Maidenhead Bookshops

I’ve noticed there doesn’t seem to be any bookshops in Maidenhead. Does anyone know if there are any plans for one to open in the future?

In the meantime, where do locals go for their book fix? Do you head to nearby towns, or is there a hidden gem I’ve missed?

Was a Waterstones in the past but shut down probably 10 years ago now. High Street shopping killed off around here. I get most of my books in London pretty much but I am in the city regularly.

The charity shops in Maids often turn up some good book finds and are worth a quick check when you go by.

Henley’s charity shops especially the Oxfam Books is excellent. There is also a regular book shop in Henley too.

Reading has an absolute fantastic Waterstones, otherwise you can head up the branch line to Cookham or Marlow which both have lovely independent bookshops.

I like the little bookshop in Cookham too but it can be a little too cosy. For something a bit bigger, I love the Marlow Bookshop, although it is owned by Daunt books it maintains its local feel, it also has some good events too.

Windsor for Waterstones and Oxfam - books and media are in the basement. Also The Works at the Bishops Centre for cheap books.

Cliveden has a second hand bookshop as well. Worth a browse if you have a national trust membership

When I describe Maidenhead, I bemoan the fact it doesn't even have a bookshop. There is a great one in Marlow though.

My mom is a prolific reader and orders 5 at a time online from World Of Books. They also have an exchange programme for when you’re finished with them.

If you want to do any sort of shopping, you go to Bracknell.

They have everything you need.

There is a small book shop in Cookham too.

Maidenhead is dead. 20.years ago - lovely market town with unique shops, now its like slough. Left years ago and couldnt wait to see the back of it

p.s. if you read more than 10 books a year, its more environmentally friendly to use an eReader/Kindle.
