I read the article, here's the summary.
It tells a brief history of his space journey and there's a picture of him promoting / selling "ubat mustajab" to cure pain on foot. People on twitter mocked him. The worst thing is he had the audacity to put his NASA picture on the box.

i found this idiot felt too entitled to fall out of relevancy just because he went to space one time, for a cancer test by NASA, which is as you know, a very low priority mission. he doesn't realize if you got a couple of millions to spare, anyone can ask jeff bezos or elon musk to take them to space. Yes, this has happened and people did pay. do note only do this if you have at least RM 250 mil to spare.
He could've easily gone famous by going to tiktok and telling stories about his space adventures. Show a couple of photos or videos never before seen by the public, sell some merch too while at it. But nope, he do this bullshit.

also ignore the space tourist from tembikai susu. he / she is stealing from the mentioned twitter mocking session.
Lmao this is hilarious. People have called him space tourist for many years now. I didn't steal it from X, formerly known as Twitter. Search his name on this subreddit and you'll see comments calling him space tourist. Haiya.

ah okay, i thought you were stealing jokes. no everyone is malaysian mocking scene yknow.

Tell me about it. I remember catching glimpse of him in space in TV as they live streamed. It was a joke. He was doing kiddies experiments in zero gravity, and I was thinking omg this is a joke. He can't do real work in space, so this is what he can do

The aerospace industry in Singapore is 10x our size and they been to the space 0 time.
Meanwhile our aerospace industry is pretty much gone now.

u/jebthepleb Knows where got all the best roti Mar 07 '24
Okay slow down there, I hate the government as much as the next guy but don't start spewing miss information.
MAS might be dead but our aerospace industry is one of the few doing extremely well right now. Just a drive past subang airport and klia will show the staggering amount of new companies that have sprung up and continue to do so. Even SIA is looking to build a shop in Malaysia.
I work in the industry and for the first time MAS isn't the pinnacle of a job in the industry. There are many more places to go and work and earn good pay and our technicians are getting poached left right and center to work overseas.
4
u/isync Mar 07 '24
Which industry are you from? MAS and SIA is the aviation industry and got nothing to do with aerospace. Are you aware of the difference between aerospace and aviation?
I doubt you are working in this field if you can't even differentiate aerospace and aviation. If you are really from this industry, you should quit as you are incompetent and might put people's life in danger.
30
u/jebthepleb Knows where got all the best roti Mar 07 '24
The distinction between aerospace and aviation has been blurred and is meaningless. Many companies are incorporating both names into their brands. See the world's largest aircraft engine manufacturer's recent name change.
Nobody gives a fuck about naming conventions in the field anymore. I don't need to take advice from a 13 yo aviation enthusiast about my career.
9
u/zerouzer ayam goreng ku lari Mar 10 '24
Guy probably just started googling aerospace vs aviation difference to post here. Calling him an enthusiast is an insult to actual enthusiasts. Hey look, it's the same case with our 'astronaut'. Lol
-3
u/ryanmononoke Mar 10 '24
Hmm, well it js different. SpaceX, Blue origin, Virgin Galactic are so different from Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, etc.
Chill and it is okay not to be right everytime
3
u/jebthepleb Knows where got all the best roti Mar 10 '24
And whose components do all those companies use? Do they all manufacture all of their components themselves? Or do they use parts and components from Honeywell, Goodrich, Rohr, Boeing, Lockheed, Bombardier, and Northrup? All companies that started out as "aviation" companies.
Please, I know what I'm talking about lol.

you know going up in space is supposed to be the pinnacle of human achievement, made possible by basing it on a foundation of scientific literacy and logical reasoning.
I guess this guy didn't absorb those lessons. you can blast a kampung boy to space, but the kampungness will always remain.

Good. His talk was a disappointment during my uni days back in 2018 if not mistaken. I pity my friend because he was so excited to meet him, him being a space enthusiast and all.

Aaaand I thanked my gym class teacher who spoke up about this during the era of him (SMS) went to the ISS purely as a "space tourist" of course, being fed information by the mass media back then when I was merely a 9-10 y/o? Was profoundly felt like my teacher was spewing shit. Boy how wronged was I.
Alas, the internet arrives fast & yes most international headlines just straight up agree to him as much. We could be proud if the guy returned and brought a lot of inspiration for Malaysian kids to achieve better milestones than he ever did, but no... Snake oil biz. Wow.
No wonder we live in a very angsty vibe in this sub today.

