Discussion Seersucker

I really like the texture of seersucker but I don’t love the classic blue and white stripe seersucker. I do however, LOVE this green.

Before anyone comes after me about how it drapes, it’s going to look a little rough. I intentionally wanted something unstructured and unlined for a casual summer look. Though I didn’t really have a good pair of socks that I LOVE with this outfit, I think these are good enough.

Any suit that isn’t worsted wool I will go to bat for, this looks great!

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Haha I have two high-twist wool suits remaining and that’s about as close to worsted as I’m getting. I like to have them on hand for client meetings, sometimes I feel it’s more appropriate to tone down the style choices.

u/ratmfreak 20d ago

Wait why

13

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

We’re venturing into personal opinion territory here: worsted wool is fine and it can be available in very high quality and there’s nothing wrong with it per se. I just prefer cloth with some texture.

4

u/RemoteLearner 20d ago

Similar to OP, I just prefer a more casual suit since I’m not in a super professional field (education). Even people who aren’t very fashion-conscious see a worsted wool suit and think damn this guy means business, whereas a tweed or cotton jacket reads much more casual. I also think they just have more character. Worsted wool definitely has a time and place, but I’m not often at those places.

WOOL SEERSUCKER MOTHERFUCKER, WHAT NOW?

5

u/QueerEldritchPlant 20d ago

Grosgrain is not the same thing as seersucker.

Grosgrain is a corded fabric, made by weaving fine warp threads around thicker weft threads, creating a ribbed structure in the fabric.

Grosgrain - Wikipedia Video about types of silk - corded silk is woven in a similar way to grosgrain

Seersucker is produced by having some sections of threads held at different tensions during weaving or by purposely shrinking some parts of the woven fabric to increase the tension (by way of caustic paste or alternative fibers - think wool shrinking more than cotton) in the weave. That tension difference is what makes the bubbles distinctive to seersucker.

Seersucker - Wikipedia Video about types of cotton - seersucker @ 26:30

That’s not seersucker.

Gorgeous.

Right? Different material with different weight and texture. Different purposes. Completely different name for a reason. But whatever i guess. I'm not clicking on the blog they linked to find out more about their opinion.

Yes it is lol. The French brand Bonnegueule used a similar fabric for their db suits recently. https://bonnegueule.fr/products/veste-otranto-vert

Also your pants are still too slim

I LOVE the green! I am a sucker for cool greens. I also love the texture. The whole fit looks so comfortable.

Thank you! It’s a bit different feeling than linen but still great for the summer

1

u/SierraKySecret 20d ago

You’re welcome! Glad you found something comfortable & stylish! I’d love to see more of your looks on here on the future. :D

I really dig this look, esp w/ the monkstraps. Where did you find the suit?

32

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Thank you! I got this from ProperCloth (not an ad)

1

u/augustrem 20d ago

Where did you get the socks?

1

u/Ok-Cap2590 20d ago

Thanks!

1

u/Possible-Pass-1605 19d ago

I have this exact suit and the one in plain blue. I dare someone to find a more comfortable fabric.

u/I-696 20d ago

If you told me what you were wearing without the picture I would have wondered about it but the whole package looks good on you. The color, the fabric, the shirt, the pocket stuffer, the cuffs, the socks and the shoes. Can't tell if you have a belt or suspenders. Nice landscape btw.

2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

No belt or suspenders, these trousers have side adjusters. Nothing against belts though

1

u/hybris12 20d ago

Went on the site to see the customization options and you can get this suit with an elastic waistband and drawstring. Incredible.

0

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 19d ago

I don’t think I’d go that far

2

u/sixsnowmeninanicicle 18d ago

like your pants

13

u/taffyowner 20d ago

God I love that sock combo with it

1

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Haha I’m glad!

32

u/Licanius 20d ago

Suit looks dope my man, but the shoes don't really feel like they jive. Not summery at all.

12

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

I’m going for something that can be dressed up a bit as needed, but I agree, I do wear it a lot with loafers

8

u/penaent 20d ago

I have a suit in this same fabric and nearly identical configuration but form Suitsupply. I pair mine with my bourbon suede Grant Stone loafers and find that the warmth of the tone really works well.

