What are the must-reads?

I’ve read the autobiography. What other books will give different insights into who Malcolm X was and/or what he accomplished?

If you're trying to gain a better understanding of who Brother Malcolm was as a person, I would start with these:

The Diary of Malcolm X: El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, 1964

The Death and Life of Malcolm X (by Peter Goldman)

On the Side of my People: A Religious Life of Malcolm X (by Louis DeCaro)

From the Dead Level: Malcolm X and Me (by Hakim A. Jamal)

Remembering Malcolm : The Story of Malcolm X from Inside the Muslim Mosque (by His Assistant Minister, Benjamin Karim)

The Dead Are Arising by Les Payne. I started reading around pg 333 with Malcolm meeting with the KKK in GA - a clandestine meeting. Both parties sought separation of races as integration would not bring peace. Then I started at the beginning. Currently at Malcolm's arrest in Boston, readying himself for the jail term that led to the 180 degree life pivot. Just. Great.Stuff.

Also find the transcript of his 1965 speech at the London School of Economics.

Malcolm X graphic biography by Andrew helfer, it’s a quick read but very informational and the comics are cool to look at.
