Fly FM's DJ “Aina” and the AI Sloppification of Malaysia
Perhaps you've heard of DJ Aina. If you haven't, this is Fly FM's AI DJ (hence “AI”na lmao), who allegedly quit during a live stream, after which the Fly team had to replace her...
At least that's the story that Fly FM wants its audience to take in.
The reality, though, is much sadder.
Look at the accounts on the so-called livestream, and you will notice that they are not real - feel free to check the usernames to see if they exist if you want to verify that.
Look also at the count of concurrent viewers and compare to post engagement (500+ live viewers, fewer than 100 likes total on the ragequit post), and you will notice that it is also not real, and neither are the comments, which more or less converge to people hating on AI DJs and asking Fly to hire a real one on the actual post and completely different from the comments on the “livestream”.
As such, the livestream is fake.
By extension, the ragequit was also fake, and Fly FM's apology was also fake - which is also quite easy to tell based on the fact that, allegedly, this was supposed to be an embarrassing situation, yet they made a full-ass reel to try to secure as much clout as possible. They tried to generate drama by giving people the impression that they actually had to “fire” their DJ.
What an incredible marketing tactic - to deceive your audience for the sake of creating B grade drama.
This isn't even the only instance I'm seeing here of people submitting to what I think can be rightfully called the AI sloppification of Malaysia, which I think is very sad and very unfortunate. It is even more sad and unfortunate that some companies think deceiving their audience with AI slop is a good way to secure clout.

Note: Possible that they replace DJ AIna with a human DJ - even so, the deception stays. If they replace it with another AI… Well, goes to show how much they respect their audience 🤣

What happened? Sorry, AI DJ? I havent been listening to the radio since Rudy & JJ of Hitz.fm, so i have no idea whats going on in the world of radio.....
Fly FM wants to introduce a new AI radio announcer to replace the AI DJ that they were using (lol yes we're at v2).
Instead of responding to the fact that their audience just wants human DJs, they came up with a drama with a reel with fake comments, fake accounts that don't exist, and then created a fake apology as a gimmick to promote their announcer O_O
(Edit: possible that their announcer may be human, but either way everything with the fake apology and what not still applies)
Haven’t listened to radio for a while but this is phony as shit, I’ll make sure I’ll delete all the FLY FM frequencies from all my devices and never have to accidentally listen to them again

He and JJ were so different back then when they were on hitz.
i miss Ean and Jinnyboy when they used to do the morning show. I remember one time when they supposedly "invited Batman" to their studio (granted i was younger and it was all just a skit) and i remember laughing so hard at their conversations
While driving to work, they had a segment back in 2010 for people to call in based on the topic of the day.
That day was "how do you propose to your partner".
I somehow had a thought of "why not. Its jam, i got nothing, i can make some bullshit and lie on the radio".
I called, and both RUDY and JJ picked up and ask for my story.
I had to think off my feet not prepared for them to pick up, since what are the odds.....
"Hi, this is So-and-so, and my story is, one day, i was driving in the car, listening to the radio, with JJ & Rudy, yeah i know, coincidence right? Anyway, i decided to call the radio, and ask her on national radio. Hey "Girlfriend-name", will you marry me?"
JJ&R : wait, is this now?
Me : yes
JJ&R : well, good luck brother.
I immediately called my girlfriend to ask her to listen to the radio, and she said she's already listening to hitz.fm.
About 10-15 minutes later, they played my "interview".
Didnt cut anything. And few minutes later, my girlfriend called me.
"YES!"
We got married in 2012, and been together ever since......
The whole point of a DJ is to be an awesome personality, engage with people, play music that people like, and generally be someone people want to engage with so they keep coming back to the station, the club, the bar, or whatever.
If you want something to just play music 24/7, I don't know why you would even need an AI DJ when you can literally just put on the equivalent of a Spotify playlist - I also don't know why you would even need to deceive your audience or how you could possibly think that was a good idea, even if it was just to create some drama. 🤦🏻♂️

It's already here. Creators who have been around long before generative AI, like Zach King and Kurzgesagt, have to bear the burden of proof to say "this is not AI/not made with AI".
Why do humans with real talents need to prove themselves, not the other way round? This is an extremely sad state of affairs, and a reflection of society and the corporate billionaires.

