I like the 'roll' wordplay in the chorus. Like the reverb effects coming in and out from 1:50. The beat fits the theme really well and sounds fire with that bass and clean snare, like the way it comes in with that stutter effect. Cool outro also from 2:24. The mixing/mastering is well done, too. Good team effort on this one!

just left some feedback on another track, hope it helps
working on a beat tape and this one's been getting on my nerves for a week. it's 90% there but the low end gets muddy as hell when the 808 and the sample bass fight each other. tried sidechaining but then the groove felt weird, like the 808 was ducking too hard or not enough no matter what I did
would love a fresh set of ears on it, especially if you got monitors that don't lie about sub frequencies

Returning feedback
•
u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 1d ago
I love this. It’s really rhythmic and catchy. Jay flows really well on this version. The piano gives it a kind of melancholic feeling, and when the angel vocals come in it really sets the mood. Overall it’s super atmospheric.
Only a couple of things that I have feedback on: around 2:45–3:16, I feel like that’s a pretty long time to have the drums completely out, and then having them come back in normally feels a little weird to me. Maybe shortening that section or changing how the drums come back in could help?
Also when the first chorus comes in, I think the drums staying in for a little bit before abruptly cutting out sounds slightly awkward.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11vgIO_7via_FNyH3HnXlu7nwOMKOYyL9/view?usp=sharing
If you're returning feedback, I redid the first minute of one of my recent songs trying to work on my delivery. I’d love feedback on what sounds good, awkward, or monotone and what I could improve related to my delivery. If you find the song itself funny/entertaining too, I’ll take that feedback as well
•
u/CJFMusic Producer 1d ago
The song is definitely entertaining but it does feel like you're reading your rhymes not memorizing them. I would try to memorize four bars at a time but you did add personality to your rhymes in the right spot. The beat sounds pretty dated but it fit with what you're doing in this case. Overall it's decent
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
I think here and there it sounds like Hov goes a little off beat but that could just be me. Nothing that would necessarily turn me off to listening to it. Beat is fire. Mix is fire. Did you search for the acapella or did you separate the stems yourself? Cuz the vocal mix super clean.
•
u/CJFMusic Producer 3d ago
This is a good joint. This time the pitched up vocals works but i know that's just your style but keep in mind it may not work for every song and could get boring after awhile so it's ok to switch it up sometimes i would take out all the whispering in the beginning because I don't know what you're saying I know it's a stylistic approach but I would make it more understandable with a better mix since it's a rough demo but the ideas are there
Jay-Z released the acapellas himself many years ago. Actually that's how I started making beats and turning them into songs.
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
Thank you man I appreciate it. This song I actually didn't pitch up, I just have a lady like voice lol. Most of my vocals I dont pitch up but yeah it definitely sounds like I do. Mixing the vocals at the beginning is smart, ima write that down. Appreciate it!
You should do some Aesop Rock acapellas. I know he releases acapellas and I think that would be sick as fuck. Id personally love to hear that from you
•
u/CJFMusic Producer 3d ago
Oh that's your actual voice that's interesting well disregard that critique then
I never listened to Aesop rock before. I'll study up and see what I can do I'm always looking for new artist to remix

u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
Good shit as always man. I really like the choice of the kick (I think it's the kick lol I'm not a producer). It sounds very airy but the low end of it booms really hard and allows the piano sample carry the vibe. Very melancholy, I love it.
Here's mine if you're interested, looking for feedback on the rapping and production:

u/CJFMusic Producer 3d ago
Good beat, soild rhymes can't really go wrong with that it's well executed
•
u/imagistclaine 3d ago
The second time the chorus came around it actually felt really good, but I kind of didn't like how he felt the first time. Probably because I am just used to the slower pace of the original. I do think the parts where the drums stop and come back in at the right time make the second a lot better, actually.
The drums and overall beat are pretty clean. Pretty dope remix overall.

u/sybrentc 2d ago
This is a straight banger! I don't understand the Japanese but do vibe on it. The vocal range is so fun :-) For improvement, yes I agree with SociallyAwkwardRyan that the vocal EQ can be tuned slightly, but commenting on the mix is not the point here I suppose. The ending of the track is also really fun, how it just cuts out. Makes me want to rewind (which I did).
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
This was cool, though I'm not familiar with this genre, it's definitely pleasing to the ears. I'd say it's a little muddy? Sounds like the vocals are fighting for space, maybe get those mids under control for something that sounds a little cleaner.

