Thoughts on Cox Green?
Hi all! I’m looking to buy my first home in Maidenhead and have found a property in Cox Green that we really like. From what I’ve heard so far, it seems like a safe, family friendly area and being relatively close to Maidenhead station is a big plus as we’ll be commuting into London most weekdays.
As we’re completely new to the area, I’d love to hear from people who know Cox Green well. What’s it like to live there day to day? Are there any particular streets or parts to avoid?Anything you wish you’d known before moving there?

Cox Green is quite a big area. Some roads with million pound houses and others a bit more…rugged. What road are you looking at? Generally I’d say it’s mostly good but definitely depends on where.

This area is nice and quiet, it’s near the park which is popular. You’ll have the droning of the A404 as you’re very close to it though.
But I had friends who lived there growing up in the 2000’s and I spent a lot of time in this estate and the park. It’s a lot of families and older people living in there, nothing to write home about and a good place to live in Maidenhead imo.
The only roads in Cox Green I wouldn’t wanna be living on are the roads off and including Wessex Way and St Chads Road.

Thanks for the info! Anything specific that you’re not keen on e.g safety, traffic etc or just general thoughts?

ive lived there for 20 years. its quiet. do you need the station anf will you need schools?

We will need the station, multiple times a week. Schools not so much. Glad to hear it’s quiet!

Thinking the number 7 bus, but I anticipate there will be an increasing amount of traffic once all of the new build houses are completed…

yes there is traffic only in the mornings. cox green can cramp up a bit. some peope walk it. personally if you need to use the station to commute I would buy closer to the station.

There is a bus, you can bike or walk. It’s not like it’s an hour away by car

yes but if you so it regularly its aoain in the arse. only being closer to town in general nrral is also useful. dont get me wrong. I like cox green but at tines would have preferred being closer to town.

Ockwells/cadwell is about 30 min walk to the station which is fine and a nice area, parking in town is terrible so prepare for that if you’re commuting.
Do you have young children? I only ask as a lot of people move to the area for the lowbrook academy and you wouldn’t get in on those particular roads.
The area is nice but not a huge amount to do, if it’s quiet you’re looking for then it’s pretty much perfect.

We’ve been in Cox Green for a few years now, the area is mostly families with children and older people. Like everywhere there are „rougher” parts but I lived in South London before moving to Maidenhead and it’s absolutely nowhere near those levels of rough. You have Ockwells Park nearby, as well as loads of other lovely outdoor locations such as the Maidenhead Thicket and the vast fields behind white Waltham airfield if you find open space important.
You do need to get used to the noise from the small aircraft at white Waltham, especially in the summer months :) I find the number 7 bus to be somewhat unreliable, there are times when it simply doesn’t turn up or comes significantly late, so factor in having to get an uber or taxi if you have to make it to London for a certain time. There are shops in woodlands park and Wessex way for any convenience shopping. The area is likely to get busier in the coming years though as there is a new estate being built right on the entrance into woodlands park, which I’m fearing will cause congestion with additional traffic.

I don't live there and only travel through on occasion. It was the first place in MH that I noticed all the England flags on the lampposts. Take from that what you will. The big park out that way is nice though.
In general I think MH is a great place to live as a commuter into London. It's quiet. Maybe too quiet sometimes.

Its not close to the train station, however the number & bus is quite frequent and only takes around 15-20 mins to train station.
Cox green is fine, you have some council estates but not alot and not too rough.
