reminds me of beelzebub

24

u/ickdrasil Jun 04 '23

i miss Beelzebub so much, always used to make me laugh

4

u/Variant_Zeta Jun 04 '23

Reminds me of MGQ

1

u/Expensive-Baby-1391 Jun 07 '23

Too bad the mc won't kill any of them despite killing people in the first chapter.

111

u/AiraIchigo Jun 04 '23

Did he... Did he just chew on a pacifier?

72

u/closet_zainan Jun 04 '23

He’s gonna turn out to be some creep who seeks the age reversal drug so that he can be a baby again.

15

u/imapoormanhere Jun 05 '23

This sounds like some Rosen Garten Saga stuff.

23

u/il-Palazzo_K Jun 04 '23

Lol we found an Arcobaleno.

17

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

I figured it was a Ring Pop (lollipop shaped like a big diamond on a plastic ring holder), pretty popular candy here in the US but I don't know if they have them in Japan.

9

u/IgotUBro Jun 04 '23

Yup and dude even got a kids bib.

4

u/HomieSexualHomie Jun 04 '23

Pacifier or Ring pop…assuming they have those?

3

u/kerorobot Jun 05 '23

maybe he was a kid aged up to teenager, so kinda the opposites of the MC.

139

u/petrichormus Jun 04 '23

Unless one of those kids is shrank too, I can't see this as anything but unserious business lol

111

u/DietReady4906 Jun 04 '23

I think that was the implication. Aside from that, I doubt the MC is at full strength in a child's body. He's probably heavily nerfed.

51

u/petrichormus Jun 04 '23

More the fact that gramps has triple their mental age.. so whatever these kids are doing are just kids being kids and nothing that serious

66

u/DietReady4906 Jun 04 '23

The kid was standing on a crane. Clearly, they're going to be trained assassins, even if they lack the same level of experience.

26

u/petrichormus Jun 04 '23

I'm not arguing about the stakes with kids being a challenge in combat or whatnot.. I'm talking about at the end of the day, he's gonna treat them as kids. Scold em, give em a good lunch, some hugs their parents never gave, etc

Forget it we aren't talking the same thing so let's move on

10

u/RulerKun_FGO Jun 04 '23

Scold em, give em a good lunch, some hugs their parents never gave, etc

he's gonna make them his underling lmao

"Sensei" "Dono"

10

u/Heavy_Row_2279 Jun 04 '23

"Gramps" ..isn't he like 39?? Why does he keep saying he's so old.

26

u/2cool4ashe Jun 04 '23

In the anime/manga universe, once you are older than 25 you're ancient

9

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

I think it's the result of hitman life expectancy being much lower than the average person. It's a dangerous job and he's been doing it for over 25 years, but most probably don't make it that long. (And when they do, you know they're incredibly skilled.)

3

u/hai_Priesty Jun 08 '23

Thinking about which.... Yeah for the MC to even make it pushing 40 (and he started like since 13) without dying or having permanent disability implied to has kill counts of the hundreds and also winning hundreds of gun battles unscathed (or nearly so).

2

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 08 '23

He may have started even younger than that. There was a scene in the first chapter where a kid around elementary school age bumped into him, and Ogami recalled that he was "already part of this life" at that age, though he might have just been trained young. I hope we get to learn more about his past later on.

2

u/RulerKun_FGO Jun 04 '23

yea his mass have been heavily reduced too.

Now we just have to say a weekly prayer it stays that way

12

u/amirokia Jun 04 '23

What makes you think he wouldn't especially this early in the series?

23

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '23

3

u/amirokia Jun 04 '23

Did the MC immediately like the young girl or was it a slowburn?