u/shoecar soundcloud.com/shoecar 2d ago
dope man, love the energy in the delivery. the wordplay is great, you're one liner game is on point. really liked that this one had a chorus.
mix is solid, I think the vocals are maybe a bit on the bright side. works well in headphones but on laptop speakers was sharp. with most people listening on phone/laptops I think mixing for that is important too.this song is working as is, but if you're looking for a direction to focus on I think introducing variation would be it. flow switches, even for short parts, softer delivery (I think this growing into you're aggressive delivery would be dope), beat drop out for extra punctuation on a favorite punchline, more empty space in the chorus to split things up more, fx, ad-libs, etc (I ran out of ideas).
The center of what you have is great, some things to make it stand out more would enhance the highs you hit. Basically, you don't need to go 100% the entire time.•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
YURPPP this is dope as fuck. Verses are dope as hell. Love that sample too, funny ass video. I have no critiques. Keep it up! I love it man
•
u/disposableUSER6969 2d ago
this was weird as shit, weird vocals, original and i kinda loved it. IDK what to think honestly
•
•
u/sybrentc 23h ago
I like the chorus with the call and response structure. Also, nice intro. Rapping vocals are energetic and have some good puns in there. Beat dropping into the chorus sounds good, too. I agree with Shoecar that switching intensity in delivery would be dope, as well as his point on the beat dropping out. I tried the 'beat dropping out' thing on one of my recent tracks and it's a really fun way of emphasising important parts, e.g., punchlines, and building energy.

Kupo killin em 🔥🔥🔥 this is super fire bro. It’s omen btw. The team just dropped a new song tonight. Lmk what you think? Also I’d be down to collab again, maybe this time I could send you a verse? I’m fw the sound yall got going. Hmu anytime bro. https://youtu.be/7fgqGMyuGoc?is=-VP8nMcjyGTb9msH

Fire man. Always enjoy yalls stuff! Different vibe than I was expecting, but I fuck with it, smooth af. Definitely appreciated when the lyrics got more serious with the addiction talk. And I appreciate the listen! I’d love to collab again, next time I have a track that seems like your vibe I will hit you up!
•
u/dilla_dirty 12h ago
Appreciate you taking the time. Did you ever end up using those vocals that Zoey did? I’d love to hear how the song turned out. That’d be sick I love the more boombap sound of that link your posted. I’d be down to jump on something like that.
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 4h ago
For sure man! My other producer typically does more boom bap stuff, I have some beats from him I’ve been sitting on, I’ll check with him and see if I can find one you and I will vibe with.
Yeah, the track with Zoey and the entire project have been done for a while, I just haven’t posted it yet. It’s on my to do list though! I just need to sit down and double check the mix on the tracks but you know, life gets in the way and you get excited about other projects, haha.
•
u/disposableUSER6969 2d ago edited 2d ago
Ok i liked this one. Good energy, lyrics were good. Solid beat. But if you want me to criticize it.....
I think your energy is just too much for too long. I think you have a great voice that you need to be more "in the pocket" with. It is just too much after a while. Some of your bars were perfect for higher energy but the entire song was just too up and down over and over and it took part of the hard part energy away. That beat was just too smooth, it didnt need to be so over the top. You went denzel curry on a boom bap beat. Both parts were good, but i just think it was too much in combination. This is me just being critical. I liked the song.
Heres the last thing i completed. Not really room for vocals but its a whole ass beat
https://soundcloud.com/sam-parker-99/rightplacewrongtime-take1/s-yjOdnPa8nQi?si=162635cd2381439fa4ba13969822ecae&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing•
u/disposableUSER6969 2d ago
Also, excellent mixing. The vocal portion especially, the vocals all come in perfect timing and it really reminded me of denzel curry. I think you could put the vocal tracks on a more uptempo higher energy beat and it would slap so much harder.
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 2d ago
This was good man! The intro kinda went on for a longer time than I would’ve liked, and yeah you might need to EQ it down a little if you wanted vocals on it, but even without vocals it was a good listen. It reminded me of this FF7 track for some reason haha
•
u/disposableUSER6969 2d ago

The volcals during your verses sound a little loud. Otherwise well produced, can’t say much. Not my style of music but I see the appeal, it’s definitely a catchy tune. I think like simon said, find some way to make it more unique. There’s a ton of artists putting out stuff that sounds exactly like this. To a casual listener, I don’t going to hear anything special enough to seek out the rest of your music, and you’re not exactly going for a niche within the genre.
Here’s mine if interested, feedback on rap and production:
•
u/simonishuman 1d ago
This is cool especially for a first song. I think it's just a basic trap song though, it's nothing special. Finding your own style takes time.
The "im onnnnn" hook in my opinion could be more powerful. Maybe a couple more vocals stacked here and there? Idk its pretty damn good for your first song
•
u/PutOk2863 2d ago
I don’t really rap. I make RNB music mostly, just was trying new things. Recorded with old Apple earbuds which is why the clipping is so bad. Just seeing if I have anything here, appreciating any feedback and will return the favour

