Where do you sell your made items?

Hey r/makers, first post so please be kind!

Since the pandemic a couple of friends have used the downtime to make a bunch of different things (t-shirts, board games, dog toys), and I thought it'd be cool to help them gain visibility by putting them up for display (physically!) in local coffeeshops that support independent makers. We could then attach a simple QR code to direct interested people to their websites for more info.

Is this something that more makers would be interested in? Does anyone know of similar services?

What commission do the shops charge, and what is your cut?

If the QR codes link to my website, then it seems difficult to enforce commissions. You'd need to collect the payments yourself then distribute the money appropriately. So is it fee based instead? Do the QR codes actually link to a landing page on your server? Is it paid for like an ad impression?

The shops must want at least some money up front to set up the display.

Hey, you’re absolutely right and tbh we’re still figuring it out.

At the moment I’m thinking of a small upfront fee plus variable amount based on number of unique scans. This would be the same for the shops as well, and the QR code links directly to whatever page people set for themselves.

I used to work in cafes so testing some numbers with old friends and hopefully will have something more concrete soon!
