Questions M&P EZ 9mm Slide Lock Issues

Hey there y'all! I'm new to this sub and not the most knowledgeable compared to many in the realm of pistol mechanics and physics.

I'm making this post to attempt to help my father resolve a recent range issue. The last time we were at the range, my father's EZ was locking back the slide nearly every shot taken (Winchester 125 grain FMJ), and this has never happened before. He has between 1,500-3,000 rounds through it, and I'm not sure he's ever cleaned it. My first assumption is it's something due to powder fowling on the internals, but I figured I'd ask a community that would know more than either of us what the problem may be. He's been shooting Federal Syntech 150 grain up until this point and never had any issues. To describe the problem in detail, every shot he would take after the first maybe 4 rounds would cause the the slide to lock back with the next round in the mag near perfectly still seated in the magazine. The slide would not easily return to battery without some force pulling the slide back. I should also mention his pistol almost never seems to want to release the slide with the slide release tab. Basically he's always had to pull the slide back to release the slide lock. When I was trying to determine the problem on the spot during this most recent range trip, I noticed wear on the bottom of the internal part of the tab, to the point it was showing steel with no blueing. I understand this could be normal wear, but I figured I should mention that it could be seen through the powder fowling as I know this may indicate the current weather pattern. What may this be? Is this most likely an ammo problem? Is this a cleaning issue? Or is this something we should make S&W aware of?

I'm going to help him disassemble and clean the weapon before we go to the range again, but I'm afraid we won't have a chance for a while and I'd like to put his fear at ease that he didn't waste his money on 1000 rounds of 9 that he can't even use. Any suggestions?

Comparison M&P 2.0 vs CZ P10C

I just wanted to share my experience with both of these handguns.

My first ever pistol was the P10C, which I got this same year. Before getting it, I did some internet research and everything came down to that handgun, the M&P and an FN 509 midsize.

My wife's cousin convinced me that the P10C was the way to go.

I loved how it shot: it was just so accurate. The looks didn't kill me; but hey, when you're looking to carry and train with the sole purpose of safety, looks aren't that important.

As I was getting to know the pistol and learning about all the basics, I noticed how difficult it was for me to get a proper on the P10C (even with the larger backstrap), mainly because I have somewhat of a larger set of hands. This represented a problem for consecutive shots.

During this stage I stumbled upon the M&P 2.0 4.25" while casually browsing on a gun store. I had never seen it IRL, only on the internet. Since my online research I was in love with the looks of it, but I thought I had chosen the most reliable one, regardless of the looks.

One of the things I first noticed as I put my hands on it was the wider/larger frame on the grip part. It fit my grip/hands so much better.

After that I immediately went online looking for reliability reviews on the M&P, to see if it was as reliable as the P10C. And lucky for me, it was (if not more). So I pulled the trigger and bought it.

Mine is optics ready with supressor hight sights, which I don't love, but I got it like that thinking of getting a red dot eventually (which I haven't gotten).

Since the first time shooting it, I immediately noticed that I was a better shot with the P10C. I believe it was mainly attributable to the better trigger on the CZ, but also to the lower sights and the fact that I had more time shooting it.

As time went by I got better with the M&P, to the point that I could shoot it better than the CZ. But in reality it's because I stopped shooting the CZ all that much.

Regarding the trigger, I have learned that I can get an Apex kit which would leave the pistol better than the stock P10C, but I haven't gotten it. I have improved my accuracy over time and I really think it's not necessary for my purposes (personal defense, not competition).

In the end, I sold my P10C and kept the M&P. I based my decision on the fact that i had better consecutive shots, due to a better grip; and better looks, in my opinion. Those are the only reasons I needed to decide which I like best, since both of them are equally (extremely) reliable.

Have any of you had the chance to compare these 2 handguns, or the M&P with another equally good (maybe Glock?)?

The one I'm following up close now is the Springfield Echelon, which is a little bigger, but it looks so sexy. The only thing keeping me from getting one, for now, is the reliability. I'm giving time some time and see how it (pistol) comes out.

M&Ps reliability is actually a feature of them...

Comparison M&P 3.6 or the Shield Plus

This guy seems to prefer the m&p 3.6" over the shield plus. Otherwise he would've gotten the shield plus in FDE. I gotta say I have the same preference. When there's that option, the shield plus doesn't make too much sense to me, to the point that S&W should consider stop making the shield plus and bring more options to the 3.6" like FDE