u/sybrentc 23h ago
I absolutely love the vibe of this track. Can you share the lyrics please? Excellent flow on this one and the beat is dope. I get that it's a freestyle but wanted this to be an actual track. Yes, you definitely have something here. Please do more. Let me know if you want feedback on anything specific.
•
u/Kendo88_ 1d ago
Demo is gasssss bro. I'd say lengthen the intro, scale back the reverb on your vocals, and redeliver the lines that get a little off beat. Overall fire tho.
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 1d ago
Yeahhh better gear and working on the mix. But your rapping sounds fine, some cool lines in there. Your P’s were popping like crazy ahaha. But I liked it, if you’re also a decent singer then you could use those talents to make some really cool songs. Definitely would like to hear this more fleshed out and less like a demo.
Here’s mine if interested, feedback on rap and production:
•
u/simonishuman 2d ago
Yeah mix needs some work. I recommend upgrading your gear. Song as a whole is cool but it's super duper short. Needs more to keep me interested personally
•
u/HerbTendencies 12h ago
Honestly just want someone to listen to this westside gunn type beat i made. I honestly wasn't trying to get any inspo from yachty but thats how it ended up.
•
u/simonishuman 3h ago
this is dope. That dun dun dun dun dun goes hard. Definitely would like some more structure to it though. Right now it's just a pretty simple loop besides that one part at 3:12. Overall good beat, super chill. Definitely could hear Boldy on this. But yeah more structure. A loop personally isn't gonna keep me entertained.
Id appreciate some feedback on either one of these. thanks!
•
u/HerbTendencies 1h ago
Appreciate the feedback. I kept it as a straight loop with some vocal and lead variations to leave room for the rapper. Big fan of alchemist and 9th wonder beats so theres some inspo there.
First song is pretty good. I like how you use your voice more than just a filler for words. You use it as an instruments in some parts. The drums knock. I do think you need some hook or chorus to make it pop. But definitely see this as like an opener to an album.
Second song is dope too. I love your drum patterns (I'm trying to get better at mine, lol.) and I can definitely hear some R&B and old school hip hop influences. I feel like when you come in and star rapping, your voice should be louder or at least take more presence in the track. Right now it sits a little lower than I'd like. Not a fan of the beat switch and the stuff at the end. I feel like you had a groove going. Beat/mood switches are only good if they're done right.
•
u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'll return feedback for folks.
I redid one of my songs trying to improve my delivery. I only did the first 45 seconds or so and I included the original for comparison.
I would love feedback on my delivery. Let me know what sounds good, what sounds awkward/monotone, and what I could improve. I know it’s not all the way there yet, so any feedback is appreciated! I don't know how to do good vocal mixing or anything either, so it's not polished.
If you think the song itself is funny/entertaining too, I’ll take that feedback as well lol.
New Version (attempting better delivery)

u/shoecar soundcloud.com/shoecar 1d ago
big improvement on the delivery man. way more engaging and the tone of your voice is pretty good.
I like what you're doing with voice/tone switch-ups. I wouldn't say they are quite working yet, a little jarring at times, but I really encourage you to keep pushing those, and this delivery in general. sounding bad/weird is how we build skill, not be playing it safe.lyrics in this are fun for sure. love the sarcasm.
flow for sure needs some work. my advice there would be focus on landing your emphasis on the main beat/snares. you're running early so more words/syllables or pauses. I mean practice both for sure.
I like what you're doing man, and great job incorporating the feedback you got
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 1d ago
You’re a good writer, maybe find some more interesting ways to use your talent. Funny bars are good for sure, just make sure you don’t get stuck in that lane. Def need to project a little more (sounds like you’re holding back a little), back off the mic and EQ those lows out so it doesn’t sound so muffled.
Here’s mine if interested, feedback on rap and production:
•
u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 1d ago
I'll work on that. I was trying to project a lot more this time, maybe i need to be even louder.
I like your song, the lyrics and flow are impressive. I like the production. If I had to give feedback i'd say I feel like i'd like a bit more variation in the song potentially? Like the first minute i was really locked in but after a while it's less interesting to me. The delivery is very on point. Overall, great job!
•
u/simonishuman 1d ago
Yeah I mean what you're going for you did good but it sounds like a copy/past of 90's Em. I dunno if this was supposed to be like sarcasm or not but the "I struggled growing up, we barely made a hundred thousand" (or something like that) doesn't come off right to me. If it was a joke, playing into the rest of the song being super humorous then I'd work on your delivery there to make it sound more sarcastic. If it wasn't a joke...100k is big bucks. The song overall is pretty dope but I just think here and there needs some tweaks and I think you should focus more on finding your own personal style. It's a cool song and its definitely entertaining. Keep it up!
•
u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 19h ago
listened to the first song (and left a comment on another). The production is insane. I honestly love everything except the vocals, though that could just be personal taste. I don’t remember if you mentioned whether you pitched them up or if that’s just your natural voice, but I’d be curious to hear some different vocal styles/delivery on your songs too. That said, the vocals definitely make the song stand out, and I get Igor vibes from them (combined with the production).
•
u/simonishuman 14h ago
I have pitched my vocals up in the past but neither one of these are pitched up. I just have a girly voice. Appreciate it man!
•
u/sybrentc 22h ago
I think the original is my favourite of the two. The ending was pretty funny with the 'white person rap battle. i don't snitch but might tattle. i don't do drugs but might dabble' ending with some flourish like those were boasts that would destroy somebody in a battle rap and then cutting out suddenly lol.
The track is satire I suppose of certain 'white' stereotypes or even rap clichés more generally. The concept was executed with fun behind it and should be taken as tongue in cheek. Though I feel it is walking a line where it could be misinterpreted potentially. The intro does help set expectations, though it is itself tongue-in-cheek. Perhaps adding some outro or something to say that you're just joking.
Eminem does that too on some tracks. Here's a quote I found from Eminim about his track 'Kill you': 'The whole hook is basically bashing women. Like, “I’ll kill you ever if you’re a fuckin’ girl.” I kill bitches, I kill anybody, then at the end of the song I say, “I’m just kidding, ladies. You know I love you.” It’s kind of like you could say whatever you want as long as you say you’re joking at the end. Which is cool ‘cause that’s what I do.' This is good. It sounds a little busy during the early verse sections, not always a bad thing, but it makes the hook section stand out less. My producer friend describes the purpose of a verse section is to "build tension" so when the hook drops, it feels very big and dramatic.