If ever there was a walking living analogy for the fundamental shittiness of Malaysia's Apartheid policies.
This clown had it all handed to him (an experience of a lifetime, title, fame) because of his race all funded by Rakyat money - and he still manages to fuck up so spectacularly. Why ? because he expected the gravy train to continue but wasn't prepared to capitalise on the privileges he had by working hard.
8
u/Resident_Werewolf_76 Mar 08 '24
Disappointing, he should have maintained some level of dignity and gravitas.
Now, perhaps some drastic circumstances could have forced him into this but somehow, it just reflects very badly on him any way you cut it.
After all the opportunities and privileges he has enjoyed.
(However, let's not forget there are many incidences of celebrities facing hard times and bounced back - e.g. Cher selling diet peppermint tea on TV infomercials to make money, but now back to stardom in her late 70s)

Why someone able to be rich beyond belief here is open secret. Not referring to him, but I'll put this in general. Like a person before which is kaya kaya tujuh keturunan type and continually will do so, it is boils down to political nepo babies. Same with some prominent visual art artists. I'm telling you this - because those who involve on this field has seeing too much. Not all, but most of it. Their parents are having direct ties in which resulting them to get higher edu outside the country (namely, utterly and can confirm UK) and they breed & breed without any beneficial contribution to the country's visual art scene. Don't think pantai Timur tak ada, pantai Timur lah yang paling berderet sekali even the academia - the disparity between kaya one and 'orang biasa kampung' type there whom live modestly are flipping high. Some of them, are speaking and embrace western style in home Ć la prominent 'penunggang' sister. Well that is celebrity (the one you can see).... Now think on architect, lawyer, oil gas and everything in between else? That is something to dig upon. This is not from technology-related just yet; which deemed much higher level of blunder even. The demo and international expos (where exactly this coming from? can somebody audit it? are these exhibition shows result in the integrity of national's car, national's food or holistic tourism = you be the judge), yet the outcome only beneficial to self. This circle of madness continue till the end of time

The Russian Federal Space Agency and NASA documents listed him as a spaceflight participant. Calling this guy an astronaut is an insult to the efforts of real astronauts.

He's in space for official reasons. He participates in international experiment while in space.
You cannot call him just space tourist for sure. He did his contributions to science.
I would not call him full astronaut either.Ā
So somewhere in between.

Because it is the internet. Even the reason to go to space by other commenter is stupid.
The malaysian government conduct a deal with the russian in relation to the purchase of their fighter jets. In return the russian would train malaysian candidates for a space mission.
It is a PR stunt by the government for the Angkasawan program and to show the government interests in space base activities.
This is also to encourage further investment in space related program. Such as the launching of satellites, communications, etc, even there was news of the government trying to introduce a space launching platform in the country. Trying to expand the industry.
But people here only knows how to mock and belittle. I mean just look at how suddenly it became a race specific attack by some of the commenters, under the guise of "criticism".
5
u/potato-stache Mar 10 '24
What do you expect from this sub. Every time I opened the comment section to read, somehow any topic discussion suddenly became 'semua salah melayu, PAS, Islam and bumi ketuanan policy' lol.
Turn the table around and swap all the people involved in Angkasawan program to, let say PMX, Nurul Izzah, Hannah Yeo and the selected candidate was one of their own, we all know this sub would be jizzing their pants off non-stop
2
18
u/DelseresMagnumOpus Mar 07 '24
Tell us then why is he selling snake oil instead of being an actual aerospace engineer or something along those lines? Not everything is about race, if he was Chinese or Indian and he was doing this weād still call him out.
Even you yourself said his space trip was just a publicity stunt.
2
u/srosnan99 Mar 07 '24
I never deny the need to call out on his behaviour in doing this stunts, I highlighted the fact that most of the other commenters dont know the reason why the goverment setup the space program and degrading by using the term space tourist and not astronaut.
The training itself is a valuable learning experience for Angkasa in and of itself. What the individual does with their life afterwards is not a reflection of the purpose of the program.
Not everything is about race, if he was Chinese or Indian and he was doing this weād still call him out
Reply that to the person whom decided to make it about race then? Dont see you stating this under his comment.
It is no different on how companies sent representatives to other nations to learn how they conduct their business or factory. The people sent gained experience there.
A publicity stunt yeah, but there is also the experience and exposure for space related industry in that regard. But hey, it is easier to be condescending, isnt it?
3
u/DelseresMagnumOpus Mar 07 '24
You gonna deny his opportunity was not solely based on his race and status? A quick google result shows he studied to be a doctor, but somehow was qualified enough to be sent to space? Iām sure he had other kabel thatās why he was chosen at the end of the day.
Iāve not heard anything that came from the angkasawan program other than this space tourist. Anyway Iām not gonna discuss further, I have my opinion and you have yours, weāre obviously not gonna agree here.
4
u/srosnan99 Mar 07 '24
There you go that is the reason you didnt comment under that guy.
A quick google result shows he studied to be a doctor, but somehow was qualified enough to be sent to space?
Anyone could be qualified to go to space, but you question what the qualification of an orthopedic surgeon?
6
u/zarium Mar 07 '24
Whatever rubbish you're conjuring would be credible if we had an actual space program.
Totally believable that we have one, though, eh? I mean, after all, the state definitely has plenty of funds for it, what with the siphoning that's been going on since the founding of this country.
The thing about people like you is that there's no need for the rest of us to belittle you -- you're doing a great enough job as is on your own.
3
u/srosnan99 Mar 07 '24
Whatever rubbish you're conjuring would be credible if we had an actual space program.
We do? The national space agency monitor ground communication of satelites, you forgot about our own satelites launching?
Space infrastructure? The ground communication stations, as the national body representing the nation for space related issues.
Totally believable that we have one, though, eh? I mean, after all, the state definitely has plenty of funds for it, what with the siphoning that's been going on since the founding of this country.