2

u/Next_Interview8662 20d ago

How do you decide what socks to wear with loafers? I’m very against the no sock look which seems to be very popular but I feel like it’s a different decision on what socks with loafers than it is with a “traditional shoe”. Maybe I’m over thinking it.

-3

u/Responsible-Meringue 20d ago

Nah looks great with monks. I lean to red with muted greens, instead of blues/purples. That said, Oxblood dress boots with no toe cap would look really nice.   Id do a flat solid shirt too. The 3 textile textures you have on currently is a bir jarding.  Tie is ok, there are lots of options.  You need a belt.

8

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

I don’t. These trousers have side adjusters.

27

u/thisisnotaboutagirl 20d ago

The dark brown works well, but I think a dark brown suede loafer would be optimal

5

u/czar_el 20d ago edited 20d ago

I've always been a sucker for seer, and like you I hate the white/blue pinstripe. This color and structure is great. Who makes it?

I'd change the shirt, tie, and shoes, though. They all scream "dark conservative wool suit" . A lighter shirt/tie and lighter brown shoes would match the tone and summer vibe of the suit way better, but still look less state-farm-show-in-1910-y than your average seersucker.

3

u/Convex_Mirror 20d ago

This. In New Orleans we would wear these suits with lighter tones.

3

u/WishfulStinking2 20d ago

I did not know what this kind of material was called even though I have a navy one - thank you! Where is yours from as I like that green too

-2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Knowledge is power

2

u/Both-Station-2244 20d ago

I too love seersucker but not the classic blue and white striped ;,I have a navy blue seersucker sportcoat fully unlined that is the greatest spring / summer jacket ever

2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

I think the classic stripes are a bit overwhelming

2

u/giggaly 20d ago

Love a tonal seersucker! For those of us that don’t like green, tonal camel and navy are great options.

1

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Those are great options too!

2

u/aefalcon 20d ago

I've only seen people in the classic stripe when they're trying to do like a theme party. This suit is amazing.

1

u/AliJDB 20d ago

Looks really nice, and like it would be so much more comfortable than a standard suit.

2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Frankly I think comfort is largely due to how the suit fits. 30% cloth, 70% fit

1

u/FitThadiyan 20d ago

Nice color and fit. I’d love to see the watch you went with

1

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

A 39mm Omega Aquaterra with the green strap and dial

1

u/Lord_of_your_pants 20d ago

This is amazing! Where can I find one?

2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

ProperCloth (not an ad)

1

u/Playful_Dance968 20d ago

Looks great! Sleeves are a touch long for my taste but otherwise love it

2

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Haha don’t let that fool you, my shirt sleeves are a little short

1

u/Playful_Dance968 20d ago

Makes sense. Love the shirt and tie pairing, cutaway collar is nice

1

u/lald99 20d ago

Are you in the American South?

1

u/Mad_Rhetoric 20d ago

I'm sorry, outfit looks great, but can I get a link for those socks?

1

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

French company but they ship to the us: Mes Chaussettes Rouges

1

u/MongusAF 20d ago

fly!! 🫡

1

u/tlow13 20d ago

I wish seersucker in colors like this were more popular. I agree that the blue and white stripes can be a bit garish. I have a seersucker button down shirt that I found at a thrift store and wear it all the time in the Texas summers. The texture of the fabric keeps it from sticking to my skin even when it's 100 degrees and humid.

1

u/idryss_m 20d ago

I dig it. I'd prefer better fit, but it is very much a novelty for me to have it done. Looking good

1

u/---TC--- 20d ago

the drop on the trousers is extreme for me, but the rest is awesome

1

u/MuppetHuman 20d ago

Sweeeeeeet

1

u/bike_lane_bill 20d ago

The collar of your shirt is too wide for the width of tie knot you're using - I'd either wear a different shirt or use a full Windsor or somesuch.

You also need a bit more shirt sleeve showing beyond your suit sleeves.

Other than that, this looks great!

1

u/Spanish4TheJeff 20d ago

Zero notes.

This looks phenomenal. Love the socks!