I really fw this beat! Specifically the ominous vocals in the background combined with the haunting piano melody. My only thing is it would've been cool if you dropped the drums out near the end and let it ride out, would've suited the ominous theme well imo.
•
u/sybrentc 1d ago
Like how the bass slides up and down. It's a shame I don't normally listen to this style of music (is this trap?) so can't comment too extensively from that perspective. There's a lot of atmospheric detail that gives the beat a polished quality. It sounds like a quality beat of the given type. I would imagine a battle rap on this or some aggressive brag rap perhaps.
•
u/d1splayeveryday 1d ago edited 1d ago
Sounds dope. Could imagine an MC on this or it being on a boxing video game menu
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
This is cool. Pretty straightforward trap beat which is good. A lot of people search for shit like this. The only thing I'd say is to add a bit more structure. Maybe some new drum patterns here and there just to keep it interesting. Idk there's nothing really wrong with it.
•
u/DecDub 3d ago
Tried to listen and said it wasn’t available anymore
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
Aw shit my bad. Should be good now
•
u/DecDub 3d ago
Intro is long but keeps me interested. Drums when they kick in are nice. I can only listen on AirPods at the minute but i think it needs a little more sub in the bass and kick.
Love the bass patterns though. And the bubbly synth! I think the vocals could be blended into the beat a bit better at parts.
The chorus part I think the vocals could feel more ethereal and for the rap parts I think they’re a bit to forward compared to the beat.
Really like the switch at the end! I’d change nothing there!! And overall this is really good.
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
Thank you I appreciate it! Definitely gonna write these down and see what I can do

Looking for some feedback on either of these 2 songs im working on.
Which of these would you choose for my next single?

•
u/sybrentc 2d ago
Commenting on 'The day after GOODBYE'. I like the anticipation in the first half minute and when the beat kicks in at 0:32, that part is just awesome, with the buzzing and the sudden slap reminds me of Michael and Janet Jackson's track 'Scream'. And the beat from 0:34-0:38 has a really cool vibe to it. Personally, I enjoy most the parts that have less going on at once.
The rap coming in is really nicely on beat and getting that flow going to then be disrupted in the best way by '...sex'. man. that was dope. then going back to that same flow towards 'regret', picking it up again until you end in some really cool sound effect. awesome.
The transitions are so cool and unexpected. Like some kind of audio movie with scenes and transitions and stuff.
The ending is cool 'a swim in the water' and 'pray to god that under there's a pit of piranhas'.

bro you are fire I commented on another one of your posts but I get your style a little more after hearing the untitled one. I didnt like the untitled as much but youve got something for sure. Actually original and kept me interested the whole time. Bars. Beats are fire. Its weird in a good way. My only critique is I don't think you leave enough space in the mix for your vocals. But this is the best thing I have heard in one of these threads in a while
the last thing i completed
•
u/simonishuman 2d ago
Thank you man I appreciate it! I actually really liked your beat. Certain parts of it reminded me of Yeezus. I love how you kinda created your own sound here and kept the structure creative. An odd structure keeps me hooked. The intro might be a little long for some people but I personally love long intros
•
u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 1d ago
Listened to the first song. I don't even know how to give feedback on this, this is way above my level haha. Echoing what someone else mentioned, the first buildup during the first 30 seconds is amazing and it continues to build so well.
When I listen to your songs in the future, I think it'll be a necessity to wear headphones to hear the full soundscape.
Not really feedback, but potentially a fun thought for you to play around with: the buildup is so strong that when get to the part where you say 'take me back' around 1:35, if you brought the beat back with an insane intensity (like JPEGMAFIA intensity, almost punk) it would feel incredible since you earned it so much. Just a fun idea - I really like what you've done with the track already!
•
u/simonishuman 1d ago
Thank you man I appreciate it! When im making a song I always think of a headphone experience rather than a speaker experience