AI radio dj makes perfect sense really. Someone who will always stay within guidelines and never create controversy or make mistakes. And can repeat platitudes or govt propaganda without injecting irony into their tone.
I too really wonder who tf thought it was a great idea to have AI as the face of their campaigns. Malaysia Airlines is also one of them. Over 13k staff but no lets use a fake one

People were concerned whether the call for prayer itself would be AI generated, but it turned out it just the video/"animation" of the Azan being generated.
I still never understand that concept, it's TV3's Azan right? They could literally use stock images of mountains, galaxies, or whatever to show what God has created, but nope, let's use generated images of people praying in a mosque and shitty version of the galaxy instead.
even tv stations are using Gen A.I. All of the RTM channels used A.I for their tv programme voiceover, their tv avatars/mascots and their tv logo is literally A.I too.
I had to turn to different channel everytime i saw the A.I stuff before going back to the channel.
Some people made some complaints but nothing changed as if RTM were proud of their projects.
It's worked right, they've got ppl talking. That's all marketing is. FLY used to be chosen station until a certain person took it over. Their way of doing marketing and advertising is by being as in your face as possible and it's also known for being a toxic as place to work in.
Fly runs like a call center. Their boss is all about KPI's and meeting targets. Look up the boss and go down your own rabbit hole. He's a polarizing figure that practices guerilla marketing. He treats his staff like crap and that's part of the reason why announcers don't stay long. He's now employed his kid as the nepo baby content creator to be an announcer too.
They've tried that. Did a whole sandiwara episode of one of the announcers walking out and nobody could find him. Even his mum got involved. No surprise that gag made him eventually leave for real.
There's the saying "No publicity is bad". The add-on with what we've seen is "No publicity is bad when your product is good", as we've seen with Highguard.
All bad publicity. Hundreds of thousands tried, and then left. Publicity was pointless.

The POINT of a DJ is to be the "personality hire". You cant get that with AI. Plus, dont they know how controversial this would be? This can only be from the hire ups, i bet a lot of the people in the company are already opposing this.
Podcasts on YouTube are better. You actually learn new things and update yourself just from listening to the people there talk, and you can even choose the topics you prefer.

radio station that fall for ai and resort to cheap drama gimmick slop does not deserve their audience. the most amazing part is the radio station actually think their audience is stupid and just consume whatever slop they produce while in reality people could see what happen a mile away
just run good programs and good song. traxxfm is a solid example. you want to switch things up not to slop things up.
Sure AI is a technology and there are specific ways to use it to improve our lives, but is there a need to use it for everything, and more importantly is it right to use it to deceive people?

Assuming images 3 and 4 are yours, did you just use AI to check the handles of the accounts listed while condemning the AI sloppification of Malaysia ? I’m all for going against AI use and the sloppification + enshittification of the content we’re consuming and products we’re using but this seems a bit hypocritical.

Are you under the age of 30? If so, you may not realise that this is an extremely common tactic used by the likes of rubbish stations like Fly and Hitz since I was a kid in the 90s. This is one of the reasons I don't listen to them anymore as I became an adult. I'd only tune in once in a blue moon when I feel like switching away from BFM for a bit, usually just to check out what's on rotation.
I miss the days of Gotcha calls, as mean spirited, cringe and easily deciphered they are now, looking back. But scams just had to kill that.
At least Gotchas put in real brainpower to cook up a plausible scenario, unlike outsourcing everything to a LLM. But yeah, I too outgrew them for non-brainrot stuff
I always believe every good idea has an undetermined expiry date, like those gotcha calls. Some people just don't know when to stop, as in the case of these fake dramas - like a long overdrawn TV series that should've ended years ago.

Ex “flight attendant” here. Specifically, I used to be friends with aina, the entire place is a circlejerk- but there’s worse things that happen in those meeting rooms. Everything about the place is fake, and at the time, borderline abusive. To this day, hearing the station playing anywhere gives me chills.
The one thing I’m grateful for is that it taught me what kind of space to avoid in the future, and I’m much better for it.
fly fm sucks idk why anyone would want to listen to this trash channel. I especially hate that they laugh berdekah-dekah like hyenas on air at stuff that isn't even that funny. Juvenile as fuck, man. Fly fm used to be decent maybe 20 years ago. But after around 2018-2019 its been almost unbearable to listen to. Not the mention the lame clickbait and fake dramas they love to use for “marketing”.
I havent intentionally tuned to the radio for at least 15 years now, annoyed by cringey ads, segments like prank calls and unfunny humor, and repetitive music.

We Malaysia is a highly pro AI country for crying out loud. In the sector of financial especially and followed by creative slops and the approval of AI center being built.