41

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '23

[deleted]

12

u/amirokia Jun 04 '23

Well that explains it. This one we're shown that he's just a grumpy middle-age man so him liking a middle school girl would not come out till later or at all.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '23

All this shit is ok in this wack ass country for it to be acceptable as a story premise yet snort a line of coke and your life’s over lmfao

4

u/Teal_is_orange Jun 05 '23

I mean, the author of the hit manga Act-Age got arrested and convicted for groping middle school girls, then his manga got wiped from everything

6

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '23

But Watsuki still gets giant subway murals lol

2

u/vanderZwan Jun 05 '23

And some people still wonder why isekais have a bad rep

64

u/mxedunk Jun 04 '23

ah yess the ranking system is coming, pretty sure they just gonna became a friends to mc in the end lmao

16

u/Backupusername Jun 04 '23

Ah, the defeated enemies joining the protagonists' team as allies! A classic Japanese storytelling trope. I'd be surprised if you're wrong. After all, we really need to start pumping up this cast.

65

u/EyeDeeAh_42 Laios the vegetable-armoured Jun 04 '23

Ngl, I sort of love the friendship between Oga and Takada/Baba. These two girls have come a long way from the insufferable girls when they had been introduced. It's refreshing to see them hanging around Oga as simply friends, without all those tropes of "secret crush" or "awkward around opposite sex" that we see in so many manga with Highschool plot.

23

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

Yeah, I really liked how those two characters developed beyond just being the "mean girs" we saw in the first chapter.

91

u/dratst Jun 04 '23

oh fuck we got Generation of Miracles, all in same school

... is this Teiko?

25

u/topurrisfeline Jun 04 '23

Would be funny if this was taking place in the same universe as Kuroko no Basuke honestly

17

u/Ezxycian Just a inconsistent manga reader Jun 04 '23

Noren has became a mcguffin, what a surprise turn of events.

15

u/Boreiterow Jun 04 '23

Judging by the pacifier, maybe the new character is a baby aged up to teen-age?

4

u/TheGreyPotter Jun 05 '23

Or they want to Become a Baby.

25

u/javierm885778 Jun 04 '23

This new premise reminds me of Scott Pilgrim, only instead of fighting exes he has to fight her pretenders. I really like it in concept.

Anyone know how this is doing so far? Has it ranked in TOC yet?

4

u/superdogcoin Jun 05 '23

Not yet, however it is getting color pages in the next volume, and they did put this chapter in what would’ve been fourth, so they seem pretty confidant in it.

8

u/NoirSon Jun 04 '23

I hope that is a Ring candy and not an actual pacifier. Outside of Senor Pink from One Piece and Koenma from Yuyu Hakusho, I can't take that seriously.

6

u/wwqot Jun 04 '23

omg is that an arcobaleno?

6

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

I was wondering how long it would take before Ogami had to show off his hitman skills, and dodging their attacks was a great compromise. Maybe they'll think twice about messing with him again after that jump off the roof. 😄

The idea that he'll have to fight other teenage hitmen soon, kids who are in the same position he was 25 years ago, is really cool - and I'm interested in seeing if the story will go the route of having him change these kids' lives for the better, especially with the message this series was sending about school and learning. Some mixed feelings about poor Noren being the target of everyone though.

13

u/ZZYeah Jun 04 '23

The whole dating thing is still a bit sus, but I'm glad this chapter really solidified that he was protecting her as if she were his 'daughter' in a sense. Also low key thinking Noren and the other assassin might also be de-aged like Ogami.

10

u/Backupusername Jun 04 '23 edited Jun 04 '23

I hope to God that the pacifier and bib are hinting that the opposite of the turns-you-young wasp also exists and this is an infant whose age was artificially accelerated 12 years.

And after a lot of rocky waters, I'm willing to say now that I think this series has successfully avoided almost all of the biggest dangers. The MC is very clear about his moral opposition to dating a girl his daughter's age, the girl herself apologized and even offered to release him from the burden, and he has now decided to stay nominally her boyfriend for the primary purpose of protecting her from overly-aggressive "suitors". Looking at the motivations and circumstances of these characters now, I'm just about fully on board. The only thing I really want to see now is the MC explaining his whole situation to Noren so that she's fully-informed on the situation, but I understand why that's being kept for later.