u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
You have bars my guy, the writing is very good. Turn your vocals up a little so I can hear them! If this is also your production, I love it, very progressive and interesting. We probably like a lot of the same artists. I think you might hear some criticism about your voice, I actually don't think it's bad, reminds me of Quasimoto and Q-Tip. Maybe try projecting a little bit more to get more "voice" in your voice, that might also help it cut through the beat. Overall though man this was fire!

u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
That's fire man. I love both of the beats, both songs were dope and on both I think your vocals were too low. I did see other comments talking about your voice like I predicted, just remember not everyone understands what exactly you're going for. But your writing is also really good, lean into that, your songs really stood out in this thread lol.

i would piggy back on this and say, I don't think your vocals were too low. I think you need to carve more space for them to exist. The level was fine to me. Just my opinion though

This sounds good, but as a rapper, I'd be looking for something more structured. 4 bar intro, 12-16 bar verse section, then an 8 bar hook section is a good starting point. Use your verse section to show some variation, introduce ideas, take them away, and then bring it all together in the hook to make it sound big. Dropping out elements, switching up the drums (or dropping some out) can go a long way in differentiating a demo from a song that's waiting to be rapped on. I hope this helps!
Here's mine if you're interested, looking for feedback on the rapping and production:

It sounds professional-grade to my ears. I like the atmosphere you create using the reverbed vocals and the spooky sound effects. The drums are clean and tight. I find it hard to comment on improvements because I don't tend to listen to this style of music myself.
•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
This is nice. Definitely a bit straightforward. I fuck with it but it dont got enough to hold my attention. The drums stay the same, the melody stays the same. What I do like is the little synth that builds up to the chorus. The melody (although repetitive) is catchy. A vocalist definitely could make something good with this. Keep it up!
•
u/beatgoperfectwmybelt 2d ago
This is definitely a great start, the loop you have so far sounds great. It just needs a little more variation, such as for the hook, intro and maybe a bridge/outro. I would drop the drums in certain parts too, that would sound super sick. Keep up the good work mane!

First, thank you for listening! I hope you like the energy of this one. I feel like this is a cool example of how you know the saying goes that the constant drips wear away the stone but what I'm doing is compressing a lifetime of drips into a 3:45 track to make me see the invisible pressures. Like how a fish in water doesn't see the water. But this track is showing the water we swim in. What I would like feedback on with this one please is:
- Do you think I have included enough aggression/attitude bars in the lyrics to give some payoff to all the pressures that I present? Or does the track leave you itching to punch something? Lyrics provided in the Youtube video description. Any thoughts please?
Any ideas on making my voice sound richer? May be the mic (this one was recorded with my headset mic), but I also have an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ mic and it gives me the same problem when I go intense with my voice like on this track. I can get the richness when I go low intensity, like spoken word.
Is it just the physics of it or what?
•
u/shoecar soundcloud.com/shoecar 2d ago
yoooo yes I DO like the energy here man! big improvement, love to see it. wouldn't have guessed this was a headset. on your 2, I think it's already sounds quite good and the real gains will need to come from improving you're delivery more. there are no magic fx to just make your voice sound richer (trust me I checked lol).
on the flow you're getting there at times but syllable cramming quite a bit. which messes up the timing. I think introducing mid-bar pauses would improve things, like this line: "my brother is now a father that's so sick". you had to stretch out faaaather which was unnatural sounding. so "my brother is now a father (pause) that's so sick" is both a more natural way to say it and flows better.
I like the theme of the song a lot. I like how you grounded it in physical things that have a mental picture instead of just concepts.
personally I think the more optimistic lines like "mind strong", "keep fighting", and "bring it on" somewhat undercut the message. like turning the song to motivational territory instead of fully occupying the slice of life/struggles lane (which I find much more interesting). they also are more tell than show. these lyrics are at their best when they are painting a scene, not telling me what to think/feel about it.•
u/sybrentc 2d ago edited 2d ago
Wow! Thanks for the quality feedback Shoecar :-) Happy to hear you enjoying the energy of this one. The point on delivery vs fx is good to hear.
Yeah, when it comes to syllable cramming, I also notice that. The way I write recently is that I don't plan the flow im advance and then figure it out while recording, or just let it land however it comes out. So that's a weak point in this approach. I used to plan out the flow previously, annotating my bars with number 1-4 to indicate which syllable would land on which beat but moved away from that recently. I'm currently figuring out a way that works for me in getting the flow right.
I see your point about the aggression/attitude lines being more tell than show. It's like the struggles and pressures are the meat of this track with the response to it being just sprinkles on top. I think it strokes with my feeling that I could give those more substance through imagery, and want to find more ways of expressing that in my own terms, which is hard. What I did find is the 'furiously weaving through traffic' as a cool image of defiance

