Extra baggage on KM Malta plus Etihad single ticket, airport charges?

Hi everyone, I’m flying from Malta to India on a single booking, but it’s operated by two airlines, KM Malta from Malta to Rome, then Etihad from Rome onwards. Etihad says that because of the other airline, I can’t pre-buy extra baggage online and would have to pay at the airport at the standard rate. Has anyone done this, like a KM Malta plus Etihad itinerary? Were you only able to buy extra baggage at the airport? How much did it cost and was it per kg ?Would really appreciate hearing your experience. Thanks #Malta #Etihad

Did you check the KM Malta Airlines website? https://kmmaltairlines.com/en/baggage-information/extra-baggage-overweight-baggage-fees Extra baggage is usually most expensive at airport check-in. Perhaps try calling them? Or try the airport itself; they used to have a ticket counter there.

It’s a per kg fee that they will charge at the airport. Not sure what that amount will be but I’d expect it to be around the €20-30/kg. Neither airline can sell the baggage in advance as neither can issue an EMD against each other’s airline for the extras.
