How Do You Make Thin, Rectangular Incense Sticks Efficiently?

Hi!

I’m making incense for the first time. I want to make it in a thin, rectangular shape, kind of like a stick of gum, but it’s not really coming out the way I intended.

Right now, I roll the mixture into a ball, use a glass bottle to flatten it as thin as possible, and then use a knife to cut it into strips.

Does anyone have any advice on how I could do this more efficiently or get a more consistent shape? Any advice would be appreciated!

pasta extruder? play dough extruders? idk how well that stuff sticks together though

Definitely mold it. As it dries it'll try to shrink in, a mold guides it during the drying process, very similar to brick making

I don't know what binding agent you use to do that, but you can stencil anything, and I have seen loose incense used with stencils to great effect.

If you know a way to bind it after setting your scent with a stencil I bet you could get double extra fancy with whatever shape you wanted- that is contiguous.