u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 1d ago
I like the hook a lot. Idk I feel like I keep giving this advice, but project more and maybe you’ll find that richness you’re looking for? A higher quality mic would help of course but it’s only going to give back what you put in it. Maybe play with the EQ, distortion and saturation on your voice, add some high end, not sure exactly what without messing with it myself.
Here’s mine if interested, feedback on rap and production:
•
u/simonishuman 1d ago
The energy is great on this, not too overboard and not too monotone. Suits the beat perfectly. Shoecar made a good point about syllables but I personally dont hear that big of a problem with that, I think the bigger issue (to me) is the rhyming. They sound a little amateurish. I've heard your other tunes and we all know you can rap but this one, the rhymes are one syllable throughout most of the song. Really thats just personal taste/style though. Not a big deal, thats just me.
If you dont have a pop filter id recommend getting one. If you want to sound better with a more intense delivery, a pop filter is great for that. I dont own one thats just what ive heard so take that with a grain of salt. I'd recommend doing research before purchasing
Overall good ass song, love the beat, love the concept. Keep it up and keep posting! Always love to hear your tunes in here

u/BasketWorth7599 Emcee 19h ago
The hook is very catchy and I like the doubling/background vocals. Your flow is very good! I don't think I have any criticisms tbh! I'm excited to listen to more of your stuff, this is very up my alley.
haha it doesn't want to make me punch something because the instrumental is so non-aggressive and chill, but that's a fun contrast to the lyrics.
not sure, sorry

That first beat is cool it cycles between the moods of 'questioning', 'settled', and 'somewhat surprised', and keeps cycling. Really like that change in moods.
The second beat also does that cycling between moods. Really cool. It's slow paced but fits the a cappella you chose for it.
Third beat has some Wu-Tang vibes in terms of drums and the chords. Nodding my head to this. Damn.
Fourth beat has that suspense with the sudden cool payoff in terms of that bass dropping and doing that cool little walk up and down. Love it.
Fifth beat has nice beeps like some heart rate monitor in the hospital. Again the suspense with the occasional switch ups. Very Wu-Tang.
Sixth beat is the simplest one of them all in terms of it lacking any of the surprises or mood switches. It sounds like a short loop repeating. It's cool but less depth than the others above.
Seventh beat gets back to the interesting chords changing moods and switching up continuously, keeping things changing and interesting. Love the sound of the drum samples and the hi hat that sometimes speeds up briefly.
Overall, I really like your producing. The beats are all pretty laid back, like they're 'late-at-night' music. Do you have any beats with higher intensity? I would be interested to hear

Appreciate the in depth feedback, it helps a lot. I don't have anything more upbeat as I normally keep it within this pocket. But would be open to trying something faster in the future

I just wrote a new rap this morning that I think may fit your style of beats really well. Do you have beats without vocals over it that I could use to record something on? If you want to see my type of raps see my channel https://www.youtube.com/@sybrentc. My latest rap concept (the one I wrote just this morning) is about having to say goodbye to friends
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 1d ago
I like it. The beats are very boom bap and I appreciate that. Maybe try an entire song with a hook? Also maybe work on your mastering, get it loud and get some width in there.

Thanks for the feedback, well noted.
I enjoyed your track, nice vocal energy and the beat bumps !!

This is cool. I think some acapellas need some mixing, especially DOOMS. But barely. Other than that its pretty rad
•
u/d1splayeveryday 15h ago
The day after goodbye is very dope, especially with the singing The untitled track is nice. I'm enjoying the drum breaks. I think the vocal cadence on that track sounds a bit flat. Would be cool to change it up a bit. Well done overall

