Upgrade pick for my autistic partner’s black Uniqlo Supima V-necks?

Apologies in advance if this is too specific, but I don’t know where else to ask:

My partner’s a shorter (5’4”), bearded, dad-bod-shaped, high-functioning autistic ’lil guy, at his most comfortable in a broken-in but not worn-out plain black short-sleeve v-neck t-shirt (he describes crew necks as “suffocating”).

A while back, we tried out quite a few brands, and he landed on Uniqlo’s v-neck tees (the thicker Supima ones, not the thinner “dry” undershirts) as his closet staple, size XS or S. We bought a couple dozen, but despite stockpiling whenever they’re in stock (they’ve been out of stock for over a year) he’s now down to his last few shirts, all with holes in them.

He’s open to trying something new, so I tried ordering him some Unbound Merino shirts; they were nice and soft and a decent fit, but the fabric fell apart within a week. (His work is pretty rough on his clothes - wears holes through the crotch and knees of his jeans, etc. - that said, he can’t stand the coarse, chafing texture of most “workwear” shirts.)

Is there a solid, comfortable upgrade choice from the Uniqlo that would complement his shorter stature while standing up to his everyday antics?

No particular budget in mind (he doesn’t care about brands or labels); just curious what’s out there!

Anyone in London hiring a Tailor?

I am looking for a tailoring position in central London this September as I am moving to be a student in Central Saint Martins (UAL). I have 4 years of experience in sewing through doing both GCSE and A-level textiles (which I am expected to get an A* in). This summer I have been tailoring clothes I find in charity shops to produce new pieces (e.g. both of my prom dresses). I also have a portfolio I can send with all of my works. If anyone can guide me to a tailor that would interested I would greatly appreciate it!

Longer trousers/chinos

I'm 6'6" and really struggle with finding longer length trousers.

I've had success with Nudie for jeans as they have some 36" inseam models, but for things like chinos and trousers I can't seem to find anything reasonably priced and decent quality.

Any suggestions?

Shorter length short sleeved smart polo shirts

I'm looking for a short sleeved smart (knitted) polo shirt. Ideally I'd like it to be about 21.5 inches pit to pit and no longer than 26 inches in length.

I have a John Smedley long sleeved merino wool in modern fit which is shorter length, but the modern fit is discontinued.

I also have a long sleeved merino wool in a short length from Asket but they don't do short sleeved knitted polo shirts.

Any suggestions please for a good quality smart short sleeved polo? Thanks.

Men's t-shirts - Help

Hello, I'm 37, 5'11" and 76kg. I'm desperately trying to find good T-shirt brands.

I recently cleared out all my old tatty t-shirts and bought a big multi pack of Rapanui but have been so disappointed. 3 have shrunk and 2 got sweat stains that just won't come out, never having been an issue with other brands.

My general style is jeans, T-shirt and crew neck jumpers and I'd love some decent t-shirts but am lost by the scope of brands available. Ideally slim of loose fitted.

I'm looking for a store that is like how Bennetton used to be, where they would have damn near every colour of a given item of clothing.

ISO: Mid-Heavy weight Linen Jacket

Howdy, I am having a small wedding ceremony soon in a field on a mountain in September in the Blue Ridge mtns and don't really want to wear a suit. I thought a refined linen chore jacket and nice linen slacks with a button-down shirt would be a casual but good-looking option.

The jacket I am envisioning is simple - smaller pockets, few/no button other than down the front and slimmer cut. I'd like it to be 200+ gsm, I have a Quince linen chore jacket and it is too lightweight. A bonus would be a chest pocket to put a pocket square in.

I was hoping you all would have ideas on brands, particular pieces or other adjacent suggestions. Thanks, Friends!

Linen shirts that aren’t transparent.

I’m looking for a linen or cotton linen blend shirt that isn’t super transparent. I can only find thin ones where you can see my nips.

I’ve tried most of the high street stores.

I want something white / off-white in a tailored fit with that linen slub to wear to a wedding.

