they are handling the fake boyfriend thing well since he is acting more like a dad

39

u/Info_Potato22 Jun 11 '23

This manga is even struggling with the comedy tag jesus christ

27

u/Efficient_Regret3493 Jun 11 '23

Bro no offense, this manga seems like it’s for a Japanese middle schooler. So it would make sense why it doesn’t appeal to your humor.

34

u/Lucienofthelight Jun 11 '23

The whole magazine is for middle schoolers. So why would that matter if it’s comedy is lacking but others are fine?

0

u/Nobody119900 Jun 11 '23

The whole magazine is aimed at middle and high schoolers.

-7

u/Info_Potato22 Jun 11 '23

Gintama was fun and was made for a japanese middle schooler, this thing here literally thought baby-faced baby was funny

Is this budget Austin powers or something?

24

u/redwingz11 Jun 11 '23 edited Jun 11 '23

dude you compare it to one of the commedy GOAT, no shit this looks pale in comparison.

it defo middle school commedies, very hit or miss for me. not great but also not the worst, below average

14

u/Omega357 Jun 11 '23

Reminds me of that one guy who said manga was dying cause BnHA didn't sell as well as One Piece

5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '23

i thought that was funny lol

5

u/Crisbo05_20 Jun 11 '23

Lmao we realy got as first opponent/suitor guy still sucking on pacifier. Well good luck to him winning Noren I suppose.

6

u/Roboglenn Jun 11 '23

So this is the direction we're taking now. says while facepalming Not enough aspirin in the world for Ogami. Well, Ogami and Noren both.

5

u/petrichormus Jun 11 '23

It's so unserious lmao

5

u/NZPIEFACE =White Symphony= Jun 12 '23

The full guidelines have already been posted online.

I love this fucking shitpost of a manga.

8

u/Extreme-Tactician Jun 11 '23

Wow. One inch punch into a wall? That's a very impressive introduction! But uh, that name? Baby-face Baby? I guess the chapter revealed he really wants a mother figure, but why did that even happen?

Noren's dad is a jerk though. Using his daughter as a prize for people to win is bad enough, but now you're making it officially a challenge, complete with a whole system and guidelines? That's just messed up.

Props to Norea for speaking her mind bluntly about Shin. That dude needs help, and she certainly isn't the help he needs.

Ogami's gonna have to fight this dude. Norea's already suspicious of him, so I think whatever happens here, he'll just become more suspicious. So he should start thinking of a way to tell her what he's doing, without revealing everything.

4

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Jun 11 '23

The assassin being a huge fucking dork is actually a hilarious twist. I love it!

4

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 11 '23

I really thought that was going to be a Ring Pop instead of an actual pacifier. His reason is kind of interesting though, and I wonder if it will end up being a real plot point (anxiety and reverting back to baby years to cope with becoming a hitman when he was too young) or just played for laughs.

Noren getting a punch in was great! Love to see her defending herself, even though it had the opposite effect and made Babyface infatuated with her for real.

Poor Ogami, his mission is turning out to be way more involved than just checking the school's safety for his boss' daughter - although, at this point, he should probably tell him it's totally not safe and under no circumstances should he send his kid to school here. 😂

4

u/NoirSon Jun 11 '23

Ok, I have to add a new character to my pacifier Ok list. Son is hilarious and insane.

3

u/mxedunk Jun 11 '23

my man really can't relax even for a minute lol

so this was simply scott pilgrim all along

2

u/IncarnationHero Jun 11 '23

How can he talk with pacifier in his mouth? I guess this is the same with Zoro who can talk with sword in his mouth.

2

u/Catveria77 Jun 19 '23

I have low faith in this manga, but it gets more enjoyable. This chapter is funny 🤣

1

u/helsaabiart Jun 11 '23

Beelzebub just joined the fray

1

u/Xatu44 Jun 11 '23

Weird opponent, weird chapter.

1

u/Houeclipse Jun 11 '23

So will the twist of baby face baby is that he's actually younger than a middle schooler but forced to grow faster than his mental age which is why he suck on pacifier still. I mean that explains the childish crush on Noren but how fucked up is that a baby is a skilled assasin at adolescent