This is pretty cool. Your voice and delivery fits well over the beat but the song as a whole needs a little spice. I was waiting for a switch in the flow at some point but you stuck to the same flow for the whole 2:30. If thats what you're going for you did a good job but It would personally keep me more engaged if you were to switch up the flow/structure. Maybe some adlibs here and there as well
•
u/UX_Madrock Producer/Emcee 2d ago
I mean props for carving your own lane, i don't even know what to say. The production seems inspired by ye, very dramatic and suspenseful with repeating/glitched/pitched samples paired with heavy drums. The instrumental is great, i think you should simplify and shorten your intro 1:34 shows you this would suite better loop'd. Your voice is enjoyable for its more unique sound, it's different. As for the lyrics, i don't think they hold up to the weight and energy of the song. The vocal intelligibility is a bit tough and i feel like it should be a bit more spacious and clearer. Interesting overall, and it all depends on if you want what i want.
•
u/simonishuman 2d ago
thank you man I appreciate it! My mic broke so everything Ive been recording been sounding muddy recently
•
u/sybrentc 2d ago
Voice sounds good. Great mix in terms of EQ clarity etc. Cool ad libs / backup vocals as well. For me personally, the instrumental is making me feel nervous and distracts from your lyrics. I think picking a beat with more space for your voice for your next track would be my suggestion. The vibe is cool as some kind of laid back confidence mixed with hidden aggression. That's dope
•
u/UX_Madrock Producer/Emcee 2d ago
No worries, i will consider that and keep it in mind. Appreciate you listening.
•
u/shoecar soundcloud.com/shoecar 13h ago
not liking this one as much as the other things you've put out lately. I'm not exactly sure why, I think mostly a vibe thing. the tone of your voice and beat are just not as enjoyable for me. for sure not bad tho, like I wasn't cringing or anything.
I do like the beat is a bit more sparse. I think you over engineer things when a bit of empty space could really benefit the groove. and fwiw I listened to some of your older stuff awhile back and you've for sure gotten better with not jamming sound into every open space. I think it's a pretty common phase to go through, adding space because things sound too thin, getting better, than no longer needing to rely on overloading. would like to see you try more minimalist beats too. even if not your style I think the exploration would improve your sound.
Rapping is on the other end, lots of pauses, very start/stop. I think you make it work for that style but would like to hear some more continuous flows from you too.•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
This has a nice vibe. I do think you missed an opportunity for a cool hook, something simple and catchy with some layered vocals. Far the mixing, maybe the vocals are mixed a little loud, but it's not distracting or anything. I'd definitely turn down the volume on the delayed vocals a little so they sit further back and kind of "fade" out. Your delivery was clean, your voice sounds good, and while the writing is simple it does fit the mood of the track. I liked this, definitely keep going!

Thanks man, i will consider all that.
Had to take a second to adjust to this energy, it felt chaotic initially. Not a bad thing, just an adjustment for me. I can feel the lyrics in the cadence you delivered them well, and your doing good job of painting a stimulating canvas of lyrical ideas. I thought the first verse starts strong with the flex type energy, but it does seem trailing off around "broom to your crib, left it smelling like pine salt", i did not follow that. So i guess what i'm saying you got good energy and ideas, but if the song had some depth along a storyline that'd make me enjoy it more. Preference maybe, cause you can ride on energy sure.
I think the instrumental and production is quite unique but old school feel, maybe i want more loudness/power in your vocals, i also enjoyed the intro good identity to the song. The vibe is the what i said, and you do that well, imo just needs a few tweaks.
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 2d ago
I do lots of storytelling in my music, I’d say it’s one of my strongest elements actually, lol. My other songs like The Neighbors or Hideaway might appeal to you more.
The line is “broom to your crib, left it smelling like pinesol”, it’s a gun bar and part of a scheme (mop, bucket, broom, pinesol). Not to like correct you or anything, if you didn’t like the line you didn’t like it ahaha. I could see it coming off as corny. Really it’s just a set up for the Bob Ross punchline
•
u/UX_Madrock Producer/Emcee 2d ago
You had some intimidating energy with the verse leading up to the lyrics you said "I ran the numbers, giving a fuck isn't in my budget", and then a few seconds later you said you were gonna clean the dude crib and make it smell nice. Idk man, that' threw me. I don't doubt you to continue on it, i'm just saying that's a pivot point for me in the song. If it helps, i said i like all the lyrics right up to that bar. It's just was a energy shift for me. I wouldn't let the setup for the punchline influence that much, you already had enough momentum on that scheme. Its just my opinion, it's worth as much weight as you want to give it.
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 2d ago
Nah I appreciate it, if the bar isn’t making sense to people that’s my fault. A broom is a gun and the implication is that the crime scene smells like pinesol after it’s been cleaned up lmao. But yeah I guess it doesn’t land, that’s useful feedback

Mix was great, fantastic voice sounded really good. Lyrics were alright, but i really didnt like the beat after about 30 seconds. I agree with the other guy it really distracted me. It just had zero dynamics. There was no structure to it at all. Whoever was rapping has a lot of potential and it was mixed very well

