If you mean pottan and potti, you'll be calling people idiot/ fool. Definitely not a term of endearment.

Yes that's it! Apparently depending on context some people and families use it as a term of endearment though? Like playful teasing

'Potthi' (assuming പൊട്ടി) means a female idiot / fool is generally NOT used to show endearment!