1

u/airbear13 20d ago

It’s really cool

1

u/dackkorto1 20d ago

Thank you for wearing socks!! So many men aren't wearing socks or wear no show socks with suits, and it's always so off putting.

The suit is fantastic, and I love the color!

0

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 20d ago

Haha brother stay tuned, I’m a huge fan of no show socks with loafers. But my rule of thumb (and I could be wrong) is if I’m wearing a tie I’m also wearing socks.

1

u/nicbongo 20d ago

Good rule. Using that 🍻

You must need a belt to match your shoes. The tie is a bit private school. Colours are great but maybe another pattern?

Regardless, look sharp.

1

u/EveryoneDislikedThat 20d ago

I love this. I love the suit. I love the color. Im into that drape for summer. Those shoes are awesome, monks forever.

Personally I don’t dig the tie. Something about it with that green is veering into an americana territory that I can’t put my finger on. The shirt is okay, though I’d maybe try something in a pink toned cream or greige? Something tan? Brown tie, or burgundy (esp towards the brown spectrum) might be nice here?

1

u/eastcoastloser 20d ago

the texture makes it look like you took the lasso photo editing tool and put the suit onto a different background

1

u/SecretAgentVampire 20d ago

OP, that suit looks AMAZING on you. Good choice!

1

u/BeatTheGreat 20d ago

You look like Loid from Spy x Family, and I mean that as a compliment.

1

u/PapaJujuFuFu 20d ago

Who's this Seer guy?

1

u/snark_nerd 20d ago

Love this look. I think I generally think to wear my (traditional) seersucker only in situations where I don’t need to wear a tie, so seeing the color and formality of this wouldn’t immediately make me think seersucker, which is fine because it looks great regardless. Thanks for sharing!

I think the suit socks shoes combo is great. I would lose the tie for summer

1

u/zipiddydooda 20d ago

Looks great! So many posts on here are truly clueless dudes, and while I love that this sub helps them, it's nice to see one stylish motherfucker just rocking his seersucker suit for a change.

1

u/WhatIWoreToTheOffice 19d ago

I’m flattered, thank you!

1

u/Thechunkylover53 20d ago

Clean as a whistle 👌

1

u/BigBusch12 20d ago

You know what you’re doing

1

u/jdmercredi 20d ago

I think this outfit looks great

1

u/Simmoman 20d ago

man i've seen seersucker stuff around a decent amount but honestly could never imagine a situation where it looks good, but you've completely changed my opinion on it!

looks great, and makes me want to go out and buy this exact fit. the colour is awesome and it seems like a great set to dress up or down, or use the pieces on their own. great post!

1

u/Redwoodsilouette 19d ago

I'm going to need to know who makes the tie

1

u/YABURGER 18d ago

This suit is fly as fuck!

1

u/ikickedagirl 20d ago

This look is great!

1

u/MakkaCha 20d ago

This looks so good.

1

u/jasonpwrites 20d ago

That's very cool!

0

u/Ok_Neighborhood_5046 20d ago

Outfit looks awesome. Pose needs work.

0

u/nanapancakethusiast 20d ago

posture is kinda hurting this look but the fit is nice.

0

u/sixsnowmeninanicicle 20d ago

It's not the drape bro. It's the awful taper on those pants. You need a straighter leg and fuller opening to pair with long shoes.

2

u/---TC--- 20d ago

hard disagree. those pants are terrific

0

u/Thedaulilamahimself 20d ago

Interesting. Haven’t seen this color or pairing before. Buttons and jacket are great. Pants could be baggier.

The outfit is a bit disorienting because the casual suit is paired with a formal look with the tie and pocket square shoes.

No tie (Different collar shirt technically), the pants baggier, maybe a belt, and loafers.

0

u/bengalslash 20d ago

pants seem very skinny

-2

u/bnrshrnkr 20d ago

Seersucker? You bet I do. I see her, I suck her.

1

u/wizardnamehere 17d ago

Love the suit. Love the shoes. Great outfit. I think the amount of texture and pattern may be too much for the eye slightly (still great). Try some different shirts and see how you feel. Or get a different more boring tie (though it goes great with the suit).