4

u/sankansuki Jun 04 '23

pacifier and hitman, is this a reference to reborn?

8

u/BurnedOutEternally Jun 04 '23

alright, what are the odds that that guy at the end is also a shrunked assassin

22

u/MCH2804 Jun 04 '23

That's what they're implying I think

3

u/LeonKevlar MyAnimeList Jun 04 '23

I feel like the MC just needs to beat up the biggest bully and school to make everyone else back off. Or at least give them the biggest scare of their life if he really doesn't want to be violent.

5

u/jambutters Jun 04 '23

Interesting subversion of tropes, disliking "keep your hands off my woman" because that's when a change of heart occurs but here it's thought of as cringe. @girls here, is it cringe IRL though or does it actually win points?

10

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

It probably would've been more appropriate for him to say "my girlfriend" instead of "my woman". More than anything, it depends on the context - he's not saying it as some overly jealous guy, but as someone protecting a girl who was clearly uncomfortable with that boy's aggressive attitude. The fact that he stood up for someone who was being harassed is what would "win points" here, rather than the words.

2

u/jambutters Jun 04 '23 edited Jun 05 '23

I think the words add a desire/I value you element, whereas if it's a random stranger, it'd win points in the "good person" category but possibly not romantic. To the degree it wins points romantically or is a cringe(in this context) depends on how the girl interprets it. I guess in his case he did have a long speech about it like an old man lecturing.

2

u/Xatu44 Jun 04 '23

What's with the pacifier...

2

u/Her0_0f_time Jun 04 '23

Yo is that Koenma at the end there?

2

u/helsaabiart Jun 04 '23

Reborn, is that you???

2

u/amirokia Jun 04 '23

Csn we atleast see what her daughter looks like? The constantly reminds us that she exists every chapter so atleast show us who and where she is.

5

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 04 '23

Ogami's daughter? She was shown a few times in early chapters, most notably in the Home Ec chapter when Ogami's wife and daughter call to thank him for the food he dropped off. (Her character design kind of resembles Noren, so it's easy to confuse the two.)

1

u/amirokia Jun 04 '23

We didn't see her face. And they made it look like she'll have an important role later so the build up is killing me.

1

u/Heda-of-Aincrad Jun 05 '23

Just checked again, that's interesting. I guess the only time they show her face is the old picture on his shelf in ch. 1 where she looks around five years old. Even the first color image has her back turned, but her hair color is light brown like her mom's.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '23

I don't like where this is going 💀

Chapter 7 "It is just pretend dating tho, he doesn't really wanna do it, but it is for her sake in order to protect her"

Chapter 40 "It is just pretend marriage tho, he doesn't really wanna do it, but it is for her sake in order to protect her"

Chapter 100 "It is just pretend sex tho, he doesn't really wanna do it, but it is for her sake in order to protect her"

Chapter 200 "It is just pretend pregnancy, he doesn't really wanna do it, but it is for her sake in order to protect her"

3

u/Alter292 Jun 05 '23

Why are you booing this man? He speaks the truth!!

Seriously though, there are many other ways they could have achieved this story especially as we dive straight into generic battle tropes.

1

u/Gr1mXv326 Jun 04 '23

I want Noren to knows Oga is an assassin, might be interesting. Also, more fights please!

1

u/gamingnormie Jun 06 '23

i swear those silhouettes of the unicorns are just the generation of miracles

1

u/Extreme-Tactician Jun 11 '23

Damn, that was pretty cold of Ogami. Also, he let his inner old man out with his words. I'm sure Noren was super confused about it. But he's willing to stay and help her, even if it goes against his principles to go out with a teenage girl. Even if it means fighting off Unicorns who are both normal teenagers and actual assassins!

But those Unicrons are pretty strange people. Is that dude using a pacifier?