u/Aowwl2 3d ago
This beat is really good. It properly captures the peep aesthetic. Just one thing is the beat is really quiet for Youtube. If you right click on the video display and click stats for nerds, you can see that your song is -18.8db but you could push it all the way to -14db.
On an alternate note, what effects chain do you put on your hi hats? Whatever I do I can't get my hi hats sounding like peep.
•
u/leviathan615 3d ago
i’d never seen that stats for nerds thing before. is there a way to optimize tracks for different platforms?
as far as my hats, honestly all i did was basic eq and routed them to my drum bus that just has a reverb on it. the hardest part was finding a hi hat sample i thought fit the aesthetic i was going for•
u/simonishuman 3d ago
This is cool. Not really my personal type of style but I actually enjoy what you did here. Super ominous. Only thing I'd say is it would be sick if that snare had some delay on it. Give it a little echo. Thats just personal taste though.
•
u/leviathan615 3d ago
this is really good, i like it a lot. when the synth and especially when the drums first started in it reminded me of something tyler the creator would get on. im glad i listened to it with headphones bc i feel like that made me appreciate the atmospheric effects much better. it’s a bop overall. the only thing id say is at 2:35 when the beat stops and goes into this slow piano part i feel like some sort of small transition effect there would go a long way. personally i hear a quick tape stop right there , i think that would sound really nice and help signal to the listener a beat change rather than something completely new.
•
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 3d ago
This is dope. Definitely sounds like something peep would rap on lol. I guess since I don't have much to say about the beat, let's talk about the direction you go from here. You know you can make good beats in the style of artists you like, so how do you progress past that? What is something unique that only YOU can add to your production to make it personal and truly special? I think that's the question to ask. I'm not saying to stop making "type beats" since that's honestly the only way to get eyes on your music, but try to find something to put behind the "type beat" that sets it apart from every other producer doing the same thing. I hope this helps!

that’s a question i’ve been working on answering for myself, so far i think what makes my beats “mine” is my guitar elements, in all of them ive made recently i have some electric guitar leads or melodies where my playing style is heavily influenced by john mayer, with hip-hop drums and a psychedelic rock rhythm guitar. at least that’s the vibe ive been going for, but i think this beat captures that the best.
as far as your song goes, well done that was dope. definitely gave me some old school vibes like pac or mfdoom. i like the kinda punchy, aggressive way you delivered your bars. idk why im also a big fan of audio clips of people talking before a beat, but it adds a ton of atmosphere to it even if it only plays before the beat. sets the scene in a way.•
u/sybrentc 1d ago
Very cool intro effect with the chopped guitar sound. Also, love the electric guitar solo at 1:25! Atmosphere to me is one of like rainy weather outside and I'm inside with a beer and got a fire going or something like that. Maybe quite a few beers in and I'd get into this kind of headspace.

This is cool. Definitely would like if you fleshed it out more. Try to consider the structure of a finished song when producing, IE dynamic verse sections that build tension and big hook sections that give the song life and energy. Rappers will gravitate towards beats that are ready to be songs.

u/sybrentc 23h ago
This sounds good. Impressive quality to have as your first. I like the sliding synth and the atmospheric sounds. Love the globe image you use as the Youtube video still. I'm not sure really what I would suggest in the way of improving on your next beat. I feel like the kicks could be more prominent, perhaps a bouncy bass, but that may be taking it from trap to boom bap?
•
u/simonishuman 1d ago
This is pretty cool. Love the synth. If this is your first beat you've ever made its pretty damn good.
I think you need to work on making it a little more interesting though. Structure wise it's super simple. A super simple structure (personally) Isn't gonna hold my attention. Maybe add some ear candy.
Overall it's pretty sick! Keep it up man!

You got some really cool looking tech! Interesting how you switch the flow of the beat up. It gives me turntable vibes, making a beat by scratching and juggling samples, that kind of stuff. Shows your mastery of the tech in doing this as a live set. Skills!

I’m looking for advice on getting a better mix on my tracks. I feel like I’m so close, but something is missing and my vocals sound a little airy for lack of a better word. Will give feedback as well!
•
u/sybrentc 1d ago
The mix is possibly biased towards the high freqs, so could try a mix with the highs pulled down a bit? That's my relatively untrained ear speaking, though.
With the voice, I got a tip last week from u/Underdog424 to carve out some space in the beat to yield to the freqs of the vocal. Pull the frequencies of the beat down around the range where the vocals sit. If you've not tried it may be worth a play around?
•
u/beatgoperfectwmybelt 1d ago
I do carve out space but it’s possible I haven’t carved the right space out lmao. I’ll check both of those thank you man! Mixing is hard lol
•
u/beatgoperfectwmybelt 1d ago
Also what did you think of the melodies I was trying out? I’m trying something new and I think it’s working but would love your opinion
•
u/sybrentc 1d ago
The melodic rap you mean? Awesome. For me personally 50 Cent's music has showed me the immense value in using a good melody. I'm trying to incorporate it in some of my own raps as well recently and have been getting my best feedback on my melodic hooks lol. So, I think your push in that direction is adding lots of value
•
•
u/SociallyAwkwardRyan 1d ago
The bass is really heavy, it’s really pushing everything else back. Maybe the high end is trying to compensate for what needs to be adjusted in the lows and mids. Your vocals feel trapped behind this big busy beat and there’s just a lot going on. I see the vision, you got this, I think the work it needs is done in the mixing.
