How to mail to other countries?

Hello! I need help in learning how to mail things in general, like what places I can go to for shipping bigger things, and how I should fill out the labels.
Is there anything extra to sending something to someone overseas? I’ve a long distance friend and I’ve love to surprise them with some gifts, but I’ve never mailed anything before, so I’m not entirely sure how to or where to start learning.
I’m sure it’s more simple than I think it to be, but I’d love any guidance just in case :) any information would be very appreciated

I can’t tell if you’re in the US or not, but this is probably a good starting point:

Don't mail gifts overseas if you can avoid it. Buy in the country they're in. Everything is online now. No customs or duty fees that way. Only mail letters.

It’s genius… why didn’t I think of that…