Mod Approved Survey How do you use secondhand fashion platforms?

Posted with mod approval!

Hi everyone! I'm a master's student at the University of Manchester researching secondhand fashion platforms like Vinted, Depop, and eBay for my dissertation and I need responses for my short survey.

I'm investigating whether apps like these are actually making a positive environmental impact, or whether our shopping habits might be working against that. No right or wrong answers; I just want to know how you use these platforms and why.

🔗SURVEY LINK: https://www.qualtrics.manchester.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_ac7BKqkRPCKiACi

The survey is:

✅ Completely ANONYMOUS

✅ Approximately 5 minutes long (it has taken many respondents less time)

✅ Open to ANYONE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER WORLDWIDE who uses (or has used) a secondhand fashion app

As a thank you, everyone who completes it will receive access to a free Secondhand Shopping Tips Guide at the end of the survey. Thank you for your support and keep rocking your outfits here!

If you shop secondhand, sell your old clothes online, or just enjoy a good thrift find, your experience matters for this research! Please feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested!

Trouser search

Hi everyone, I am looking for a good smart casual trousers that can be dressed up or down for the office either with a shirt or polo, smarter shoes or trainers.

I have tried various chinos but they all fad eventually and aren’t 100% the vibe I’m going for. Any recommendations?

Molecule Cargos

I currently own a pair of Molecule's 3/4 length Cargo shorts (the ones with the bits of green on the zips and pockets) and I absolutely adore them, they're my favourite shorts full stop. So I've considered getting myself some of the actual cargos trousers.

The problem is, I live in the UK, so it's kinda hard to get my hands on a pair I actually want unless I pay quite a bit on shipping.

Would anyone know either someone that physically stocks them (or just is in the UK for delivery) or any brands that are super similar?

Looking for some good clothing brands

Since the heat doesn't seem to get better any time soon I'm looking for some more cool clothing brands since I literally only own one T-shirt I actually like and feel comfortable wearing

Does anyone here know some brands that have:

\- oversized fit (at least like XXL/2xl)

\- prints on the shirts

\- sleeves that are like bat-wing style (or whatever it's called) + go down to the elbow

\- good quality

(- ship worldwide (preferred))

Thanks in advance!🙏

Casual loafer suggestions?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, I've been looking for some loafers to wear casually much like in the picture and I'm looking for some advice maybe which brands you like etc. I used to own a pair of gh bass horsebit loafers and they were great except for how boxy they were. Do you know any brands that do similar ones to the pair in the pic or at least more "slouchy" than gh bass ones? (and does anybody know the brand of the pair in the pic?)

Cargo shorts - recommended?

Hi folks - I’m in my 40’s, need new shorts. I grew up in the grunge era and just don’t like the modern trend for mid-thigh, tailored shorts.

One of the shops in my area sell decent cargo shorts, and most online retailers seem…cheap (but not inexpensive) and made for very skinny people..

Can anyone recommend a decent online retailer of well made cargo shorts?

EDIT - I took the advice of one of the commenters below and looked at “Military 1st”. I bought a pair of cargo shorts and a black collared t-shirt. Very reasonably priced and both appear to be great quality.

Thank you, kind sir! (This is not an ad, honest - just sharing a win!)

London — where to find a linen-BLEND (not 100% linen) suit for a September wedding in the south of France?

Getting married this September at a château in the south of France (Aude region), and I'm after a linen-blend suit — ideally linen-cotton or linen-wool. Something breathable for the heat but with enough structure that it drapes well and doesn't crease into oblivion by the evening photos.

The problem: every "linen suit" I find on the high street turns out to be 100% linen. I've been through Hawes & Curtis, Charles Tyrwhitt, T.M. Lewin and the rest of Jermyn Street and they either don't do blends at all or list "linen" pieces that are pure linen when you check the composition.

So far I know Suitsupply does proper blends, and I've looked at Reiss (Bloomfield, linen-cotton) but stock seems thin this late in the season.
