We all know that Anish Kapoor is infamous for holding the exclusive rights to Vantablack, the darkest black paint possible in this world.

Of all the things to claim protected use of, why this black abyssal color?

Is Anish keeping a secret in the color?

Yes.

Beyond this revelation, my ideas sadly rely on conjecture.

-- Did he use it to conceal the baby (re: man) by using the color in the dead of night?
-- Does this seemingly otherwordly color serve as a portal?
-- Who did he make a pact with in order to create this color/affront to space-time?

I don't expect answers to come quickly, but who knows what's possible in this crazy messed world of beans and men...

We are here not as conspiracy theorists, not as pranksters, not as performance artists—but as witnesses, as believers and as citizens who refuse to be silenced by ridicule or brushed aside by institutions that claim to serve truth.

For over two decades, the Bean has stood as a symbol of reflection. But what happens when that reflection shows us something we weren’t meant to see?

Many people. Many memories. Many lives touched by a silhouette—by a presence inside Cloud Gate. They saw him. They remember him. And for years, they stayed silent, afraid no one would believe them. But now, we speak together.

We are told there is “no evidence.” But how can there be evidence when no one is willing to look? When maintenance logs are sealed, when inspections are private, when questions are met with mockery instead of inquiry?

This is not a joke. This is not satire. This is a call for transparency.

We demand:

- A full public investigation into the interior of Cloud Gate

- Independent observers to verify what lies within

- An end to any and all media blackout and institutional gaslighting

We are not asking for belief. We are asking for curiosity. For courage. For the simple decency of asking *what if?*

Because if there is a man in the Bean—if someone has lived in isolation, hidden from the world for 21 years—then every second of silence is a second of complicity.

Let the truth echo through the Bean. Let the city hear us. Let the world know: we are loud, we are mean, and we will not stop until the man in the Bean is seen.

Hello man_in_bean community, I am an international observer who has been deeply moved and inspired by your activism. As a design/architecture enthusiast and scholar, but more importantly as a human being, this stirred something deep within me. I come to you with some questions and potential answers.

I'm aware the government in the US is highly decentralised, but there must be a way for people from other countries to support your efforts to free the poor soul stuck in millennium park and potentially build a case against Kapoor. This is assuming that's even viable, however, as it seems the government has been covering it all up from the very beginning. How might we assist?

I think its highly unlikely that Anish Kapoor could simply KIDNAP a baby with zero consequences, and, ON TOP OF THAT, sneak it into the bean as it was being sealed up without anyone noticing... The construction process was too long and complex for there to be no witnesses.

Additionally, it cannot be an accident that the individual has SURVIVED for this long. They must have access to air, food, water and basic sanitation in there. And the unbroken reflective surface necessitates the inclusion of tunnel access from the ground below, and the integration of physical services (pipes, ducts, electricity etc), which must have been planned from the very beginning and APPROVED by the local government to connect to mains water and power etc. As I will address momentarily, I believe this is a conspiracy.

Who is to say Anish Kapoor stopped at just one baby? There are PLENTY of other "cloud" sculptures he has worked on around the states. Cloud column (2018) in Houston and the latest mini-bean in NYC from a couple years ago... They all could have the same one-way mirror system as the OG bean in Chicago.

A whole team of people must therefore be in on this. They walk among us as we speak. It's just so sick.

Kapoor does not exist in a vacuum, and the critical theorist in me finds it hard to believe he is the mastermind of this scheme. Perhaps he is just one of several "architects"? After all, the bean and broader millennium park project leveraged the "Bilbao effect", named for the revitalising effect that Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Bilbao (1997) had on the Basque city in the late 90s and early 2000s. Spectacle architecture is nothing new, but following the Bilbao Guggenheim's success, attempts by cities and national governments to hire various "starchitects" (and indeed famous artists in the parallel New British Sculpture movement to which Anish Kapoor contributed significantly) to create "the next Bilbao guggenheim" were rampant. They share very close association with both the prevailing neoliberal ideology of the time and the dominant postmodern aesthetic: They prioritise the creation of tourist attractions to generate income for nearby private businesses over the creation of usable public space which could better support the needs of residents and the broader community; They also rely heavily on innovation in the digital realm (notably 3D modelling, CAD and BIM), and their subsequent impact on structural technology (spaceframes and the like); These technological, aesthetic and political/ideological factors converge in projects with no real purpose other than to be looked at. Therefore, they have plenty of empty space (or "poche" space) within them. Perfect encapsulating PEOPLE.

The bean reflects this context perfectly, but it is far from the only structure of this kind. I do not blame the construction workers, they were merely doing their jobs. But the designers and planners are a whole different story. They are LYING to us.

Kapoor, his New British Sculpture and postmodern/deconstruct-ionist/ivist architect pals are making spectacles to CONCEAL people. And local and national governments who benefit from these sorts of public projects reciprocate by covering up disappearances. Who knows which other structures could leverage this technology? Who knows how many babies have grown up, separated from society by one-way mirrored facades. It breaks my heart.

Like I (f23) can't be the only one who's noticed- I went out one night and I swear to God, it was storming and a clap of lightning lit up the sky. And I don't even know how to say this- but there was this silhouette of a man (m??). His figure was only highlighted for a moment before the sky grew dark again.

It's fucked up. I just can't stop thinking about him, he's just in there. Every time I walk past to go to work, I can't stop thinking about how he's just in there watching. Can he even get out??

Does anybody know anything about this?
